Introducing Android 17 | Help Guide

As with every update, Android Adaptive Battery may reset. This means all apps that were automatically restricted will now be able to run in the background. Just like a brand new phone, you have to wait for at least a week or two for Adaptive Battery to relearn your app usage pattern, thereafter, you should get back your original screen-on and standby time.

Discussion As expected, Sony don't give a f

• Upvotes

Sony have replied my previous request and query, and thanks Sony, im gonna switch all my Sony product to iPhone and others.

Sony:

Greetings from Sony!

We understand that you purchased the Xperia 10 VI for S$689 based on Sony’s original announcement of three major Android OS upgrades, and we acknowledge your disappointment that Android 17 will no longer be supported.

After a detailed technical assessment, we determined that due to limitations related to the device’s storage configuration, the Xperia 10 VI does not support an Android 17 upgrade experience that we consider adequate. Accordingly, we have decided not to make this upgrade available. We recognize that this falls short of our original announcement, and we sincerely apologize for this change.

Regarding your request for a partial refund of S$170, we regret to inform you that we are unable to accommodate your request.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support of Sony.

You may receive a survey via email to rate my service after this. Your feedback is highly appreciated, as it helps us improve our support.

Hey guys, for those with alumania bumpers looks like they're working on a fix to the bad signal. I know some people have had success with it but I've found it completely cripples me inside to the point I had to stop using it.

If you can't be bothered translating, basically they're releasing a resin top part soon to help with signal issues.

Decided to use my old Xperia 5 that I got LineageOS 23 running on for a full day's worth of my usual media activities. I'm thoroughly impressed by its endurance for how old it is.

Really happy with how photos turn out when I shoot in RAW and then I tune slightly with Snapseed. The new Xperia has really motivated me to take more photos.

Notice regarding the Android 17 OS version upgrade for Xperia 10 VI

Dear valued customers,
Thank you for your continued support of Xperia products.
We announced at launch that the Xperia 10 VI would receive three Android OS upgrades. However, after a detailed technical assessment, we determined that due to limitations related to the device’s storage configuration, the Xperia 10 VI does not support an Android 17 upgrade experience that we consider adequate. Accordingly, we have decided not to make this upgrade available. We recognise that this falls short of our original announcement, and we wish to apologise for this change.
On the other hand, our security update commitment remains unchanged. Sony will continue to provide security updates for four years from the product’s launch date, as previously communicated.
This issue is specific to Xperia 10 VI’s technical specifications and will not impact other Xperia models.
We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding.

https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/articles/00413319

Strange, because the 10 VI has 128GB SSD/8GB RAM just like 10 VII and the SoCs use the same silicon. Maybe the system partition isn't large enough and can't be increased without data loss? Not sure that's still a thing with today's A/B partition update system 🤔️

Many thanks u/johanneszab for finding and posting it in this sub.

Discussion I finally caved…

Yet another time my Xperia 5 IV gives out. This time it is the water damage, though largely my own fault (using the nav in the pouring rain), still I just don’t have the strength to sending it to repair for the third time of the year, and 5th in its life span. Though, this time it is a tiny problem the manifestation is extremely problematic. though finder scanner works, power button gives up. It now registers on actually press and miss fires phantom presses multiple time. Apparently, it called the cops for me for a few times lol. Also I can’t turn it on after power off. So….

I considered myself having had done more than enough CPR before announcing its death. All I can do now is to give it a proper burial.

For the sake of convenience, I am now an iPhone user. I went for a base iPhone because I like the simplistic cam module finish and frankly it is enough of a phone.

Xperia 1 V Got my hands on to Xperia 1 MARK 5

Hi , y'all. Nilayendra this side from India. Few days ago I found a renewed Xperia 1 mark 5 and got this for myself. Surprisingly it supports 5G with my carrier and the phone is just a beautiful piece of engineering. Looking forward to any tips provided by y'all.

Is there any chances of green line in 1 Series? Or is there any known issue with the phone?

Discussion F and Bye SONY

Such a bs, promised 3 upgrades for 10vi since preorder and now just: ops sorry~

Anyone having 10 series be it 10vi/10vii/10viii or future 10 series, good luck having your upgrades cut cause the 128gb rom/8gb ram/what ever thing they used on 10 series is not going to keep up the upgrade promised they made. Good luck, 10vii or newer 10 series users, you mostly are the next getting upgrade cuts in future soon. For those with 1 series, enjoy it while you guys can~

Regret didnt switch earlier to base model iphone when i could for lesser price last year man....Bye sony you couldnt care but you lose one user for your wh 1000 series, wf 1000 series, linkbud series, wired headphone series, xperia series and so on. Sure it does not means anything to sony, but bye~

Question Does Xperia Companion undo changes made to modem in 1VIII?

Basically title. Having problems with Quick Share on my XQ-GE74 ever since upgrading to A17. I am able to open Quick Share and fiddle through the menu, even receive without problem. However, whenever I try to send something via Quick Share my phone will launch it but then crash, forcing a reboot. Google Play Services and Quick Share Extension are all updated, and I've even tried factory resetting. Xperia Companion sounds like a last resort but only if it doesn't undo the modem changes.

Update: I got Quick Share working flawlessly again, just like how it was on A16. The bad news is I had to do a full system wipe using Xperia Companion. Thankfully it has persisted through the second round of rooting for 5G. Hoping it stays this way for future updates.

Xperia 1 V Odd things happening with my new (used) Xperia 1 V XQ-DQ62 (USA)

TL;DR, RCS and Tap-to-Pay not working, IMEI appears to be SONY PM-1434-BV, I assume this isn't what you guys see when you enter your IMEI into an IMEI checker?

Hey all, friend from the US here. Hoping to get your expert opinions.

So I bought an XQ-DQ62, the US model which should be compatible with all networks, on ebay, and on arrival, some things have been odd about it. From the very start, RCS refused to work, and I was unable to set up Tap to Pay.

It gives me a message "This device can't be set up to tap to pay. Your device doesn't meet tap to pay security standards. It may be rooted or running uncertified software. For more info [...]"

While speaking with my network carrier support about the RCS issue, they asked for my IMEI and said it's not compatible with Verizon or AT&T, which was odd, considering it's ostensibly the US model.

I decided to investigate some more, and used several IMEI checker tools, and they show the device as "SONY PM-1434-BV"

I think I've figured out everything I need to know, but I'd just like some confirmation from the community before I raise a case:

It sounds like I've been sold a non-US model, which was reflashed with a US ROM, and IMEI swapped with a throwaway, and that this is probably the cause of my strange issues. Is it also possible that this is a stolen device?

Edit: Additionally, I just discovered under "About Phone>Certificates" it shows "Type: PM-1430-BV Model: XQ-DQ72"

HELP Overheating in Xperia 1v

Post image
50 Upvotes

I bought an Xperia 1v after using an Xperia Mark 4 due to its high temperature, but I was surprised to find that the Mark 5 also overheats, even though it's supposed to be better than its predecessor. Do you have any idea why? I live in Malaysia. Do you think the hot weather here is the cause? Other devices like Oppo and Samsung don't seem to overheat like this. By the way, I don't use a 4K screen or a 5G connection.

Absolutely raw, no gcam, no Snapseed.

I'm always in awe of the 1 series phones taking pictures. Please forgive me if the quality isn't upto the mark, I was in a hurry to reach class and somehow traversed 25mins of travel route in 12mins on a MTB right after taking these pics.

Discussion I love Xperia but the repairbility is just very bad

had my xperia 1 VI fell down and the screen had to be repaired. Screen from aliexpress cost like 400 bucks including VAT and repair at authorized store is 450 bucks, in which I have to send it. Ofc it is much reasonable to send it to an authorized repair, even though I can try to do it myself, despite I have to wait for them to order before they actually begin the work. Still the cost is massive if you look at other manufacturers because the screen cost 400 while the phone itself I paid like 1000 bucks. For example, S25 ultra screen cost just around 50-150 bucks, pixel 10, oneplus13 is around that too. Making it more make sense for self-repair

HELP Sim Card is recognized but Xperia 10V still doesn't connect to mobile network

I checked on my previous phone that I stopped using because of a battery issue and the sim works fine here, got the messages and connected to 5G.
The sim is read by the phone as it does ask for the pin code and displays the phone number in the settings.
I'm in a different country than that of my operator but they claim it works fine in this one and it indeed did for many months so they may have messed something up ? Especially since this happened while the phone was on my bed, not being used, I received a message of welcome back to [original country] and then welcome to [current country] and then it stopped working.

I'm trying to figure out the troubleshooting and would like to be advised in that aspect.
I feel like trying a local SIM would at least give good data on what's going on at the very least but what worried me is that it works on the other phone. The other one is a Xiaomi Redmi 4 Pro.
