We have just shipped an updated Steam Client update to the Stable channel.

Home Screen

  • Added a new 'Big Art Mode' option for the home screen. This can be enabled in Settings > Home.
  • Added Personal Calendar to the Recommended tab on the home screen.

Screensavers

  • Added a new screensaver feature, accessible in Settings > Customization. There are two screensavers available:
    • The default is a game art slideshow that can be configured to show artwork from recently played games and your recent in-game screenshots.
    • A retro inspired bouncing logo screensaver
  • Custom screensavers are also supported. Similar to startup movies, they can be placed in directories at ~/.steam/root/config/uioverrides/screensavers/. You can use the bouncing logo screensaver (in the steamui/screensavers directory) as an example to get started.

General

  • Added notification about the current user when waking from sleep, if there have been multiple recent users. The notification can be activated to switch users and dismisses immediately on any other input. This notification can be toggled from the Notification Settings.
  • Added confirmation step to "exit VR" and "switch to desktop mode" power menu actions, and removed it from "sleep".
  • Added explicit warning text to power menu confirmation dialogs when proceeding will shut down an active game.
  • Added confirmation dialog/user switching ability when waking from sleep would require kicking an active session elsewhere.
  • Added "Default to Desktop Mode" toggle to System settings.
  • Added support for keyboard glyphs in the footer when using mouse/kb to interact with Big Picture Mode
  • Added delaying dimming the screen or displaying the screensaver when the Steam Store, web browsers or other apps request to disable monitor sleep and screensavers while playing video.
  • Added a setting to disable the screensaver when in game
  • Updated default artwork when an app does not have library or hero artwork.
  • Improved the layout of the QAM Voice Chat tab, added a mute toggle to the volume sliders, and fixed the link from the tab to the active chat to focus the textbox when opening to the chat window
  • Improved the text layout in achievement notifications when the name, description or both wrap across multiple lines.
  • Improved download speeds on high latency connections.
  • Reorganized the idle timer settings when on battery and AC power
  • Pressing the controller's system button will request the TV to switch to the Steam Machine as the active source (the connected TV must support HDMI CEC)
  • The 'System Report' dialog is now more responsive when displaying and uploading the gathered system report.
  • Windows binaries registered as non-steam games will now run in Proton by default.
  • Using a physical mouse to click on text input will no longer bring up the On-Screen Keyboard
  • When waking from sleep with a game running but the account now playing elsewhere:
    • Provide an option to exit the local game.
    • Go back to sleep if there is no input for 60 seconds.
  • The "Select compatibility tool" dropdown is now always visible.
    • The recommended compatibility tool, or steam runtime for native games, now shows at the top of the list as the "Default" option.
    • Compatibility tool aliases, e.g. "Proton Stable", can now be selected from this dropdown.
  • Fixed a case where Windows games would show as 'Not Compatible' in the library view until a manual Proton version was selected for this app.
  • Fixed "Suspend Download Throttle" not properly updating on the downloads page.
  • Fixed an issue where virtual gamepads were torn down temporarily when a game called the ISteamUtils::SetGameLauncherMode api, which could cause titles that don't support controller hotplugging to lose input
  • Fixed the on-screen keyboard not popping up in non-Steam games after toggling wifi or suspending the machine
  • Fixed the Recordings & Screenshots dialog not showing all games that have related screenshots in the game filter dropdown.
  • Fixed some cases of header/footer flicker and invisibility during the first seconds after waking from sleep.
  • Fixed issues with trackpad typing if the trackpad is touched while the onscreen keyboard is opening
  • Fixed the onscreen keyboard not working the first time it is invoked on desktop.
  • Fixed clicking the buttons in the footer causing the glyphs to change back to gamepad
  • Fixed a clicking the back button in the footer not working if nothing on the page had digital navigation focus
  • Fixed the Steam logo spinner moving during the login flow
  • Fixed a bug that sometimes caused an empty "Steam Family Activity" group to appear in notification settings
  • Fixed cases where users with older CPUs could have the client hang/crash when starting downloads for games with many identical files
  • Fixed desktop shortcuts always using the default launch option rather than your saved option
  • Fixed some cases where the onscreen keyboard would drop presses during dual trackpad typing
  • Fixed the diacritic options menu interactions during dual trackpad typing
  • Fixed a case where non-steam games would fail to launch after changing the Target binary via the Browse button.
  • Fixed a case where the 'Stop' button would fail to close the game if it was launched by an external tool.
  • Fixed a case where library playtime could temporarily show an incorrect value.
  • Fixed an issue where deleting an uploaded screenshot would only delete the local copy.
  • Fixed hovering DLCs not working in some places.

Desktop Mode

  • Fixed rendering the overlay and using other overlay related features (screenshots, game recording, etc.) in Vulkan games that create multiple windows.
  • Fixed crash when Vulkan games recreate their swapchain.
  • The SteamOS compatibility dialogs will now show when installing games not verified for that HW.
  • In the desktop overlay the desktop config will now be applied. For most gamepads this will not be a difference in behavior because they have a blank desktop config, but Steam Controllers or devices that have setup a custom desktop config will have mouse input to click on things in the overlay.

Game Recording

  • Fixed some cases where playback would jump to an unexpected point in the timeline when reaching the end of a play session or clip.

Steam Input

  • Added a new view in the configurator for Steam Input API games that lists out actions and their bindings rather than inputs to actions along with streamlined binding interface.
  • Added a new multi-binding page in the configurator for authoring button combinations that visualizes the timeline of command outputs and their settings.
  • Added information about which configurations are compatible in the configurator browser when using a game that requires Steam Input API.
  • Added the missing settings for adjusting emulated joystick adaptive centering on trackpad.
  • Added support for inverting button chord bindings.
  • Added support for the user-invoked On-Screen Keyboard in the desktop overlay.
  • Added a landing page to the configurator when no file on disk could be loaded and give you the option to select a new configuration. This was one of the causes of a blank configurator.
  • Improved CPU performance at runtime and in configuration loading.
  • Improved the consistency of trackpad sensitivity between Steam Deck and Steam Controller.
  • Implemented a version of the "Reorder Controller" dialog for Steam Input API games. Note - this disconnects the controllers temporarily so older games which do not handle hot plugging properly can lose controller input.
  • Switch to reshuffling gamepad input when the last running game exits instead of on game launch to avoid issues when running multiple apps at the same time.
  • Improve the display of cloud sync status in the configurator and give you the option to skip and proceed to the configurator. This was another common cause of a blank configuration because the layout was broken and the info offscreen.
  • By default, Steam Frame controllers will now use gamepad input in VR games that don't support VR inputs. The preferred mode can be changed for any VR game in either the game's Steam Input settings or in VR Controller settings on the Now Playing page. Please report any titles that do not work out of the box. Note: both Frame and the PC must be on the beta channel for Steam and SteamVR.
  • Fixed the controller support widget showing "This game doesn't support controllers" for unreleased games that don't have controller support information yet.
  • Fixed controllers not using the desktop configuration on the desktop UI login window.
  • Fixed older-unnamed Virtual Menus showing up as "Create Virtual Menu" in some views.
  • Fixed the glyphs shown for the Xbox Elite Controller paddle buttons.
  • Fixed cases where the Virtual menu modes could show the wrong activation type if it was created in the standalone menu vs from a controller source.
  • Fixed issues with button and slider sizing in the configurator when opened in the desktop overlay.
  • Fixed pairing the 2015 Steam Controller.
  • Fixed glyphs for Switch controllers in Heavy Rain.
  • Fixed a bug on the "Reorder controller" screen on Linux where sometimes swapping controllers would not work.

Remote Play

  • Added an experimental video codec, Pyrowave, which allows high bandwidth, low latency video streaming. You can find out more on the Steam Remote Play discussion group.
  • Greatly improved Vulkan capture performance.
  • Improved color accuracy, clarity, and brightness.
  • Automatically fall back to H.264 if HEVC isn't available.
  • Disabled HDR when streaming to the OLED Steam Deck.
  • A PIN is no longer required to download an app to a remote device. A PIN is still required to Install and Stream from a remote device.
  • Added a Download Complete notification for a remote download if you initiated the download on your current device.
  • Fixed EULA acceptance when starting a Remote Stream.
  • Fixed streaming launch failing if the host client had a cloud conflict.
  • Added a dialog to recover if your network isn't able to handle current streaming settings.

Steam Controller Firmware

  • Added a 2nd BLE pairing slot - to pair hold L1 + B + Steam when powering on the controller. To switch between slots hold either L1 + B + Steam at start up or R1 + B + Steam at start up.
  • Improved rumble emulation and added configurable intensity levels.
  • Improve the time needed to fully connect the device in Steam.
  • Fixed an issue where certain thumbsticks could lose the ability to reach full range.
  • Fixed an issue where some Bluetooth BLE connections could disconnect repeatedly, especially on Steam Deck.
  • Fixed an issue where pairing via a puck connection could fail.
  • Fixed an issue where switching to BLE mode would stick, even if the host device could not be found.

The screensavers got me.

I took a closeup screenshot of my uglyass character in Aion2 a few days ago, and just updated the deck this morning and took a shower.

When I got back and checked my SD, I found that fucking uglyass character staring at me in the eye (no, not my reflection).

6

u/dgellow 21h ago

FYI yesterday I had the screensaver start in the middle of a cinematic, because I wasn’t interacting with inputs while watching it. I’m on the beta channel

1

u/nabrok 2h ago

You can adjust the timeout or turn it off completely when a game is running.

1

u/Povelty_Norn 4h ago

Can't wait for someone to add the old 3d maze Screensaver.

0

u/cdoublejj 13h ago

wonder if that can be tied to Proton Calendar for Proton eMail users

u/Marauding_Llama 1TB OLED 1d ago

Big art mode is awesome, I use CSS loader to get a similar layout, so I can get rid of that.

126

u/Yourealosergetalife 1d ago

This is why I think valve deserves props they see most users using that plugin see that most users are using a big art like mode so implement it into the actual launcher itself.

Genuinely why the fuck can’t any other launcher do anything like this

59

u/ItsYukah 1d ago

shareholders

17

u/destroyermaker 1d ago

The cause of all life's problems

14

u/Yourealosergetalife 1d ago

I understand they have to turn a continuous profit what I don’t understand is why they don’t strive to be better and get customers in with a good product thus making more money.

I guess it’s like water, just moving to least resistance

21

u/nullhund 512GB 1d ago

short-termism.

shareholders of publicly traded companies are fickle and expect a company to deliver consistent year-over-year growth (if not quarterly), or else they'll trade for stock in another company who will.

privately held companies still have shareholders, who often have conflicting interests and interests which may not align with the consumer, but at least someone who chooses to invest privately is often more familiar with the company and willing to stick around and wait for long term strategies to work out.

4

u/NullPro 1d ago

Its a way easier to sell shares in a publicly traded company too, so this short-termism is inevitable. Why invest in the long term gains when you can invest in short term gains, sell, and buy a new short term gain stock?

And i just realized I basically just restated part of your comment

1

u/ballpein 12h ago

Most corporations aim for mediocrity.

12

u/rayquan36 1d ago

When Apple does this it’s derogatorily called Sherlocking

2

u/arnathor 512GB - Q3 22h ago

That was my exact thought on reading the comment as well.

2

u/russjr08 512GB OLED 17h ago

Isn't that usually in the case of paid software though (like Watson - the original "Sherlocking")? The bad PR they get is because they're effectively collapsing that developer's business

1

u/rayquan36 16h ago

Doesn't have to be paid software or collapsing a developer, just has to be third-party.

People have called Keychain and AirTags sherlocking too despite the original companies being huge and still doing great business.

u/TiSoBr Content Creator 19h ago

Valve is a company. There's no company goodwill.

7

u/trojangod 1d ago

The only downside and hopefully its a bug. But I cant use high contrast mode with big art. The background is just black :/

1

u/Terry____Mcginnis 6h ago

Wow thanks for mentioning this, I’ve been trying to figure out why the screen was black, now it’s fixed thanks mate.

1

u/trojangod 5h ago

No problem, hope it get fixed. I love high contrast mode.

3

u/laytblu 1d ago

Does it scrape images automatically like css?

1

u/mtnlol 19h ago

Based on the Hades 2 example image it shows the games banner minus the logo as the big art.

1

u/JustTheEngineer 14h ago

eh i thought I wouldn't needed CSS loader too but honestly big-art mode still covers significant portion of the art. I assume it's better for other devices running SteamOS but for the deck's screen, I still prefer art hero / mini carousel.

u/JunkHead1979 1d ago

"Added "Default to Desktop Mode" toggle to System settings."

Oooooh!

12

u/thwqwer 16h ago

And it's a lot faster to load. Nice!

3

u/57MCRY 13h ago

But how do I toggle it back? Do I need to boot into game mode to change it again?

3

u/JunkHead1979 13h ago

Possibly. I haven't even updated my SD yet.

2

u/aekam70 9h ago

„Back to Dock Mode“ from desktop and then toggle it back there.

1

u/ginger_450 9h ago

Looks like the toggle is also in Settings -> Interface in desktop mode.

2

u/Cardinal_Funky 13h ago

That’s awesome!

101

u/ZebracurtainZ 1d ago

Steam controller getting a 2nd Bluetooth slot is a nice add.

14

u/PigAntlers 23h ago

What does that mean? It can be paired to 2 devices simultaneously?

31

u/KataKataBijaksana 23h ago

You can have it configured to connect to your PC or your steam deck, and swap between the two with the button combination instead of having to go in and manually pair it in the Bluetooth settings whenever you want to swap which device you're using

12

u/HowDiddleDo 23h ago

This is such a nice to have, I have to disconnect the Xbox controller all the time and reconnect between Deck and PC

61

u/Bumppxd 1d ago

Why did they disable HDR when streaming to the OLED Steamdeck

52

u/WedNiatnuom 1d ago

Because it was causing issues in SDR games apparently. So rather than fix it they turned it off.

I just reverted from beta to get away from that change. I also felt that remote play performance in general was much worse on the beta branch. I was getting constant green flashes and dropped frames. My latencies were also double what I was getting after reverting back to stable. If you’re a remote play user you may want to avoid this update and wait for the next.

11

u/sunderlolo "Not available in your country" 1d ago

It didn't properly work with HDR games for me, no pure blacks, and colors kinda washed out. Had to switch back to moonlight again...

4

u/whatiwritestays 1d ago

Did you use steam remote play or sunshine > moonlight?

8

u/WedNiatnuom 1d ago

I use both, but I was specifically speaking of remote play in that reply.

I prefer remote play because my controller configs are all set and I don’t have to swap them around if I change games. It’s been running nearly perfectly up until the last few updates on the beta branch.

3

u/holdit 1d ago

I assume they are talking about Steam Remote Play

3

u/TiSoBr Content Creator 19h ago

Don't bother with Remote Play, start using Sunshine instead.

5

u/Tulioja 18h ago

Or even better, the Apollo fork of it with great additional settings for virtual display configurations.

82

u/MQZON 1d ago

I feel crazy seeing all the comment here panning this. This change list is awesome. Lots of great qol improvements.

11

u/JohnnySmithe81 17h ago

I feel crazy seeing all the comment here panning this.

Who are you talking about? The only non-positive comments I can see that are about the same age as yours are asking questions about the update.

Why does every thread have a comment like this when there's 1-2 negative comments in a thread full of positive comments?

0

u/MQZON 12h ago

At the time there were about 10 comments and more than half were negative. I guess I made an overgeneralization!

12

u/Jman1a 1d ago

People now have a deep desire to hate on everything and anything now. “You like a thing?!? What a looser you are!!! “

5

u/TacticalGazelle 19h ago

"This sucks actually" (coolest thing ever)

24

u/DUitEZy 1d ago

I would really appreciate a way to turn the volume of the start up videos down. Some of them are just crazy loud.

6

u/nickorama23 16h ago

Or mute entirely regardless of what the volume was on last shutdown

1

u/DUitEZy 7h ago

Would love that. Sometimes whether it’s big picture mode or my steam deck, it’s a jump scare

8

u/McNamoo 1TB OLED 1d ago

This update fixed an issue I had with the friends tab on the home screen not displaying anything because of some conflict with the SteamGridDB decky plugin - so that's nice.

The ProtonDB badges plugin is causing decky to crash with this update at the moment though, so disable that one if you have it and are getting the error screen.

3

u/ask_compu 1TB OLED 17h ago

the protondb badges plugin has been updated and is now fixed

1

u/TehCrazyCat "Not available in your country" 1d ago

So Decky works fine, it's just some plugins that die? I don't want to turn on my SD just for it to die lmao

2

u/jpjaques 1d ago

This is your heads up to disable these on decky before running the OS update.

7

u/TehCrazyCat "Not available in your country" 1d ago

Oh no I've already updated the OS I just didn't want it to break with the client update

But yeah, only one plugin seems affected, everything fine 👍

1

u/jpjaques 1d ago

Stoked to hear! Just wanted to make sure :) cheers!

23

u/Such_Introduction592 1d ago

I hope they are already aware about the "Slow Charger" message that always pops up even the official charger is plugged in.

A very minor bug, in my opinion, but I'm sure that a lot of users will be very happy if they finally fixed it.

7

u/Mikkelet 23h ago

I wonder if that's because the code reads the current input power, which varies depending on need, instead of the reported capability of the power source

2

u/ask_compu 1TB OLED 17h ago

it's a problem caused by the steamgriddb plugin, disable it and reboot and the problem goes away

2

u/Romar-io 7h ago

I have no plugins at all and ever since the previous update I have had this issue and it's literally messed up the charging for real

1

u/ask_compu 1TB OLED 1h ago

if it's affecting actual charging speeds then it's a charger issue, decky cannot assume direct control over the charge controller, i'm guessing the steam deck's light turns yellow and this happens even when completely powered off? cuz with the decky issue the light never turns yellow, it's just accidentally triggering the slow charge notification ui code when it shouldn't be

2

u/Ironchar 22h ago

did they fix this?

is it a decky issue?

5

u/UnacceptableUse 256GB - Q2 18h ago

This sort of thing is one if the reasons why most companies don't allow plugins like this. People misattribute the poor experience to the official software and there's nothing they can do about it

2

u/ShilunZ 18h ago

I thought my battery or charge port was losing it when I saw that message

2

u/Romar-io 7h ago

I made a forum post about it in the bug reports, but no one else responded so I guess they just didn't think it was an actual issue

1

u/sxmu 19h ago

Not minor because now my deck is stuck on low charge mode. It takes 14 hours to fully charge up, and many else have this problem right now. Bug came after last update before this. Battery is 99% intact.

-6

u/gamerrominc 1d ago

Yeah I highly doubt it's a decky bug because just odf

5

u/Jdogg4289 1TB OLED 1d ago

it is confirmed to be a bug with the most recent version of the steamgridDB plugin for Decky loader. If you roll back to the previous version of it or disable the plugin the slow charger notification stops. It's also causing some weird CPU spikes as well.

6

u/Gabakon 1TB OLED Limited Edition 23h ago

I don't have Decky installed, use the official charger and I occasionally get that notification. It's not related.

3

u/sxmu 19h ago

Yeah same I dont have decky but still have this Bug

1

u/ask_compu 1TB OLED 17h ago

did u have it installed at one point? did u reboot after uninstalling it?

2

u/Mattchilla 1TB OLED Limited Edition 17h ago

Never had it installed and I have the same bug. My steam deck is stock

1

u/ask_compu 1TB OLED 17h ago

i'm thinking that's not the same bug and is actually a charger issue in that case

7

u/Spectre-4 LCD-4-LIFE 1d ago

The Big Art mode was something I was looking forward to. Glad it got added to the Stable channel.

32

u/Autumm_550 1d ago

When can we get “download all” button

8

u/hakur0 19h ago

If I had to guess, Valve won’t ever implement this because some people would keep updating everything just for the sake of it, not because they’re playing all of their games, which raises Valve’s bandwidth costs. But it would be so useful to update everything on the steam deck before going offline, it makes me sad that they don’t do so.

4

u/sBarb82 64GB - Q2 22h ago

Or a queue, so that I can mark what I want downloaded after the current download finishes

3

u/KnifeFed 22h ago

If you have Decky Loader, there's the decky-download-all plugin.

0

u/Autumm_550 21h ago

I don’t really trust 3rd party plug ins they always mess something up

-4

u/TiSoBr Content Creator 19h ago

Right? We've been asking for this since day 1. Valve slowly becoming the Apple of pc gaming.

6

u/MrHCow 22h ago

Finally some fixes for the on-screen keyboard. Man this thing had issues. Would be nice if we could further change the layout. Maybe split view or smaller versions. Well at least It hopefully works as intended now.

3

u/Swizzy88 15h ago

Yeah the keyboard has been neglected for a long time. No options to resize, sometimes the touchpad inputs simply dont work so i have to close the keyboard and reopen and a bunch of other issues. Good to see they haven't completely forgotten the keyboard.

2

u/ask_compu 1TB OLED 17h ago

seems to have fixed the issues when using it in game mode in non steam games (ie the browser) and it wouldn't pop up with steam + x but would make the sound for it popping up, it now seems to always pop up when steam + x is pressed, i wonder if this also fixed the direct button trigger used in the web browser input template

1

u/Romar-io 7h ago

I feel it should behave just like an android keyboard and be resizeable, If I could get it in the corner like a floating android keyboard, I could probably type crazy fast with 1 thumb

22

u/jack-of-some E502 L3 1d ago

"Using a physical mouse to click on text input will no longer bring up the On-Screen Keyboard"

Ok but what if I don't have a physical keyboard connected?

18

u/PersonalityNo8280 1TB OLED 1d ago

Not asking this sarcastically, but what game would you ever be playing with an external mouse, a textbox, but no physical keyboard?

14

u/jack-of-some E502 L3 1d ago

Almost never a game but rather tinkering.

4

u/AtlantaAU 1d ago

Something like Slay the Spire where you essentially never use a keyboard outside of creating a name for your save file? It's quite rare though

-4

u/Klynn7 1d ago

You plug a mouse in for STS?

2

u/AtlantaAU 1d ago

If I'm playing at a desk or table, yes. It's certainly not required being a turn based game, but I'm much faster using a mouse

1

u/really_random_user 20h ago

Mini motorways

9

u/SScorpio 1d ago

Steam + X opens the keyboard.

2

u/rei_churros 1d ago

You can open the screen keyboard with the shortcut (Steam + X) (or just X on desktop mode)
Worst than automatically opening like with no physical mouse for sure, but still possible

4

u/BedrockBen101 512GB OLED 23h ago

Best part for me is that the "you connected a slow charger" bug got fixed

5

u/hungarianhc 23h ago

PYROWAVE!

7

u/Kazko25 1d ago

Holy shit. We finally get default to desktop mode.

9

u/HorizonShadow 1d ago

The steam controller button switching the tv input makes remote play while someone else is using the TV useless.

Thought it was a bug

2

u/martinw89 16h ago

It’s how pretty much every HDMI CEC device normally operates so this brings Deck in line with the norm. If you don’t want steam deck to use CEC, it’s an option in the display settings

2

u/MEchoPark 9h ago

Yeah they screwed this up. When streaming on moonlight if I hold the select button of the steam deck to access the steam menu on the host (steam machine) it switches on the TV

1

u/IceSentry 10h ago

I'm confused what you were expecting to happen? If your deck is plugged in a tv and you press the button on you steam controller what did you want to happen?

1

u/HorizonShadow 10h ago

If you're playing remote play, and someone else is using the tv, and you press the steam button on your remote device, it switches the tv input.

1

u/IceSentry 10h ago

That should only happen if the deck is plugged in the tv though? Are you just playing with the deck plugged in but in your hand?

3

u/Supertartory 23h ago

I'm excited to see all the custom screensavers in similar veins to SteamGridDB. I will definitely be using that. I think it would also be nice to be able to enable screensavers for games that have inbuilt ones (such as the older popcap games and some idle games)

3

u/Areinu 512GB - Q3 21h ago

Everyone happy about screensavers, meanwhile me dancing over "Added confirmation dialog/user switching ability when waking from sleep would require kicking an active session elsewhere"

9

u/CUDesu 1d ago

Big art mode is great for those that don't use deckyloader/CSS loader. Never liked the default home screen.. but I've customised mine now plenty anyway so not a feature I will use but good to see in any case.

5

u/redditman181 1d ago

Nothing that great for me but nice quailty of life features i tried the big art mode and didnt like it that much imagine if had the deck docked but as it is it doesnt look right to me i dont like the game icons shifted down but thats just me.

2

u/MultiKoopa2 512GB OLED 22h ago

uh, sorry, how do you change the default compatibility tool now? The option for this is now just being ignored?

2

u/Qurety 16h ago

Is it just me or remote play got a bit worse?

Sometines it wint even lunch the game

2

u/_mafumafu 1d ago

If I use the Big Art feature, can I still customise my desired personalised artwork for game that I want?

2

u/KawaXIV 1d ago

yes, it uses that art if you do.

2

u/_mafumafu 1d ago

Sweet! Now I can ditch the CSS loader then!

2

u/Rytom_ 1d ago

There's something wrong with my deck the option for big art mode simply doesn't show up. I tried the beta client, it didn't show up. I tried this update as well, still don't show up. What the ??? And no, I have no weird css decky installed...

1

u/ask_compu 1TB OLED 17h ago

it's in settings in the "home" tab

0

u/Rytom_ 16h ago

It's supposed to be there. I had to reinstall steam to make it show up for some reason

1

u/ask_compu 1TB OLED 16h ago

reinstall steam? on a steam deck?

What I want is for the Screen Recording Feature to have a "Upload to YouTube" Option

1

u/phoenixus21 15h ago

So this says it added pyrowave, but I can't enable it on my deck. It's there, but the toggle isn't changeable. Is that because I'm not on the beta branch?

W update fosho

u/Plastic_Biscotti_736 9h ago

Is it just me or is none of these features are on my steam deck after updating?!

How to enable PyroWave?

u/MultiKoopa2 512GB OLED 38m ago

how do you disable screensaver completely in the new update?

1

u/Ill_Study143 15h ago

It clashes with dekyloder...

u/Vectrex452 512GB OLED 3h ago

Most big updates do. You'll just have to wait for an update to Decky Loader.

Okay, I guess?

And now they broke external audio support via HDMI when the Steam Deck is docked, at least on my TV. Also, VRR still doesn’t work with displays like the Samsung S85F (VRR work on my computer monitor, but it doesn’t on my TV). 😕

Weird enough, VRR works on desktop mode for my TV lol

lots of issues with decky plugins on this update. SteamgridDB, ProtonDB Badges, and HLTB for deck are all causing problems. If you are having issues just disable these plugins for now.

Speaking confidently when you’re wrong is wild.

I rarely use my deck. losing almost 100% of battery in a few weeks is insane, no other device behaves like that

11

u/doormat_destroyer 1d ago

In sleep mode? My switch will behave the same way. Turn it off if you aren’t going to use it for that long

-5

u/Acrobatic-Monitor516 1d ago

I have turned it off !

1

u/doormat_destroyer 1d ago

Could just be a battery issue

-6

u/archon810 1d ago

Yeah, they definitely need some sort of a deep sleep mode because any time I pick up my Deck after a week or two, it's dead.

5

u/Eugene-V-Debs 1TB OLED 1d ago

You mean powering it off? Like any other computer with a battery?

0

u/archon810 23h ago

No, kind of like hibernation on a PC, which is faster than booting up from scratch but slower than waking up from sleep.

Or just a more efficient sleep.

1

u/Eugene-V-Debs 1TB OLED 4h ago

If you're needing it off for weeks, power it off. It's not hard.

1

u/archon810 8m ago

I don't know every time I put it down whether I'm going to want to play it later that day, the next day, the next week, or the next month.

so i'm not alone. disabling quick boot in the BIOS didn't really help

1

u/xkero 1TB OLED 1d ago

Typically quick boot options in most BIOSs are just to skip certain checks and boot compatibility stuff when booting to speed it up, so they have nothing to do with the battery or power saving.

Reinstalled windows 11 . Too many bugs with steam os . Every now and then . Better just go back to windows 11 for stability lmao

4

u/shung1209 1d ago

windows 11 is far away from stability

-5

u/True-Adhesiveness290 1d ago

Well at least it works well for me . Steam os quick access menu during games always stuck and freeze

0

u/shung1209 22h ago

i never had anything working well on windows 11

3

u/richajf 1TB OLED Limited Edition 23h ago

Seriously? Windows is more stable? How so?

Here I am with an Xbox Ally X that I've installed SteamOS on because Windows is a garbage OS for handhelds. My XAX is much more stable and has far fewer problems on SteamOS compared to Windows. To each their own, I guess.

(I also have an LE Steam Deck OLED. Everyone, please don't lynch me for mentioning an Ally in this subreddit, lol)

Idk I’m using the Xbox experience mode. Seems fine for me .
