Really liking this one. Slightly disappointed that the central module doesn't actually separate. Nice job, Fanhome.

meme The Sovereign deserves a neck.
Look at it, just laying there. Flat.
We all know the Warp limit subspace damage thing is a hoax anyways. I mean, we’re here twisting Odyssey’s around to shave off the merest bit of this supposed damage to the environment while the Borg are barging around in cubes.
I say the sovereign deserves to have a neck.
Thank you all, I’ll make sure the door doesn’t hit me on the way out.

original content USS Malta
Render done in Blender of my homebrew class of ship the Island class with this being the USS Malta... I dont know blender well enough to yet to add the name and registry 🤣
I was looking at the Sagan and Echelon classes and thought what would the opposite of an Echelon be like? I.e a Sagan missing its upper Nacelles. So I played around and then added a neck (barely visible) and variable mission pod on top.

I modelled a Tellarite Heavy Escort
While spending some time updating various Tellarite related bits in the New Civilisations mod for Stellaris, I figured I'd try my hand at a new Heavy Escort to help pad out their ship roster.
Above is the Gdurav class Heavy Escort. If I was starting again I might have flattened out the rear part of the forward hull, and maaaaybe have integrated the bussard into that rather than the lower-side pods, but otherwise I'm happy with how it came out.

USS Ranger - time rift animation test -1
camera movements are a lot smoother, but i'm not overly keen on the texturing of the ranger.
i've made some changes, so we shall see how that looks once it's finished.
this is also stretched to half speed, so i'm not entirely sure how it will look like if i render it at a native 50fps and let it run, especially the rotation of the rift. but we shall see.
any comments on anything, as long as they're constructive, will be greatly appreciated!

Looked for a Scottish Gaelic translation for my son's name since I haven't named a ship after him yet.

original content Is my procedural Aztec pattern hitting that Refit feel?
Hi all. I'm working on a procedural aztec shader in Blender, with the Enterprise refit saucer as my reference. Honest question for people who know these hulls: does it feel accurate to the universe? If not, what's the biggest thing giving it away?
Included: a top view, a raking-light ortho view, my 16-motif atlas (made in GIMP), and the node group (rings, slices, mirroring, seed, paint, pearl and relief, all in one panel).
All critique welcome. Thanks!

Haven't had time to work on the Reacher in a bit.
Hopefully now I have more time. I just finished what should be the transporter boosters, and for a ship thats supposed to be 1,100 meters in length. Probably gonna need to work on the size of them.
Again learning so please if you have understandable tips that would help.
And please be nice 😅

Jefferies Got It Right in 1964: The Original Enterprise Was an Engineering Masterpiece
We need to talk about Starfleet naval architecture, because somewhere between Matt Jefferies sketching the original Enterprise on a drafting board and Andrew Probert greenlighting the Constitution-refit, Starfleet’s Advanced Starship Design Bureau consumed to much Andorian ale.
If you dig into Jefferies’ original notes and early production layouts for TOS, you realize something shocking, the original ship actually made sense.Jefferies was a pilot and aviation draftsman. He understood safety envelopes, hazardous containment, and structural routing.
Everything that came after 1979?Thermodynamic and tacticallunacy.
In the original 1964 concept, the ship didn’t have a giant, glowing, vertical reactor pulsing in the middle of the engineering hull. Scotty’s Main Engineering was located on Deck 7/8 in the saucer section, directly forward of the impulse engines.
The warp propulsion systems, fuel reaction, and field generation were meant to be housedentirely inside the nacelles.
Think about how brilliant that is:
- The Bussard Collectorsat the nacelle caps scoop up interstellar hydrogen/deuterium and feed it directly into the warp reaction system right behind them. No detour. Zero plumbing gymnastics.
- Hazard isolation: The volatile, radiation-heavy components were physically exiled to the nacelles, held far away from the crew by thin pylons designed to act as intended breaking points. If a reaction goes critical, you blow the pylon bolts, nacelle flies away, ship saved.
The TMP Overhaul: A Plumbing Nightmare
Starting with The Motion Picture and cemented in TNG, designers wanted a massive, cinematic "heart of the ship" set piece. So they yanked the reactor out of the nacelles and shoved a multi-deck antimatter bomb right into the center of the engeering hull.
Enter the mostextremefluid dynamics nightmare in sci-fi history:
- The Bussard collectors scoop deuterium at the forward tips of the nacelles.
- Instead of using it there, the ship pumps this raw gas all the way down the pylons, through half the secondary hull, down to the deuterium storage tanks. Meters away from the warp plasma conduits.
- Then it feeds the deuterium into the central warp core to slam into antimatter.
- Then the resulting multi-million-degree relativistic warp plasma is pumped all the way back up, through high-stress bends in structural pylons, back into the nacelles to power the coils.
Why create a high-pressure plasma highway through the most vulnerable joints of the ship just to reverse the fuel's morning commute? Any combat hit to a pylon doesn't just strip your mobility; it ruptures a pipe containing stellar-core energy running through your structural frame.
And then we reach the pointwhere Starfleet designers evidently traded structural engineering degrees for interior design magazines.
On theRefit-Enterprise, they put theArboretum and botanical gardens right adjacent to the primary EPS junctions, antimatter containment baysand warp core—complete with giant panoramic exterior windows.
Let that sink in:
You have cryogenic antimatter pods near absolute zero. Right next to them, a vertical core channeling millions of degrees of plasma. And literally a bulkhead away, an botanist trying to keep the humidity at a crisp 40% for his Vulcan night-blooming orchids. Worse yet, you put massive panoramic bay windows right there on the outer hull. I don’t build a rooftop zen garden on top of a nuclear reactor containment vessel and paint a fluorescent bullseye on the patio umbrella. Any Klingon tactical officernot fully drunk ofof bloodwine doesn’t need to bother chewing through main hull plating; he just locks torpedoes on the greenhouse glass.Let’s see how your transparent duranium handles a ~60 megaton photon torpedo blast.
Andin the24th century, Starfleet decided to invite families aboard. So you have toddlers on the daycare swings, casually gazing out panoramic windows at a Vor'cha-class battlecruiser decloaking 500 meters away, aligning its disruptors directly with the sandbox.
Matt Jefferies designed aspaceship like an aircraft: volatile systems on the wings, payload and passengers safely insulated in the fuselage, short fuel lines, maximum survivability.
Post-TMP Starfleet designed cruise liners with attached armaments, routing the deadliest substances in the known universe through structural bottlenecks while placing kindergartens and ficus trees right on the reactor blast shield.
We just traded hard-nosed aviation logic for mood lighting and greenhouse glass.

My Obena class cruiser. The USS Archibald.
I dont like the Excelsior II or Obena . So, I combined the two into something I think that works better than either ship individually.

original content How does names work?
A long time ago, I learned form a guy that the First ship of a Brand New Ship type doesn’t have a nickname, like the Enterprise is a Constitution-Class, but it wasn’t made first. The U.S.S Constitution was, therefore, the ship type is called Constitution-Class.
How true is this? How does this really work?
