Support Help with pairing to a puck and a steam machine
Help me please, advice or solutions or anything would be great.
I recently got my Steam Machine, and an advertised function of the Steam Controller is to have 2 connections to different pucks saved on the controller, so you can swap between the two devices. With the Steam Machine having an internal puck I don't see why I can't swap between my Steam Machine and the standalone puck attached to my personal PC.
I am fully aware of the guide on the FAQ to swap pairing modes. But whenever I attempt to pair my controller to a second device it will ALWAYS override the other device.
As far as I can tell, I am to power on the controller holding the following combination of buttons for the corresponding slot to enter pairing mode for either slot.
R1 + A + Steam = Slot 1
L1 + A + Steam = Slot 2
I have ensured no connection to the controller is saved on the PC's puck and the Steam Machine's internal puck. I have ensured that no connection to either is saved on the Steam Controller. And when I attempt to start the controller in Slot 2 and save to either device, it will always save to Slot 1.
When I have one device saved to Slot 1 on the controller, turn off the controller, boot into Slot 2 (I can tell it's in Slot 2 because it makes a different sounding chime) and pair to the 2nd device, it will override Slot 1 regardless.
I have had a ticket open with steam about this for over a week and I'm bummed I haven't had any support or help. My friend has his controller paired to his Steam Machine and his PC's puck with no issue and I am struggling to realize what I'm doing wrong.
I realize I can just tough it out and keep pairing the controller to the device I want to use but it sure is annoying just knowing that I should be able to swap the connection with a couple additional button presses.

Try updating the steam controller on your primary PC and ignore the update the Steam Machine tries to make you do to the controller. First pair your controller to your PC puck.
Then turn off the controller and hold L1 + A + Steam to enter Slot 2 and connect it to the Steam Machine and go through the pairing process while ignoring controller update prompts.
Hopefully that leads Slot 1 being dedicated to the PC and Slot 2 to the Steam Machine.

I'm having the same issue. I've tried forcing an update to the controller and pucks, fully closing steam between pairings, etc.
