These posts all have the same issue, they completely don't understand how people lived. They see tv and the brady bunch all flying to hawaii and think everyone did that. I'm 51 and in my childhood eating out was rare, nobody flew anywhere on vacation and people drive the same cars for so long it's how you knew who was coming down the road. The only people I knew who "lived like rock stars" were single males who had no kids and had the boss job at the factory.

Guess what grandma, people still rarely go out to eat, don’t have vacations and drive the same car til the wheels fall off (if they can afford one) and still can’t afford to eat, you ain’t special.

You cannot possibly believe that people don't eat out far more often in todays world than they did 40 years ago. If you do, you are truly clueless abot the realities of life in the 1980s

I think it's the duality of the k shaped economy. I know people who don't eat out, pretty much at all because of finances. Then we also know people who get takeout/door dash on the regular.

We may live in. K dhaoed economy l but eating out more than a couple of times per month was ot normal. While some may never/rarely eat out in todays world, that was the norm 40 years ago.
