Waibel in or Waibel out aside, please vote! Honestly, we’ve never hit the threshold to make anything binding (40%), and I think if we were to hit that level of voting it would send a message in itself. People are watching, people care.

First of all, Hanauer out
Second of all, this summer was pretty decent with bringing down's Rusnak contract to a TAM deal to bring in Joveljic as a DP
But let's also not forget the rest of Waibel's tenure as GM these past few years:
- Brought in Heber
- Didn't sell Xavier Arreaga and Leo Chu fast enough when there was clear interest in them a year prior. When we did eventually sell them we didn't get as much return on investment
- The Obed contract/transfer situation (YMMV on this one)
- de La Vega (again another one where YMMV)
- DP Escalators (Morris, Ferreira)
These are just the ones that I can think of on the top of my head so I'm probably forgetting a few you could include into that list above
But for those of you that can vote, please don't just account for this summer window when evaluating Waibel. Evaluate the whole

I do agree that a lot of this has nothing to do with Craig, but a vote of no confidence in Craig I think puts a lot of pressure on Adrian to fulfill the wishes of the fans. This is one of many steps we can take to become a more ambitious team.

Just to add some positive moves during his tenure:
he re-signed Cristian to 5 years on TAM salary. A+ move.
Rothrock re-signed, who's been up and down this season, but we would have been sunk without him.
Ragen extension: maybe not the best example, but I think it was a good move on the whole

Don't dispute the Hanauer out - he has been great but talk about Renton is a disaster unless a ploy to get better terms at Lumen.
Im on the keep Craig line with budget and late money from ownership getting a real 9 was a masterclass this summer. All GM's make mistakes but overall I believe Craig is doing the best with what he has and has a foundational piece plus a pleather of above average players that can play as a unit. Optimistic about a good run this fall.
Finally, who would want to be our GM when we vote out a hometown guy, who didn't have a budget and when we just voted out a guy doing an above average job. Would you want Adrian back as the GM?

u/GroovePowAngle 2d ago
Masterclass? He was going to extend/DP Ferreira until he got hurt.

u/shmerham 1d ago
We don't know Jesus's incentive target, but if it was the same as Jordan's (30 MLS goal contributions in 2 seasons), he wasn't likely to hit the target even if he hadn't gotten hurt.
He got 11 contributions last season. He needed 19 contributions this season. He got injured in the 16th game of the season and was sitting on 6 contributions. He would have needed to almost double his production to get 13 contributions in the last 18 games plus playoffs.

Good points, and agreed. That said I think Craig and to a degree Adrian seem to have been content with this type of effort around transfer windows over recent years.
I think the combination of Jesus’ injury, along with the high levels of dissatisfaction/uproar communicated by the fanbase over the stagnation of the roster and the product on the field came together to actually precipitate Adrian opening the checkbook this time. I.e. I didn’t get any sign that the FO was going to address the gap at the DP level until they were forced to.
I’m very happy with how with how we got Deki onboard, and Albert working with the team to make it happen quickly. But there were no signs that this plan was cooling before the FO was called out massively this summer.

u/shmerham 1d ago
Craig reportedly inquired about Deki last winter and at the beginning of the transfer window. It wasn't until SKC had signed Luiz that they were willing to transfer Deki. Whether Adrian would have approved a deal at either of those junctures is another question.

u/thinkwaitfastPNW Jaqua / Montero 09 2d ago
Ah but that’s not what happened Craig got Albert to go down to a tam (who is leading league in primary assists) and signed Dejan who looks like the nine we all were looking for.

Ferreira’s injury bailed Craig out for sure. Imagine the uproar if we had learned that was our next big “signing”?

You all know what to do. Make your vote count now and in November. Please hit that 40% threshold

I voted! Go vote if you can, nothing happens if enough STH's don't vote.

Waibel has got to go. I'll link and remind folks of this absolutely EXCELLENT essay on why Waibel has completely failed:

Again, massive shout out to /u/hugosanchez91 for this incredible, detailed, fact-based, analytical write-up.

The largest issue for me is opposing the move to Renton. Anyone know which way Waibel feels on the subject? I'm largely indifferent to him, but will happily vote him out if that sends the message to the FO.

u/LlamasPajamas206 2d ago
Waibel has little say in the matter and will just echo whatever Adrian publicly says no matter what he actually feels

Exactly what I am doing. Neutral at best on Waibel over the last two years, however, sad he is in the cross fire of the Renton situation. I'd rather a mid team I can watch than a good team I can't. And good is purely speculative.

Just out of curiosity, does the 40% threshold require a vote per seat total or 40% of the primary account holders? Do I need to get other members of my family to vote too?
6
u/discnutt_mlt 2d ago
The primary holder votes for everyone. Whatever the primary votes will be the same for the rest of the seats in the account. In the past, I think you were able to ask to separate your seats for voting but I’m not sure if they’re doing that this time around.

The fact that you have to find the account id to vote is criminal. They could have made it easier. They know people are going to give up on this.

- Open the Sounders/Reign App
- hit the ".... more" on the bottom right
- Select "Alliance Member Hub"
Your Account ID should be visible. Just commenting for those that are having trouble with it. It took me about 5 minutes to figure it out.

I couldn't find it in the app, had to go to ticketmaster itself. Stupid

The thing that most bothered me, and that I find inexcusable, is that in the midst of that epic meltdown and all the player injuries, both Craig and Adrian were completely silent.
I almost find that alone to be disqualifying for Craig.

Voted.
I feel like the arguments people give for Waibel in are mostly "what did you expect him to do?" And "well who else would you get to do it?"
Those aren't arguments for keeping someone in their position. For me, the big swings have all been misses (save for Deki, but he's new).
Going multiple years not being able to complete a signing.
Being almost disrespectful to Sounders legends on the way out.
On the plus side, we know he has nothing of a budget to work with and saw that he could bring in a player like Jovelic when he does.
But this is also our only mechanism for change. We can't force an expanded budget. We can only vote on the GM. It doesn't even need to be a majority vote of no confidence, it just needs to adequately reflect the feelings about the direction of the club.

Anyone have a TLDR on the constitution changes? Anything other than just dates moving?
3
u/linuxaur 2d ago
The landing page for the constutional changes is here: https://www.soundersfc.com/ballot/democracy
It's really short, so I encourge you to look for yourself, but I can confirm all the changes I saw were just dates.

u/cp_trixie Seattle Sounders FC 2d ago
Just dates: needed to align things to the new calendar. (am on the AC and wanted to give context on why anything is changing at all)

When do we get to vote out Alliance Council members who are actively shilling for Renton?? Not directed at you, personally, but I am very miffed at Paul Cox's stance on the issue.

u/Bearded_Scholar Seattle Sounders FC 2d ago
It’s just procedural stuff. You should still take a look, but I voted yes on that.

Put your most sober hat on before registering your vote. This would be a terrible time to put in a message vote just before setting up for the sprint season and beyond. But if you feel there are better options knocking on our door, so be it.
Good luck all, thanks for participating in some democracy in these times.

Reminder: Anyone with SaH has a vested interest in keeping the status quo for sake of access - like a GM that gives interviews or shows up to their events

How can y’all really want Waibel out? He gets players that go along with our culture and in my opinion our roster is great. We also have been competing for trophies year in and year out.
Just because we had a long losing streak most of our starters were hurt? Are we trying to win or we just want to sign big names and that’s it?

u/DMPofSounderatHeart Seattle Sounders FC 2d ago
Will be really interesting to see how the votes go.
- They literally _just_ got vindication of their approach, which was looking historically terrible before.
