When I was in 3rd grade the movie IT was real popular, (the old one with Tim Curry) and the scene where pennywise came up thru the drain fuckin terrified me. Well one night I'm in the shower and my older brothers would put their mouths to the drain in our kitchen and talk into it trying to sound like pennywise. you could hear it real good in the bathroom drain. I heard it and thought I was tripping at first, then heard it again. Real quick I turned the water off and put my head closer to the drain. And as soon as I heard my name come out of there I jumped out screaming and crying butt ass naked into my moms room and told her what happened. That shit traumatized me so bad I didn't take a shower for almost 2 months. I'd just sit on the toilet with the water running for a while then splash water on myself to make it look like I took one. My mom figured out when I started to smell so she started letting me keep the door cracked as I would shower.
When my brother was in third grade, the original Chucky movie was still popular. I taped a butcher’s knife to the hand of our sister’s cabbage patch doll and left it on his bed in the dark. He had a table and lamp kind of behind his low headboard he’d reach over to turn on. I hid there waiting. When he finally came in and reached over, as soon as the light came on I grabbed his arm and growled “Chuckyyyyy”. Such an asshole brother thing to do.
You too eh? I didn't tape a knife to my sister dolls, but as she and I were watching Chucky I remembered my little sister was going to sleep by herself in our second floor (her room was the first one ready with brand new carpet and all new furniture, mum spent nearly three days on that room) so I just casually went "You know, you're going to be alone tonight, so when your dolls try to kill you no one will help" And so my sister slept with my parents that night, and didn't go into her room until after nearly 7 months. I felt so bad.
When I was like 7 years old I fell asleep in my mom's bed with the TV on and woke up in the middle of the night to a scene from the bride of Chucky, I think, with a woman chained to a wall undergoing some sort of seance. Idr the details clearly. Anyway, I immediately pissed on my mom's brand new mattress and was too scared to move or speak so I stayed like that until she woke up. The next day I followed my incredibly irritated mom and sister from room to room refusing to be alone and keeping my back against the wall so Chucky couldn't catch me from behind until my sister finally got fed up and told me Chucky can come through walls. I still hate that fucking doll.
Ahah classic prank. I remember when I was a teen I would wait for my younger brother to go play outside, then from my room's windows I would shine a laser pointer on the ground right beside him. Once he saw it he would understand what was happening and would start screaming and running right before being hit by a laser guided Lockheed Martin AGM-114R9X Hellfire anti-personnel missile launched by one of my friends in a Boeing AH-64D Apache attack helicopter at standoff distance. Good times. Now I wonder if it was a bit too much
We rented a house that had a lot of hidden spaces/rooms and neat things. There was an off the floor storage cubby in the hallway (basically a cabinet) upstairs and I was the only one who fit in it and my older sister convinced me to climb inside and then shut the door hard and said Chucky was inside. That’s just one of like 25 similar incidents my older siblings tortured me with.
I mean I'd say the vast majority of people think it's just called Chucky...which eventually they called the show. The show is fantastic by the way if you haven't seen it.
Would have gotten me good as a little kid, One of my uncles showed me the first three Chucky movies when I was like 3-4 years old, so I was afraid of him for a while.
I was an asshole older brother too, though. My little brother was afraid of The Grudge so I used to make the noise when we were in the dark to scare him. The wall behind my bed had his closet on the other side so I'd also make like scratching noises and thumps along with The Grudge noise to make him think there was something in the closet. Just a couple of the ways I'd torment him. We have a good relationship now, but it's like there's some sort of unwritten older sibling code where you have to be at least a bit of a dick to your younger siblings lol
Bro when I was 4 I walked into my dad watching chucky and I had a cabbage patch kid. I got so paranoid with that fucking doll. My mom got rid of it. Shit stuck with me to today as a 34 year old average male doctor.
Ha! I’ve no doubt that shit stuck with my brother, too. We’ve always been close but we’re almost like best friends now. Think I’ll ask him about it later.
When me and my sister were little, my uncle got me a realistic Chucky doll for Christmas and I liked to hide it under her bedding. 😂 After a few times, my dad told me if I did it again he would take the doll outside and burn it.
My cousins would hide their Bride of Chucky doll around their house every time I visited. They also used their bodies to block the bathroom door while screaming "Bloody Mary!" Over and over again after telling me the story the night before. I was like five and it fucked me up. I was screaming and crying... Assholes.
Speaking tubes don't have traps full of water. OP is talking bullshit. The kitchen sink and the bathroom both have traps with water in them. No way you hear whispers through that.
For those new to the function of P-traps and air/sewer roof vents in modern plumbing systems.
Even if OP is lying or exaggerating about what their older brothers did, if you did get a good mouth seal on the kitchen sink drain (which sounds pretty disgusting) you could generate enough SPL waves to agitate both sides of the water in the trap to hear something. Even faintly.
However with water running from the shower into the drain and then into the trap the dB losses would not have left much to hear.
Have you never talked through pipes before? Its pretty loud. Especially before pvc. Which homes used metals in the 90s or before when ops house was built.
Plus they said they kinda heard a voice, turned off the water and put their ear to the drain.
So they heard a faint sound then eliminated the noise
Shower drain does not, yes most sinks have a p trap NOW but they didnt always.
So lets use some clues here to figure out a timeline of the events.
the date of the Original I.T.
O.P. 3rd grade
So it seem this wouldve happened in the very early 90s. Of which around that time individual fixtures required ptraps. Meaning homes built before that didnt require them and often had ONE ptrap before the sewer.
So its most likely the pipes can easily carry sound seeing as though op was living in a house built before the required individual fixtures.
But the most important thing here...why would they make this up?
My 6 year old brother in law just saw the previews for it and he was adamant about not wanting anything to do with it. All he knew was it had something to do with a scary clown and red balloons. Weeeellllllllll, I just happened to be passing a large sign advertising a new apartment complex and it had multiple red balloons attached to it to draw your attention.
I was on my way to pick up my wife, she had been visiting her parents. We were also going to bring back her little brother aka my brother in law. In that instance a plan formed.
On our way back my wife fell asleep(per the usual) so it was just me and the bil chatting and joking around. I saw the sign and red balloons up ahead. The sign was at a 4 way stop light and I did the timing where we'd stop right by the balloons. When we stopped i called attention to the sign amd said something like "oh wow, another apartment complex", he looked over and froze.
He asked if I saw the balloons. I said "what balloons". He mentions the movie IT. Since I watched it and he knew that I did I said "oh, in the movie you could only see the balloons if IT was gonna come get you"
Queue the freak out. He didn't cry or scream but he did start frantically asking questions to me about the movie. This woke up the wife who wasn't very happy with me. She calmed him down amd told him I was lying etc. He's 18 now and we still laugh about it.
All the comments on this thread feel so weird to me. I was reading IT at 12yr and scary movies didn't really do much for me other than really draw me into the story. I think the scary things that had the biggest impact on me were the Mud People of Goosebumps, the scene in the original IT of the bully being pulled into the vent and some of the art of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.
When I was around 14, a friend and I spent the night at another friend's house for Halloween. His sisters and parents and a few other family friends all went to my parents' place for games and such, so it was just us three watching scary movies in the living room.
At one point, we heard noises coming from the back of the house, but being a bunch of teenage boys none of us were willing to investigate. Then we kept hearing scratching and sharp little "ticks" at the window. Couldn't see anything. We're watching Pet Sematary, the scene where the trap door opens and a body falls out, and all of a sudden everything shuts off and we start hearing screaming and banging all around the house. I leapt up, screeched something along the lines of "OH FUUUUUCK!" and then dove beneath a sleeping bag.
Moments later, literally everyone who was supposed to be at my parents' house come filing in, laughing and clapping. They'd spent the entire evening setting us up to scare the shit out of us.
It worked.
(I've not watched Pet Sematary since. I am 49 years old now.)
This isn’t anywhere near as traumatizing as your story, but my older brother used to take the cover of the VHS and hide it around the house. I’d be going about my business and BOOM, Pennywise on the counter. Pennywise peeking out of my mom’s room. Pennywise on the bathroom windowsill. He’d be everywhere. What was it with older brothers and tormenting their siblings with Pennywise? 😭
i watched the og IT when I was younger than school age and was scared by the wrong thing. I thought the spider clown was turning himself into random objects like balloons and shit, so one cloudy rainy afternoon, I think the next day toe seeing that movie, I watched a rusty old tricycle in the back yard roll a few feet (honestly probably an inch or two) headed right for me! (again probably just an inch. aenough to get a little squeak out of it). I broke internally. I ran into the living room. screamed and fainted.
still get made fun of. IM A MAN! I don't get scared!
turns off basement light and sprints manically up the stairs
I was about 12 when I saw that. For MONTHS my shower routine was to shower with the drain closed, just letting the tub fill with water, turn off water, dry off, unlock and open the bathroom door, open the drain and run out of the room. Once it drained I closed it again and left it like that all night.
My siblings used to mess with me too, but never my parents. I think that people who do things like this to their kids probably feel, on some level, more like a sibling to their children than a parent.
