Hi Americans. Brit here.

Please don't base your opinion on British humour from this clip.

This was a shit joke from a mediocre comedian.

He also got like 90% of that wrong.

No one says "waste paper basket", We already say glasses, Squash and racket ball are different sports, the sidewalk isn't made out of pavement and I suppose we do say horseback riding or just riding.

And as far as I can tell, "sidewalk" originated in the UK, which seems to be the case with 90% of the "stupid words that silly Americans made up". ("Soccer" is the funniest one lol, just with how mad about it some English people get--and yes, at least in my experience it's primarily English people and not, say, Scottish people who get super pissed about "soccer".)

Next you'll be telling me it isn't "Look, a Lion!"

I agree. Pretty obvious watching the host and other guests that they thought his set was garbage.

He's such an unfunny bell end. 1.6k upvoter though 🙄

The structure is there but the content doesn't really work.

I enjoyed it. Doesn’t really matter if it’s true if the jokes are funny.

Exactly. The whole point of comedy is to exaggerate things. Saying things that are completely true is not likely to be funny.

Tbf Michael McIntyre is (or certainly at one point was) the highest grossing comedian in the world

So he's pretty hard to describe as mediocre. Although personal opinions vary

Popular =/= good

But yeah, he was extremely successful (and not entirely unfunny).

Dane Cook was popular once too…
