Channel Island from 'The Sock Obsession' by Summer Lee

Thank you u/Swimming_Juice_9752 for posting about this pattern. I've just finished a pair in Rowan Sock, Coral and doubled the leg length to make them knee highs. I also added an inch to the cuffs in case I need to add garters to stop them slipping down.

I enjoy wearing knee highs as if you are going to knit a fancy pants pattern, you may as well go big.

The pattern appeals to me as my great great grandfather was a master mariner in the Channel Islands.

Socks for Autumn

Another pair using the last bit of yarn from a skein. My friend went to Australia and sent me the colorful yarn. It’s Patons Australia Patonyle Artistry in the Sunrise Mix color way. The contrasting toes and heels are Madelinetosh Twist Light in the Ghost color way.

The socks include elements from a few patterns. The toe up construction and ribbing are from the Time Traveler sock pattern. The mini-gusset on the instep is from the Up & Down Vanilla Swirl sock pattern. The shadow wrap heel is what I learned from Earth Tones Girl on YouTube. I continued the ribbing up the legs of the socks and bound off in pattern.

On to the next pair!

Non-vanilla patterns for rainbow yarn?

Post image
47 Upvotes

I started making a pair of vanilla socks thinking that a busy, showstopper yarn warrants a simple pattern, but I’m not quite sure I vibe with them as they are.

I’ve tried making Hermione socks with a similarly “fast paced” variegated yarn and ended up frogging those since it looked really choppy and odd.

Any pattern suggestions? Or am I thinking way too hard about this and should just continue?

Midwest Nice Socks

Socks for a friend based on Midwest Nice Socks by Sock Witchery but I didn't take the pattern down the foot. The yarn is unknown origin and fibre from a charity shop. Not sure the pattern and the yarn are a match made in heaven but kind of works.

Current WIP

Current WIP: Drops Garnet Glow socks in Loops and Threads Delicate DK. These will be for my oldest daughter for the holidays. This is my first time doing a diamond heel. Not sure how I feel about it. It seems like the front of the sock will be bunchy on the shin. What has been your experience with diamond heels? Also can’t get over how much this yarn looks like a sunset 😍

Question about sock knitting machines

Does anyone use sock knitting machines to create the tubes? I looked online and its either the 48 needle ones that are reasonable(ish) or the ones with 64 (which matches hand knitting) that are in the thousands.... is there anything that isnt thousands of dollars and can make adult socks?

Calf increases for toe-up socks?

I’m making a pair of socks in the style of the Crackerjack Socks, where each row represents a game played by a baseball team. These are a gift for a long-distance friend who is a different size than me, so trying on is not an option.

I’m quickly realizing these are going to be taller than I expected (probably 7-8” in the leg before adding the cuff). Do I need to add increases as the socks get taller, to account for the calf? Or am I overthinking this?

Trouble with tension only on socks

So I'm having a problem that only when I knit socks my tension is extremely tight. Like I was working on the Stoneknit sock, and I had to use two sizes up needles just to make them big enough to fit my feet. I'm not sure how to loosen my tension since it's only when I knit socks. Should I just continue using larger needles or try to figure out my tension problem?

Question about pattern instructions

Hi, I just finished knitting the leg of this sock and the pattern says for the heel:

”Row 1: Knit heel stitches, slip last knitted stitch to instep needle, turn.”

I am knitting magic loop, so my stitches are divided in half. Does slipping the stitch to the instep needle mean like, physically moving it around to the other side of the cord where the instep stitches are?
