Accessories Iniu P55 Power Bank Mount.
Hey all, I’ve spent a couple of days fine tuning a battery mount for the Iniu P55 (slim one @ 18mm thick) power bank. At first I was making it in two parts but have now merged them and it has much better balance making the extra 180g battery as close to the Frame battery as possible. Also added some 2mm deep indents designed for 20mm heavy duty Velcro to sit in. Without Velcro everything push fits nicely but could fall off in active gaming sessions.
My mount is a remix of the v1 Steam Frame Battery Addon for the Anker Zolo MagSafe power bank by Yatyas on Makerworld, so thanks to him for providing the STEP files so I was easily able to remix this in Fusion.

Anyway I’m away until tomorrow but will upload the latest version to Makerworld by the weekend ✨

Please please PLEASE actually upload it I've seen too many threads where someone shows something cool and then doesn't actually post it anywhere! I'm still waiting for that dude's meta hand tracking on the frame lmao.

It looks nice and fun. But i don't understand the obsession of wanting to add the power bank to the headset directly, so much aditional weight aded to the head. I just put the power bank in my back pocket and pass the cable on the back through the shirt, very comfortable and easy.
Same for the steam deck, the sub readed is full of posts of different accessories and prints to add to the deck. Defeating the very purpose of portable handheld console....

Some people (me) really hate having cables running up their back, and wouldn’t mind a little bit of added weight to prevent having that lol

How much weight does this add to the back? Any noticeable heating of the Frame's battery now that it's covered by a power bank?

250g extra on the back.
The Frame front unit all in is about 350g and the rear including this is about 400g. For me personally it feels balanced and comfortable enough for continuous use.
Not noticed any heat issues, if that happens then I will add some kind of vent.

Im more interested in the custom ergo kit you got there, where's that from?

v4.01 from here:
https://makerworld.com/en/models/3392385-steam-frame-controller-ergo-grip-cover-trace-v2
with the bottom keys from here:
https://www.printables.com/model/1866349-steam-frame-ergonomics-kit-controller-key
along with some shitty 12mm Velcro as a stopgap until I can find some suitable 18mm nylon watch straps.
It’s pretty usable in its current form but the thin Velcro is a bit scratchy.

Sorry to be that annoying guy, but what’s the point? You got a battery? A cable? Just put the battery in the pocket or holster on your hip.

No it’s okay, it’s a fair question. Personally I don’t like the feeling of a cable trailing down my neck and I often spend nights dancing in VRChat wearing loose fitting clothing or less 😜
I’ve always used rear-mounted batteries on my headsets one way or another and it just works for me.

Okay this DEFINITELY confirms it for me, I'm never trying that "game", ever.

I understand you as well. But what about putting that cable inside your Tshirt, going down your back, into the pocket. The way the frame has the port in the back is perfect for this

its really annoying for some people, i've tried everything and it will always manage to tug on the headset or graze my neck/shoulders or some shit like that.

That shit will flap and flail around while playing VR, might be fine for chilling in VRChat but when you start moving? Blade and sorcery? Beatsaber? Thrill of the fight? With a 400g weight in your pocket? Nah man. And I ain't gonna wear tight clothes, or a belt, while playing VR. I wanna feel comfy.

Honestly, I thought like this for a second. Then I thought about A) the wallet, phone, keys, knife, and pen that I carry everyday and can not have in my pockets whole playing. And B) the backpack, holsters, clips, guns, etc my character is carrying. Really, if anything an extra something there should add to immersion. Maybe I should try carrying my backpack while I play? I'm already planning to build/print some gunstocks and a sword blade. Any advice in that arena would also be appreciated.

That shit will flap and flail around while playing VR,
Absolutely it doesn't. I've played hours and hours of active games like this already. You just need a cable that's the correct length, not too long not too short. For me 1,20m is perfect and 1,00m is doable.

so your solution is to add that weight to your *head*? thats like the worst spot lmao. Put the bank in your back pocket and run a properly sized cable up your back?

u/CpTKugelHagel 1 TB 9h ago
I regularly drive Motorcycles, my helmet weighs 1350g, so a 350g headset + 400g battery thats strapped firmly to my head is alot better than a loosely dangling battery flailing around while I beat up people in Blade & Sorcery in sweatpants.
Oh and adding the battery nearly equalizes the weight difference between front and back, wich also increases comfort.

Its a wireless device so why would you want to add wires to it?
2
u/Far-Interest2045 15h ago
The battery is a joke. Is the only way i can play 2hrs continuously in Asgard wrath2

That’s what annoyed me before I returned my 1tb, like I ended up using more wires than on my q3! The battery is in the back and is wired… and somehow it lasted less than my quest?
I retuned it and bought a q3 512gb to replace my 128 and bought an ayn Thor max.
I like most of steams hardware, but the frame just wasn’t the one for me.

I would rather the weight of a USBC cable, then the weight of a battery pack on my head.

u/mistamatrix 15h ago
Then don’t print this ✨

People are silly sometimes. Even if i may not use this specific print its a cool idea and i enjoy seeing things like these. Thanks for sharing OP!

Imagine all the pocket battery folks who's minds get blown away when valve releases the enthusist strap with a hot swap battery pack.

u/JoystuckGames Soon™ 12h ago
To be honest this is why i'm planning on doing the pocket battery rather than a more permanent solution. I don't own a 3d printer so I figure pocket battery will work until we have the enthusiast headstrap

Can't wait to carry 50000 kilograms on my head xD

Total weight is 750g, my Quest Pro with mounted powerbank weighed in at almost a kilogram and I daily drove that for 18 months. Helps to have a strong neck 😋

u/SupposablyAtTheZoo 1 TB 10h ago
What is wrong with a powerbank in your (back) pocket... Nobody wants all that extra weight on their head right?
1
u/pina_coladas 8h ago
Nice work, but put that shit on a top strap IMO. All that weight hanging way off the back SMH. Moment of inertia...

As neat as this is I don't really think this is a great solution. It'll make the headset off balance and back heavy.
In my opinion, the back mounted power bank solution is much better.

Is there a reason you went with the version one? Did you find it to be better or?

I thought this was the front of the headset 😅
