Living in St Thomas

Hey, I’m 21 in a trade school for marine technician, and a yacht chartering company offered a job to move down there and work for them and I was wondering what life is like down there to see if I should consider it. I’d be able to take off August through November off because that is when the season ends. So I could travel if wanted too. I was hoping you could shed some light on what life is like down there and any tips or warnings that would help if I decide to move down there. I’m from New England.

Margaritaville Vacation Club

my wife and i want to take our family of 6 to St. Thomas in January 2027. We havent been since our honeymoon 15 years ago so I'm sure some things have changed.

How is Margaritaville for families in terms of pool, beach, and food? Kids are 6, 13, 14, 20 so we aren't looking for anything super fancy, just clean good fun, not trying to break the bank.

Looking for a Private Tour

Hello All,

My family and I will be visiting St.Thomas in a few months. We are looking to do a private tour around the island ideally also include a stop at Magens bay. There will be 10 of us so will need a bigger vehicle.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a driver or company we can use?

Thanks in advance!

Looking for some rec’s!

Hellooo everyone! 😊

I was hoping I could possibly get some recommendations and/or advice! I apologize in advance because I’m sure you guys get these a lot.

I’ll be visiting towards the end of October with my husband, and parents. Our age group is early 30s to 60, we’re all pretty physically active, open minded and adventurous!

I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to offer any recommendations for any hidden gems for interesting/unique things to see, experience, do, or eat/drink on the island! (We’re also not against island hopping either).

I’ve already been researching a lot of what to do on the internet (ie travel advisor, etc) but didn’t know if there was anything that you all would highly recommend that isn’t on there because it’s more off the hidden path.

Additionally if anyone has any advice please feel free to share!

Thank you so much again in advance and we can’t wait to experience beautiful St Thomas❤️🙏

Edit: thank you guys seriously so much for all the amazing recommendations!!!🫶 You all are the best!!!💕🙌

After lots lots

After lots and lots of research, we finally decided that we are going to spend our anniversary in St. Thomas and St. John. We will be there in late October, so I am well aware of the possibility of rain. Just looking for pointers on things to do for some older people. We're late 40s. We're only gonna be there from Friday until Monday with our flight getting us there early afternoon. Any recommendations for a laid-back and relaxing weekend are greatly appreciated.

I always sit on the balcony so I can watch seaplane and boats. Always nice and breezy.

Their hot sauce has a fresh red pepper taste. Want to try in my home cooking.

Work commute between STT to STJ, is it reasonable?

Good afternoon, looking for local insight.

I am moving to USVI in October and will be working in Cruz Bay on St. John. I am currently looking for housing and was curious how common it is for people to commute via ferry from STT to STJ and back each day. I am having difficulty finding a reasonable place on STJ and there are much better options and prices on STT on the east side. I do have a car to get me there and back, and can practically walk minutes to my job after landing on Cruz Bay. Working 5 days a week and after calculating the cost per month plus gas, it’s still cheaper for me to rent in STT and commute than to rent in STJ with my present renting options. Is this commute common on the island?

Vehicle Transport

Transporting To or From VI couldnt be easier with me, Kirsten at ShipLux. I can pick up from any location, door, dealership, private resident, etc in the US and I can deliver it to the port in VI - St. Croix & St. Thomas. From VI, I can deliver it to your door in the US.

TRANSIT TIME: Vessels sail out every Tuesday & Friday.

Email me(kirsten.berenty@shiplux.com) the following and I can give you a price quote:

Year, Make & Model of the vehicle

From where(city, state or zip) to where(city, state or zip you need it transported?

Cape Air at STT

I’ve flown Cape Air from STT once in the past and got to the airport 2.5 hours in advance to find that I didn’t have to go through security or customs and instead just had to proceed to the room to the left and then load up on the plane. The desk agent was surprised how early I got there.

If I’m flying from STT to SJU with Cape Air this week (and then on to the states with a different airline) can I assume I won’t need to go through security and customs and thus don’t need to arrive with so much extra time?

TL;DR does every Cape Air flight out of STT not require security and customs? Thanks!

The book mentions Dominica, but not VI, but I read about the VI landing years ago in an online historical document.

They hunted sea turtles in VI to eat during voyages which is mentioned in other documents.

Lots of personal family history, but his maritime experiences are what interested me. His son is the author so it's a loving tribute to his dad.

Not the typical Caribbean colonial fort. Someone said it was ugly. I think it's fascinating!

Coral World Internship + living in St Thomas for 6 months?

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I’m curious if anyone here has done the Coral World internship in the past. What was your experience like? Is it worthwhile moving to the USVI for 6 months to intern there?

If you haven’t interned, what is living in St. Thomas like? I’m most interested in the cost of living, transportation (without a vehicle), things to do (I’m less of a night life person and more into day activities, food, nature) and generally what it might be like as a recent college graduate!

Anything you wish you’d known before moving there would be greatly appreciated!
