Landscape Design

My wife and I recently moved into a new home that we love! The front yard was done well already; however, the back yard is somewhat of a blank canvas. The only issue is that our lot slopes pretty heavily in the backyard (looking out from the back of the house it slopes right to left).

We are looking for recommendations on Landscape Design or Landscape Architect companies that people have worked, with good reviews, who can help us plan out the best way to make the backyard more enjoyable!!

Please send any and all recs!! Thank you!!

Baking Social Battery ATL

What does everyone think about Shane Quillen’s new bakery concept at the Battery, The Baking Social?

I was excited for this open until I saw classes start at $125 per person, per class.

Is this typical pricing? Is it worth it?

Update: EV Charger Install - Electrician Recommendation: Spoke with Powers Electric (Thank you Reddit Smrynians!) - Like 30 of ya'll recommended these folks to me.

Met with Powers Electricians today - Completely different professional experience.

Quoted:

$1500 for the Charger Installation, including a 60A run from the panel to the installation location on a separate breaker.

$1k for a Panel refresh - because I know some of my breakers are probably old enough to vote.

No service upgrade needed because I've got 150A on the house already.

My electrician Nate was epic. He was in and out of the house in 15 minutes. Didn't try to upsell me on anything, didn't try to shoe-horn unnecessary Tesla shit into the quote, got along with my dogs - Pointed out a couple of things I should be concerned with in the future but wasn't pushy - wasn't trying to sell me.

I approved the EV Install quote before Nate finished pulling out of my driveway.

Original Post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Smyrna/comments/1wvyqfv/any_recommended_electricians_for_ev_charger/

So TE came out and told me they'd have to add a bunch of Tesla shit I didn't need to my panel to get it to work with an EV Charger - then they said service to my house was a mere 100A, and I'd need a 200A service upgrade, and then they said the 40A circuit that existed (originally installed for an electric oven) wasn't enough to power a L2 Charger, and that would need a new run and more Tesla shit.

TE Quoted me:

$3951 for the Charger Installation

$15,576 for the Service Upgrade.

I can provide the original quotes for the Mods if required.

I have a pretty old galley kitchen that will end up being a full gut job and im not sure who to contract. There seems to be like a million people that "specialize in kitchen remodels"

Early Voting Location

I see First Baptist Church of Smyrna at 1275 Church St as an early voting location, but I’ve been burned in the past trying to vote early and the location not honoring the full hours in Smyrna. Is it really going to be open at 7am for early November voting tomorrow?

What 90s band does the city bring in for the 2027 birthday party?

I've been impressed with the random caliber of the bands that the city pulls for the annual celebration. Just curious at people's guesses (or wishes) for who they book next year.

Ace of Base? Sister Hazel? Hansen? Chumbawumba? (No idea if any of these bands are even still around. They just seem like the same Millennial category that they've followed thus far.)

Rehoming Two Cats

I’m looking for a loving forever home for my two cats, Phoenix (boy, 3 years old) and Morgan (girl, 3 years old). This is an incredibly difficult decision for me, but I’m going through a challenging time financially and unfortunately I’m no longer able to provide them with the care they deserve.

Phoenix and Morgan are both incredibly sweet, loving, and friendly. They may take a few days to feel comfortable in a new environment, but once they warm up to you, they are affectionate and wonderful companions.

Morgan is currently experiencing some irritation in her right eye. Unfortunately, because of my current financial situation, I haven’t been able to get her to a vet, so I want to be upfront about that and make sure she gets the medical attention she needs.

I love these two very much, and my biggest priority is finding them a safe, caring home where they will be loved and properly cared for. Ideally, I would love for them to stay together since they have each other.

If you or someone you trust may be able to give Phoenix and Morgan the loving home they deserve, please reach out to me. I would be happy to answer any questions and provide more information about them.

💗FCAS Senior Shelter Pup Looking for Her Happily Ever After💗

Meet FCAS foster Amy! 💖 This 7yo, 60lb (looks smaller, she’s muscular!) shepherd mix girl is certified BFF material! 👯‍♀️ She’s been our easiest foster thus far and has been such a polite, happy houseguest. She’s incredibly affectionate, will lean in for hugs, and loves to stand and put her paws on your shoulders if you’re seated eye level with her. 🥹 She makes the cutest little grunting noises when she snuggles and her head tilt game is STRONG! 😆

She may technically be a senior (suspect she may be a bit younger), but she’s still got plenty of pep in her step! She’s super playful, loves fetch, and has a blast running around the yard and playing with our resident Shepsky. 🐾 She also settles quickly, sleeps through the night, LOVES to cuddle, and doesn’t show signs of separation anxiety (only short-lived protest whines and quickly gives up 😆). All in all, 10/10 good girl! 🥰

✅ Potty trained - no accidents! 🤞🏽
✅ Leash trained - pulls, but manageable
✅ Crate trained
✅ Non-destructive
✅ Dog friendly
✅ Excellent temperament
✅ Knows commands - sit, stay, shake (both paws)
✅ Good recall
✅ Treat/food motivated
✅ Non-reactive (treats, toys, food, etc)
✅ Easily handled
✅ Easy to bathe/dry/brush/trim nails
✅ Spayed
✅ HW negative

Amy’s kryptonite? Cats. 😩 She’s shown pretty strong prey drive with our senior kitty, so she would do best in a feline-free home. 🐈‍⬛

We also don’t know how she does with kids, but I imagine the only issue might be that she can get excited and could accidentally cause little children to topple over. 😅

She has an Embark DNA test in progress, so curious to see what her breed mix is…👀

Amy is currently being fostered in Kennesaw, GA and available for adoption through LifeLine Animal Project Fulton County Animal Services. Click the link below to schedule a meet & greet with her or feel free to message me! 👋🏽

Exit 15 peach stuff

Has anyone ever made it to exit 15 for peach bread or peach salsa? I’ve seen the signs for years but have never tried it. I was also surprised to see the same handmade signs for a different exit about an hour or so on 85 South

Smyrna Birthday Party Real Start?

I just went to the Village Green (12:30 Saturday) and it was dead. I kind of remember there being a bunch of vendors this time last year. Is there a different plan this year?

Insane Braves Traffic rant

What's the point of putting someone on the corner of Cobb and Spring to direct traffic after Braves games if they're just going to make traffic worse??

I don't know what was wrong with the guy directing traffic there last night, but the scene was complete bedlam. It took forever just to approach the intersection. The guy directing traffic was ONLY concerned with letting cars out of the braves game. Every light cycle, he'd let out so many cars from the battery that they would completely gridlock the intersection to all other lanes of traffic, bringing everyone to a complete standstill *for miles*.

After about 15 complete light cycles with no one but Braves traffic moving - and almidst a cacophony of honking and yelling - all the other cars just started ignoring the cops and the traffic lights and forcing their way across. For the next 20 minutes (at least), it looked like those videos from some place like Calcutta, with hundreds of cars going in every direction at once with zero traffic laws where everyone is forced to fend for themselves.

Everyone was honking and yelling and screaming at each other. It was a modern day Lord of the Flies and the closest thing to anarchy that I've ever seen. The cops did absolutely nothing to help and were even making things worse as more and more obnoxious drunken battery drivers gridlocked the intersection. Maybe the cops were understaffed; or maybe someone hurt them as a child and they wanted others to feel their pain - I have no idea.

I have never in my entire life seen such chaos. It would have been better, safer, and more efficient if they just unplugged all the traffic lights, removed all cops, and let people treat it as a 4-way stop.

Library fundraiser events: Jonquil bulb sale & Murder Mystery Night

Hey Smyrna! Wanted to share two events happening this month hosted by the Friends of Smyrna Library.

  1. Jonquil bulb sale
Previously hosted by Keep Smyrna Beautiful, for the first time this year we are selling bags of jonquil bulbs to raise money for the Smyrna Public Library. They are $30 for 40 bulbs, you can buy online and pick up at the library front desk. We have yellow and multicolor varieties. Plant in fall (now until first frost) for perennial blooms in early spring. We only have about 1/4 of our stock left!

  2. Murder Mystery Night, Oct 30
Also for the first time we are hosting a murder mystery night at Brawner Hall! We are hiring a murder mystery company to put on a show for our community. Theme is roaring 20s, costumes are encouraged, light apps, snacks and NA beverages included. Guests must be 16+. A fun Halloween activity that supports your local library! We’d love to see yall there.

Links above go to respective pages for more info and how to purchase. Thank you guys for always showing up for us! We had a good turnout at our September book sale recently and a lot of people said they found out from reddit :)

Happy spooky season!! 🎃
