Even if I was to be using epic

... Why should I care about 5 seconds faster launch? Think I wouldn't be turning my laptop off if I was that addicted

I hate this subreddit... Regardless of your opinions on Steam or EGS, one of the principal complaints this subreddit has always had and constantly brings up about EGS is that the launcher is too slow.

Now that Epic makes moves to try and fix it, suddenly everyone goes "who cares". Even if it is only one of numerous problems it's still a step in the right direction and yet it's met derision.

Ya'll just love to fucking complain

Man I'm so glad this image became a thing cuz instead of saying what the image is showing yourself, you can just say "Goomba fallacy".

Honestly I'm glad they spend up their platform. Epic isn't that epic, but it's not GOG.

It's less an issue with them improving and more of an issue with them trying to always act like they're better. An actual better product doesn't need to say it, it is self evident. Insulting your competition is a guaranteed way to admit that you suck.

No EGS is slow in general, opening up the store page, a game page or anything it's slow, steam switch between store and your game library under a second, we are complaining about they are thinking a 5 second start up matters when it doesn't when the launcher is still ass

Unironically right, I dislike egs but let them do good idc, if anything it may make steam even better (though to me i’m happy with steam as is anyway)

I think it’s weird that people take this almost personal lmao

That was literally the marketing YouTubers were using to promote SSDs when they started coming out. The speed it took to load your PC from cold start to home screen. You might think it's silly, but it's effective strategy

Think it might be silly to compare it to SSDs. The gains in switching from an HDD to an SSD are massive, and affect everything. This is a nice jump, but kind of meaningless unless you keep reopening launchers for some reason.

Sure but for me at the time that went from "turn on PC go make a coffee" to "stare at screen for few minutes"

I don’t think the comparison is the same. Computer boot up times went from minutes to seconds. Here we are talking about an application taking 10 seconds vs 5 seconds. And it’s an application people generally just leave running so you won’t experience this time very often.

I feel like this is not a fair comparison.

Ssd are way faster and not only on boot, they are on every operation you make on the disk.

An ssd is on average 5x to 80x gaster than a 7200 rpm hdd (which is already higher end than most) and you can definitely feel the difference, expecially with games that need to onload and offload good chunks of data quite often

That’s completely different, ssd changed starting my pc to having my applications open from 20 minutes (I had a low end hdd tbf) to 1 minute

Well, the differences there can be large
