These posts all have the same issue, they completely don't understand how people lived. They see tv and the brady bunch all flying to hawaii and think everyone did that. I'm 51 and in my childhood eating out was rare, nobody flew anywhere on vacation and people drive the same cars for so long it's how you knew who was coming down the road. The only people I knew who "lived like rock stars" were single males who had no kids and had the boss job at the factory.
We had one old car and had to do all the work on it ourselves, vacation once a year was driving some place and staying in a motel (not even a hotel or flying anywhere), cooked and ate at home or took bag lunches to school/work every single day with the exception of going out twice a MONTH, no DoorDash, no cell phones, no gaming consoles, no big screen tv, 1 small TV for the whole house, no concerts, and our house had one bathroom, a single car garage, and the most basic, cheapest finishes throughout the entire house.
And my parents relocated across the USA to a more affordable area in order to get this house.
And they were so appreciative and gladly did it without complaining.
And both my parents worked.
People today don't have a clue about how people truly lived back then.
Life was hard for just about everyone.
AND
You can still do this today, plenty of affordable areas to live with good jobs in the South and Midwest.
Both my Gen Z kids bought homes last year at 24 and 28, and my daughter, the 28 year old, only makes $50k a year and did it all on her own. If she can do it, anyone can as long as they are wiling to put in the effort and live in an affordable location.
So tired of all these whiners and complainers thinking everybody lived like kings on minimum wage.
