I dunno man, I've talked to a lot of Boomers that straight up say they don't know how young people are supposed to make it out here.
I'm not a Boomer myself, but I do remember when I took a job delivering Pizza and legit felt rich. I had money after rent, not like brand new car money but I could go out. I started bartending and I could go out 5 nights a week and never be in debt. I cringe at the price of going out right now, and although I have a family, I make myself about 15k more a year than the average two person household by myself. My wife works part time. And we are struggling off this. That's not a financial management thing, stuff just costs a lot more. Even small basic family needs like a kid with food aversions instead of costing 100 or so more a month costs like 200 more a week.
It's messed up
And I do think there are some life working principles someone can learn from boomers, just like they could learn restraint from traditionalists, it's not okay out here.
If some are talking to you like this it's probably because the economy itself is out of your control and focusing on what you can control is the only way out.
Also, don't let Boomers fool you. They were dropping acid and sleeping in tents at your age. I've seen the docs
Even with aggressively moving jobs for pay raises and getting a great salary, well above the median, I just feel like it's always eaten up and THEN SOME by cost increases. And like the post says, we have to live like monks just to get by. I'll never be a regular at any business because I can't go buy something every day.
