Should never do this to a child. The fever and trauma will get permanently embedded into their brains.

22

u/DarnKatz 23h ago

My dad did shit like this to me and I have so much anxiety about stuff. He finally realized when I was 36 why I hate the things I do

2

u/Shieldsman 13h ago

My older sister made me watch the original IT with Tim Curry when I was like 5 years old xD

2

u/DeadNotSleepingWI 12h ago

Mine was Nightmare on Elm Street. I turned out fine.

1

u/Boring-Stranger2305 12h ago

I watched Harry and the Hendersons... im scared of trees...

1

u/Emerje 5h ago

Poltergeist when I was 4 back in the 80s. Then when I was 9 (still in the 80s) my best friend made me watch Puppet Master III at a sleepover. I rarely watch horror movies now.

1

u/UsedDimension7373 4h ago

My dad took us to see the EXORCIST when I was 7. To this day- TO THIS DAY- when I see someone’s head turn completely around, it scares the piss outta me.

But cuntish parents need their internet clout

1

u/2Wieners_1Bun 17h ago

Should have locked the door.

8

u/RootlessForest 22h ago

For almost 95% of human history we have been literally living in fear of predators and we got this far. Now something like this will turn a child into a damaged snowflake. Relativity

9

u/Otherwise_Twist3560 22h ago

Yeah but actual predators that can kill you, you should be scared of. That shouldn’t be your parents

3

u/Traditional_Cry_2628 16h ago

And there’s gonna be way stronger of perceived danger when technology allows you to put a scary object behind you and make it follow you and touch your shoulders. That shit is probably so real to a 7 year old. They don’t understand shit.

-5

u/RootlessForest 21h ago

Ahh yes here comes the logic.

Parent do ghost prank = Parent doing domestic abuse & parents are evil

We came from a situation where a child could witness how someone could get killed, and/or mauled on the spot.

And if little timmy was able to hold a stick you better hold on boy, because your life depended on it.

Them kids might not had an Ipad, but them balls bigger then yours

3

u/Otherwise_Twist3560 21h ago

Our ancestors had to fight for their life and now we just argue on Reddit. Very manly of us both

-1

u/RootlessForest 17h ago

Kinda funny how you deflected the conversation after i made a solid point and turned this into "look we arguing"

1

u/fuckyouguy_ 8h ago

Ah yes ah yes ah yes. Why is it that every time someone starts a comment with ah yes, it’s the dumbest argument you’ve ever seen.

3

u/GroundbreakingAd8310 19h ago

Except that one kid. He was gonna fuck that ghost up

3

u/Traditional_Cry_2628 16h ago edited 16h ago

Do you think 8 year olds running from a sabertooth didn’t traumatize them? And do you think a 7 year old knows how to distinguish real danger from fake but seemingly real danger? No lol. “Well I know it’s not real as a 35 year old, so the 7 year old shouldn’t fear it”. Exactly what the parents think. “So I’m going to create an artificial danger for their highly susceptible mind”

3

u/koristeviipaloitu 15h ago

It's the betrayal that hurts the most.

1

u/flamingotwist 22h ago

Crocodile fuckin Dundee are you?

4

u/smolpoodle 21h ago

Trauma is ridiculous

2

u/TheCharalampos 20h ago

And yet it's real.

0

u/smolpoodle 19h ago

Yeah caused by physical abuse, inappropriate abuse, verbal and mental abuse not scary ghost graphics. Down playing actual sources of trauma is not helpful. Spirit Halloween store is far more terrifying than this and unfortunately people bring tiny children in there. Is that trauma inducing? Is telling spooky stories trauma inducing?

2

u/TheCharalampos 13h ago

Spoken like someone who doesn't know much about trauma.

1

u/GlassSnowFox 19h ago

So the type of parent who doesn’t care whether or not their kids get terrified and purposefully puts them in situations like this probably finds it easy to do frequently. One prank probably won’t cause trauma but repeatedly doing stuff like this is going to change a persons wiring to end up as insecure adults. I think it takes a messed up person to think that making people/animals scared on purpose is funny

3

u/smolpoodle 19h ago

If a by like age 10 a child can't tell the difference from a parent who loves them and pranks them vs an abusive parent there are bigger developmental issues going on. Before then... Are these parents also shielding them from iPads and phones? Using that is much scarier than a little ghost graphic. There's real horrors in this world and fake ones. Educate them to know the difference.

0

u/GlassSnowFox 19h ago

Yes like the real horror of fucking a vaccinated person right? That deleted post was like 4 years ago though so hopefully you've educated yourself by now

2

u/smolpoodle 11h ago

🤣 whenever someone goes into the archives the logic of said post doesn't hold up. Like name calling in a debate lol. I thought my posts were hidden anyways wtf

1

u/GlassSnowFox 8h ago

Hidden profiles are very entertaining! Even deleted things can be found it’s good to know.

What you said about kids having bigger issues if they can’t tell the difference between abuse and harmless pranks wasnt entirely wrong. It can be hard though to see when abuse is happening. My parents loved me but were neglectful because they have their own issues and it had followed me my whole life. I didn’t realize what they did was wrong until well after college I just thought I was always wrong about feelings.

Seeing people get enjoyment from kids being afraid must be sort of triggering for me I guess

1

u/smolpoodle 8h ago

Yeah well 🤷‍♂️ thanks for reminding me everyone needs to be reminded of digital footprint once in a while lol sigh... Whyyyyyyyyyyyy

I'm sorry that you had those experiences. I get feeling a certain resonance with the issue and wanting to speak your mind on it I'm not trying to invalidate your experience I don't know you or what you've been through, but I wish you the best.

As for the videos, I don't even think people should be putting their children online, but the video was one snapshot of their life. These could be the most gentle parents ever and maybe this is them disciplining their children lol (like why did that one little kid stick his middle finger up LOL and one yelled shut up to her mom before the door shut). We really don't know. There's a certain humor I think it's necessary when you're with children. And besides that, most children hear scary urban legends or stories at some point or another and that has happened through out the entirety of history. Grimms fairy tales are terrifying. There's some psychological need for it to reinforce being close with your tribe. The children felt safe enough to run to their mom and I'm some of the videos the parent opened the door.

2

u/GlassSnowFox 7h ago

Haha thanks. All the best as well

Thing is I'd argue that it's a harmless prank that we all had as kids . It's more the locking them in the room alone that's the issue .

1

u/baloogabanjo 18h ago

Thing is I never got pranked by my parents and they never posted a video of me publicly online, ever.

1

u/EverythingSucksYo 8h ago

Same, never got pranked by my parents either.

0

u/PixelNomad82 18h ago

i went to school with a kid whose parents locked him inside a dark room for days. 30 years have passed, he still talks to no one (good humble person, but with severe child trauma)

note: he talks, but he chose not to talk or trust anyone ..... nowadays we have the internet and ppl think this is funny

2

u/TurkicWarrior 18h ago

Locking someone inside a dark room for days is completely different to what is shown on the video. It isn’t even comparable.

Being locked in a dark room for few days will traumatise anyone including fully fledged adults.

1

u/PixelNomad82 18h ago

still I dont think this kind of prank is good for a kids brains, there is a reason we dont let kids watch horror movies (ironically, we let them play GTA V) :\

1

u/TurkicWarrior 18h ago

I wouldn’t either but I still think these things wouldn’t put a lasting impact or trauma on a kid long term, at least for most kids. Maybe i’m bias.

1

u/Get_Wilder1778 17h ago

You should ask yourself why you think this is harmless. Some kids are clearly distressed, upset, scared for no reason. Then they find their parent laughing at them. They find out their parents thought it was funny to make them feel awful and they want other people to laugh at them as well.

I think it’s good to cultivate resilience, to be able to see outside yourself and not take yourself seriously all the time, but there are certainly better ways to do this than by inducing such a negative experience in young children.

1

u/AtensEye 21h ago

A guy I have worked with for years used to do this shit to his kids when they were small and now wonders why they have so many trust issues as teens. Hmm, it's a mystery 🤔

1

u/RunPsychological9891 21h ago

I mean, they brought them into this dumb ass America we live in. Might as well have some laughs

1

u/Background-Hope-88 20h ago

bit those 30 sweet sweet likes.

You just have to.

1

u/Healthy-Strategy9406 19h ago

Hopefully it's towards phones and tech. It hasn't been given the reverence it deserves

1

u/sora5634 18h ago

Meh its a harmless prank. Not child abuse.

1

u/Willing_Ad_5711 17h ago

I had a single bad dream when I was 4 that there was a witch in my parent's bedroom that tried to steal me and I didn't go in there alone untill I was 9.

1

u/shdymrln 15h ago

Snowflake

1

u/maybeknismo 15h ago

Then they post it online for all to see. And then it gets pulled up in your school.

1

u/East-Win7450 15h ago

Oh my god my mom used to dress up as a witch every year and it would traumatize us. We’re fine these kids are fine.

1

u/Luffy_Nika_ 14h ago

Not to mention now all the added time spent chauffering them to restrooms every single time

1

u/tripper_drip 14h ago

Thats not how that really works. Especially once they figure it out.

1

u/Substantial_Cut4086 14h ago

Naah they will be fine, it's just a scare, no harm done.

1

u/Pure-Eye9423 14h ago

Its staged.

1

u/jcork4realz 13h ago

That’s definitely the truth. Mom did this stuff to me when I was a kid and took me a long to semi recover from it.

1

u/WXHIII 13h ago

They'll be fine, its a jump scare They'll happen regardless

1

u/narfoleptix 12h ago

Im from the 80s.

My parents straight up packed my bags, dropped me off in the country and left me there for 20 minutes.

I remember every second of it. Some folks tell me thats called "trauma" I would agree.

Oh and it was because I wouldn't eat my peas.

I absolutely know that I will not be sucked down the drain in my bath tub, nor will I in a swimming pool etc., but I still get a shock of fear when I am near any of them while bathing or swimming.

I was taking too long in the bath when I was like, 5, and my grandma told me I'd get sucked down the drain when she unplugged it while I was still in the bath.

So yeah scaring them like that can absolutely alter their poor little developing brains for life.

1

u/PlixSticks31 4h ago

An entire generation survived the exorcist ghost car commercial and the scary maze game as elementary schoolers. Not every jump scare is permanent brain trauma good grief Reddit lmao

1

u/Green_Mix5839 18h ago

Got my degree in psychology. Stop being a little bitch. The child will likely not remember this in a week. With the amount of technology they see every day. With every new interaction the children will be fine.

2

u/Grouchy-Humor2138 17h ago

F your degree in psychology, I’m speaking from first hand experience beacuse I’m one of those child. 😆😆

1

u/Short_Cabinet_7593 13h ago

Yeah but now it’s on the internet forever

1

u/EverythingSucksYo 8h ago

Isn’t it a psychology thing that not everyone reacts to being scared the same way? Some of these kids might forget, some may be traumatized. Won’t know until later.

0

u/WeWantMOAR 21h ago

Lmao Naw they're going to be fine. Stay in the armchair!

-2

u/Majestic_Table_3598 23h ago

Agreed, the parents be punished for that

They will be alright a good scare for the month of October. Don’t be a weenie

-4

u/crunkle_ 23h ago

My mom showed me scary car when I was 5. I'm fine

-1

u/SingleOak 23h ago

yeah there's no blanket statement that can be made here. my brother and sister and parents would do shit like this and i'm completely fine and hold nothing against them.

my parents forced me to go on the tower of terror when i was super young and i didn't speak to them for like 2 hours. fortunately i realized that it was just a fun scary ride and got over it. now i look back at it as a hilarious story.

some people just take that kind of stuff way too personally imo but again, can't make blanket statements here, everyone's different

-4

u/UncleGarysmagic 22h ago

Good. Then maybe they will be better equipped to deal with real scary things in life instead of fake things on a device.

4

u/Radialpuddle 22h ago

More anxiety causes people to be less equipped for things…

-1

u/UncleGarysmagic 22h ago

You need to learn not to be anxious about things that aren’t real and pose no real threat to you. You learn not to be gullible as to believe everything you see on a device screen.

3

u/Radialpuddle 22h ago

It’s almost like you missed the fact that these are incredibly young children and not me.

0

u/UncleGarysmagic 22h ago

That’s precisely the time to learn.

0

u/Radialpuddle 22h ago

And you think that with parents like this who prefer internet attention at the expense of scaring their child, they are going to learn that?

I see what you’re saying for the most part but you seem to miss that every person is completely different and while most people won’t be bothered by something like this there are some that it can really mess with.

If the parents plan is to scare them and maybe teach them through it then yeah, you may have a point but come on, no one here is doing that and a 5 year old child isn’t going to do that on their own.

1

u/UncleGarysmagic 22h ago

I grew up going to haunted houses at amusement parks and Halloween spook walks. None of us were traumatized. This is nothing more than a modern version of that.

1

u/Dangerous-Push-1129 21h ago

Let life do that naturally, you don’t need your parents scaring you to learn that. These are young children and it can affect their daily lives far greater than it would ours. As a child I was shown very bloody scenes from either jaws or some other shark movie by a close relative when I was 5-6ish. I was petrified of water afterward and developed sleeping problems. I would tense up every time I showered or peed out of fear, and my mom accompanied me until I stopped. By the time I was 6-7ish the fear got less severe, but I’ve never gotten over my fear of deep water, and sharks are one of my favorite animals now! My point is, children are not going to catch on to the lesson you’re assuming they will. You can explain it to them, but they will loose trust in you. They most likely will develop fears that will mess with them and may stick with them as adults. Children already develop enough trauma in childhood from peers or other experiences, don’t intentionally do this to children. Life will beat down on them in childhood and as they get older, your job is to guide them. Be your children’s safe space to go for guidance. Remember, fears like this also affect their schooling and social lives amongst their peers, it’s not just at home. Children that develop sleeping problems will struggle in school.

3

u/getinhereandloveme 22h ago

It causes them to be MORE fearful. Not less

1

u/UncleGarysmagic 22h ago edited 22h ago

Absolutely not. People need to learn not to be so gullible and afraid of things that aren’t real.

2

u/getinhereandloveme 22h ago

Why dont you go do some research and learn about? I can assure you it does both physically and mentally leave them in a heightened state of fear.

-1

u/justjohnny1024 20h ago

If yall are crippled from being scared by your family as a child. You’re screwed lol
