My family is very active in the local equestrian circles. Everyone just refers to it as "riding". When I speak about it with people outside of the equestrian community I will use "horse riding" and "horseback riding" interchangeably, but I tend to use "horse riding" more. I think it just depends on how quickly/formal I'm speaking.

Also someone saying "eyeglasses" is pretty rare. They're glasses.
He's spot on about horseback riding though.
