Mod Update: Chill with the Hate

Just dropping in to say—we’ve noticed a bunch of Hindutva trolls showing up lately. We’re removing their posts and banning where needed. This sub isn’t the place for that kind of hate.

Also, let’s keep it real: no jingoism from any side. Doesn’t matter if you’re Pakistani or Indian—this sub is for Sindh and Sindhis, wherever you are in the world.

And yeah, just because someone’s Indian doesn’t mean they can’t be part of this space. This sub is not restricted to race, religion or nationality.

Mods are all doing this in our free time, so if you don’t see instant action, know we’re still watching and doing our best. Keep reporting stuff and we’ll keep cleaning it up.

How Hyderabad's old rooftop windcatchers caught the breeze (and why they could not always cool the air)

Many older homes in Hyderabad, Sindh, had windcatchers on their roofs: an opening that faced the wind, caught the breeze and sent it down into the rooms below (Express Tribune, "The story of Hyderabad, Sindh", 2016; The News, "Catching wind", 2016). In The News piece, elders remember those breezes on summer evenings and at night.

One honest limit: a windcatcher brings in outside air, and an engineering article from Istanbul Technical University (2026) points out that this air can itself be very hot in summer. So it moved air through the house, but it could not promise cool air at every hour.

Disclosure: this is our own channel. We make short animated explainers in Urdu, with help from AI tools, and every fact is checked against at least two sources. The video (about a minute, Urdu) is here: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/rlnVXScfnHA

Did your family's house, or a relative's, have one? I would like to hear what it was like.

Title: Students who were behind in Class 9, how did you manage to complete your syllabus and get good marks?

I'm a Class 9 student in Pakistan preparing for the Sindh Board exams. I have multiple subjects to prepare for, and sometimes I struggle with focus, consistency, and the pressure of completing the syllabus on time.

I want to improve my marks and actually understand what I'm studying instead of just memorizing everything.

For those who have been in a similar situation:

  • How many hours did you realistically study each day?
  • How did you finish your syllabus without forgetting what you had already studied?
  • What did you do when you couldn't concentrate or felt stressed about studying?
  • What mistakes wasted the most time for you?

Politics | سياست Governor Rule Imposed in KPK

Governor Rule or Federal Interference has troubling history in Pakistan dating back to early years of the country. In Sindh, federal interference began even before the first formal imposition of Governors Rule. In 1948, Chief Minister Muhammad Ayub Khuhro was dismissed by the governor on the Governor Generals instructions officially over allegations of corruption but in reality, his dismissal was linked to serious disagreements with federal government and establishment over refugee settlement and separation of Karachi from Sindh. The first formal period of Governor Rule in Sindh began in 1951 during a period of intense political infighting and federal interference in provincial affairs. This established a dangerous precedent in which elected provincial governments could be removed when they came into conflict with federal government or military establishment.

latest move against PTIs elected government in KPK raises the same concern. security issues must not become an excuse for undermining the democratic mandate of millions of Pashtun voters. Zardari’s decision to approve this is also quite shameful. He is just another lapdog of establishment. PPP is tolerated and imposed on the people of Sindh because it remains aligned with the interests of the powerful military establishment. pakistan urgently needs constitutional amendments that make misuse of Governor Rule harder. We Sindhis should support the Pashtuns’ democratic rights and their mandate.

The Survey was conducted in 2018–19, but the TFR is calculated based on births during the three years preceding the survey.

Sindh’s overall Total Fertility Rate was 3.7 children per woman in the 2018–19 survey, with a substantial difference between urban areas (2.9) and rural areas (4.6). Among the divisions, Karachi had the lowest TFR at 2.5, while Larkana and Sukkur had the highest, at 4.9 and 4.8, respectively. Sindhs TFR declined from 4.0 in 2014 to 3.7 in 2018–19.

The districts with the highest TFRs were Shikarpur (6.6), Kashmore (6.5), Thatta (5.4), and Jacobabad (4.9).

The districts with the lowest TFRs were Karachi Central (2.2), Karachi West (2.2), Karachi South (2.4), Korangi (2.5), and Malir (2.8).

Language | ٻولي I wanna learn sindhi properly

I know basic conversational simdhi and some vocabulary, but I was sent away from my hometown at a young age, so I couldn’t stay as connected to my roots. I visit frequently and try to speak Sindhi with the house help and others, but I want to become more fluent. So we speak the Lari dialect, which i think differs somewhat from Uttaradi Sindhi if im not wrong
What are the best resources to learn Sindhi? Any books, YouTube channels, courses, or tips would be appreciated!
