Steam Controller (2026) they added a different scream sound when you drop the controller

I'm not sure which firmware version they added this in but there's like a 50% chance of hearing a cat screaming sound instead of the wilhelm scream.

Just dropped my controller like a million times and every time got Wilhelm or nothing. Just did an update check and on current version.

Is this a beta channel thing?

Its got to be from above a metre (3 feet for stupid people) and you need to be in big picture

It’s worked for me numerous times outside of BPM, idk why people keep saying it has to be in that mode

idk man it just doesn't work for me. Never has. I'm convinced it's a troll.

Is there a third one when you actually drop and break it, the sound of your own scream 😮 I'm in Beta branch, do a careful drop test 😛

I have never even heard the Wilhelm scream from my controller yet, and now there's another?

it will take a few (or like a dozen) tries for it to make the sound. it doesn't matter which state the controller is in as long as it's turned on (except for bootloader mode)

the most consistent way to get it for me is to toss it up into the air (about 2-3 feet) but make sure it lands on a bed or other similar surface so that it registers but doesn't break your controller when it lands

you need to be in big picture mode (or i guess on a steam machine), the controller must be connected and wait through a 60 second cooldown, then it is eligible to play the sound upon drop. however, even now there is only a 20% chance the sound will play. when it does, the controller goes back on cooldown for 60 seconds

Really not a cat maniac here, so I'd rather just have the scream..

this is very easily remedied by just not dropping your controller

Like, an actual cat, or like Tom from Tom and Jerry?

Now we're going to see another rash of broken triggers from drops.

Some what related to your post, I remember on the 2015 Steam Controller, you can customize the startup sound (I used the TF2 sound setting).

Is it possible to change the startup sound on the 2026 Steam Controller?

More people care about a silly sound a controller makes than have ever or will ever care about you or a single thing you've ever said or done.
