How do you keep allergens in rotation after the first try with your baby?
Full transparency, I’m on the team at Ready. Set. Food! but genuinely curious about this one. We hear from a lot of parents that the first peanut or egg exposure feels like the big milestone, and then keeping it going a few times a week is where things fall apart. Baby refuses eggs, you forget, life happens.
What’s actually worked for you? Rotating meals, a weekly schedule, sneaking peanut butter into oatmeal? Would love to hear real routines.

Baby not eating enough
I have a 8.5 EBF sweet baby girl. We started her on solids around 5.5 months old.
She never really liked anything we gave her, and I tried many things (purees, mashed food, finger food). I also tried feeding her, letting her eat alone, eating together with her - nothing. She won’t take more than a few bites. I also tried to feed her at different timings - right after nursing, right after waking up, 1-3 hours after nursing, nothing.
I don’t know if it’s related but right around the time she turned 7 months or so we diagnosed an FPIES to eggs, which is basically an allergy of the stomach to food that causes babies to projectile vomit few hours after they ate the trigger food. I think it affected her and us, and we also stopped solids for a few days because of it and continued carefully.
She also doesn’t take a bottle and is in day care, so she basically barely eats almost all day and I’m scared it’s hurting her (of course she nurses before and after day care).
Should I be worried? I’m trying not to but I hear of other babies eating and enjoying it and all she does is take a few bites, make faces and then just nod her head and not open her mouth.
When we eat she looks really interested, so I’m not sure what is the problem.
Anyone else had a baby that it took him more time to really hit it off? Should I contact a dietitian or a doctor? Thanks 🙏🏼

does baby actually get hungry for solids? or hungry if they don’t have a meal?
first time mom to a 9 month old looking for some reassurance.
starting solids has been overwhelming & fun all at the same time. my little guy didn’t want to do purees for anything past the first month basically. he essentially started refusing. but as soon as i gave him the freedom to feed himself he was all over it again.
now, i shoot for 3 meals a day of solids & 2 snacks. sometimes we only get 2 meals, sometimes 1, very rarely none.
my mom kinda has me feeling guilty. i know that’s not her goal, but she says things like “honey he’s probably hungry for food” & im just wondering if that’s really the case? he gets consistent breastmilk through nursing.
i know that my milk is still his main source of nutrition. i think im just letting her get to me lol. it will literally be 1.5 hrs since he last breastfed & he will be clearly asking for boob & that’s when she makes a comment.

Starting solids
Hiii ! My baby has been on purees for about 2mo now and he is going on 8mo this month. He has been getting cereal in his milk since 6wks per his ped for his acid reflux. I’m looking for some advice on starting REAL FOOD. Like eggs, avocados, ect but I am TERRIFIED of potential choking. I watch him like a hawk when I let him try some of our food off our plates. He doesn’t feed himself yet because he quite literally shoves the spoon to the back of his throat lol. Idk I guess I’m just looking for some tips and tricks that worked for some of you guys. I want to work on him feeding himself more and ofc starting regular food.

Starting solids
Hi! My son just turned 4 months old and has great head control, and his pediatrician said that we can begin starting solids. We put him his high chair just to see how he was in it, and he seems stable. Where should we even begin? It feels overwhelming lol!

What is realistic for my 7 month old?
Hi all! My little bean started purées at around 5.5 months, and we introduced some BLW around 6.5 months. I’d say we’re still doing a combination of both. He was doing great initially! He would take the spoon from us, bring it to his mouth, and get some pretty good bites that way. I think where we may have gone wrong was not getting him used to taking bites of food directly from us. Now he refuses to let us feed him, which also means he barely eats any of the food we send to daycare. Mealtimes have become such a struggle now because he’ll very rarely take a bite of anything. He LOVES crunchy sticks, wafers, and puffs, but I’m trying not to offer those at every meal. Unfortunately, those are pretty much the only things he’ll consistently eat right now.
We have noticed that he seems much more motivated to eat when we place little pieces of food in front of him and let him pick them up and feed himself.
I just want to make eating a positive experience for him and help encourage him to be a good eater! Any and all advice would be great!

2 months into BLW and I’m already looking for a better high chair
I’m currently deep in the trenches of baby-led weaning with my 7month old, and so far it’s been a mix of excitement and total chaos. My little one loves grabbing and exploring food, but my kitchen is starting to look a bit messy.
I’ve been looking at high chairs since ours just isn’t working that well. The seat feels a little cramped now, and once she starts dropping food everywhere, cleaning around all the little gaps is such a pain. I really want something that’s comfortable for the baby but also easy enough to clean without spending forever scrubbing after every meal.
I’ve looked at the Stokke Tripp Trapp, Abiie Beyond, Mockingbird, and Momcozy. The biggest thing for me is cleaning. My baby seems to think food needs to go everywhere except her mouth, so I’m wondering how easy the tray is to clean after things like tomato sauce or oatmeal. Does it actually wipe down easily, or do you end up taking the whole thing apart after every meal?
I’m a little concerned about stability too. She is constantly moving around, reaching for things and trying to lean forward, so I don’t want a chair that feels wobbly. I’d love to hear from people who have used it for a few months rather than someone who just unboxed it. I’m also trying to figure out whether it stays comfortable as the baby grows. The footrest and harness seem fine from what I’ve seen, but pictures only tell you so much.
Has anyone here actually used any of these? How has it held up with messy BLW meals? I’m still comparing a few options, so honest opinions would really help.

Baby suddenly reject solids and I’m at my wits end.
- So my baby has been eating SUPER well from 6 months to 11 months old. He eats literally everything I gave him
- Out of a sudden at 11th month mark, he rejected all solids. He would turn away when I feed him. BLW doesn’t work too.
- It’s been a whole month already and I highly doubt it’s teething
- I’ve made sure his last milk time is 2-3 hours ago and it’s all spaced out
Any fellow mummies gone through this before and how long did this phase last for you?
This is so incredibly frustrating that every meal time is a battle that I cooked and had to throw everything away + he’s not eating.
Send help😭

Baby refuses to eat anytime other than the evening.
Baby is almost 8 months and is starting to eat solids well in the evening, but refuses to eat any other time of the day. I’m trying to get him up to two solid meals a day. It was a struggle to introduce common allergens because of this too. Is this normal?

When did you transition from purée to BLW?
My little one is 8.5 months old and goes to daycare. All babies even a 6mo, do BLW. Mine started showing interest in feeding himself by grabbing spoon when we were feeding him and refusing being fed, so we decided to do BLW for breakfast and lunch and purées for dinner. However his daycare teacher asked us to start sending some purées again too since he only takes a small bite and then drops food after that, and she wanted him to really eat something. (Which it can assume she observed that he is eating much less than other babies)
I understand food before 1 is just for fun, and milk is the main source of nutrition, however after starting solids, he doesn’t take anymore than 24 oz of milk and if he doesn’t enough solids, he cries because he is hungry and at the same time he refuses milk.
So far we keep trying offering purées and mixing with yogurt (his favorite), so he accept being spoon fed, but I wanted to know if you have any advice and when you transitioned to BLW and baby ate a good amount of solids.

Foods to start with for 6m old with reflux?!
My daughter is 29w & we are planning to start her on solids soon. I was wondering if there is any recommended food item to begin with for a baby with a history of reflux?! She was on Famotidine from month 4 & it has significantly improved her reflux. She still is a bit of spitter though. I just wanna make sure she I start something that’s mild on her stomach & doesn’t disrupt her poop schedule lol. TIA.

Need some hopeful advice that this won’t last forever
Okay so we started purées around 6m and quickly moved into more BLW baby was doing great exploring lots interested in eating anything and everything!!
Now she’s almost 8m old and has completely stopped! 5 days ago she had a stomach bug and couldn’t keep anything in her belly threw up at every nursing session. We skipped food this day as all she wanted to do was sleep. The next day she was offered bland things like a plain mum mum and oatmeal however she wasn’t interested, no big deal she was just sick and still recovering.
Two days after being sick we noticed her cutting her first tooth and the second is close behind it. She still has no interest in any food. She has chewed on a piece of watermelon and a cucumber but only once each not again since being offered. She will take purées though.
Not that there’s anything wrong with purées but I’d like to not get stuck on them and go back to exploring everything else again. Could this just be from cutting teeth or from being sick earlier this week.

Did your baby make this sound?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
My baby is 6 months old and we started solids (purées and mashed) a few weeks ago. She has started making this sound when she eats and sometimes when she is playing. It sounds scary at times like she’s struggling to breathe but it’s not accompanied by anything else.
Is this normal?

Baby not eating at 10 months
My baby is 10 months old now. So far, I haven’t noticed any food allergies or strong preferences. He actually enjoys eating food from our table and is usually happy with both savory and sweet foods.
I haven’t weaned him yet. I still breastfeed him to sleep, and sometimes he also asks for milk after meals, so I feed him then as well.
However, for the past week or so, I’ve noticed a sudden decrease in his appetite. He isn’t eating his meals properly and often doesn’t open his mouth for the full meal like he used to. Earlier, he would usually eat quite well, so this change has made me a little concerned.
Ideally, I would like him to have three proper meals a day along with one or two small snacks, while continuing breastfeeding.
For parents who have been through this stage:
- What kind of meals or foods worked well for your 10-month-old when their appetite was low?
- Should I change the timing of breastfeeding so he is hungrier for solids?
- How much gap should I keep between breastfeeding and meals?
- What does your daily feeding and nap schedule look like at this age?
- Should I make any changes to my own routine so that his meals happen more consistently?
- Are there any healthy ways to encourage his appetite without forcing him to eat?
I’m especially interested in hearing about meal ideas and realistic daily schedules that worked for your babies around 10 months. Also teething has not begun yet.
