Question What are your favourite specific ships? (They can be all types)

I'm not really into ship THAT much, but I do have a few personal favourites, for no reason (or at least for a reason which I cannot verbally explain). And no, I'm not some "larper" who only likes warships. I like other types of ships as well, they are all very cool, I don't discriminate against no ship, 'cause why should I? (Imagines not in order. Mods, please do not ban my post for being "low effort" because I put hard effort into my selections):

-RMS Titanic

-USS Iowa

-SS Alpina

-Vasa

-SMS Konigsberg (1905)

What are YOUR favourite ships?

history The Danish motor tanker Danmark, she was torpedoed by U-23 (Kretschmer) on Jan 12 1942

Just before twilight U-23 made her way past British escorts at Kirkwall and spotted the anchored Danmark, firing a single torpedo which caused the tanker to explode, break in two and sink immediately in the shallow water. All 40 crewmen survive, 12 with burns, and are rescued by harbor tugboats. The Danmark was inspected and declared a total loss.

News! World's oldest shipwreck found off coast of Turkey

The world's oldest shipwreck has been discovered off the coast of Turkey, archaeologists say.

They have dated it to between 4,400 and 4,700 years old, which is the Early Bronze Age, and is around the same time that the Great Pyramid was being built.

The ship's wooden structure has not survived, but the ceramic storage pots it was carrying were lying on the sea floor and, remarkably, some still contain traces of what they held inside.

The archaeologists who found the ship say it was about 10m in length and was a trade vessel carrying cargo across the Mediterranean Sea.

"The shipwreck is a time capsule at the bottom of the sea," said Prof Hakan Öniz, from Akdeniz University in Turkey, who led the Mediterranean Archaeology Association expedition.

The wreck is close to the shore of Kekova Island in Antalya, Turkey. The artefacts lie scattered across an underwater slope, just 30m beneath the waves.

Three large stone anchors were found, as well as more than 30 ceramic storage pots, called amphorae.

The fact that none of the ship's wood remained meant techniques like radiocarbon dating - which measures a form of carbon in organic materials - could not be used to determine its age.

Instead, archaeologists analysed the shape of the amphorae. Because pottery styles have changed over time, differerent styles are linked to particular periods.

The Kekova ceramics are distinctive, with two handles, a ridge in the middle and a flat base.

Öniz said this design matched other amphorae unearthed in Egypt and the Middle East that were known to be 4,400-4,700 years old.

"Comparing the decoration techniques… we can definitely say our wreck is Early Bronze Age. This is 100%."

Fairly certain the one closest is a Colorado-class, but I’m not knowledgeable enough to know which one. Looks like there is a stamp from 1936 if that helps date it.

Thank you in advance!!

Question Anyone near Zeebrugge? Looking for a photo of the BYD Changzhou

Hey!

I ordered a BYD Sealion 7 and I'm tracking the car carrier that might bring it. I think these ships are really cool but I'm in Germany, so I can't see it myself.

Could someone near Zeebrugge take a photo of the BYD CHANGZHOU (IMO 9955076)? It's been sitting since 13 Oct in the southern part of the port, at the end of a long quay (roughly 3 km SE of Zeebrugge town, ~2 km east of Lissewege on MarineTraffic). It should leave around 15 Oct (my guess).

Thanks a lot!

I have been travelling for three weeks across the coast of West Africa and suddenly picked up interest in working on a ship. Seems like the best Adventurous job out there! I have been in IT/Blockchain for a few years and God knows i coveted working on ship right now. I am also a Drone pilot, i figured flying a drone might come in handy while working on a ship.

News! Another Vessel Reported Hit Near the Strait of Hormuz Third Claim in 48 Hours

Post image
18 Upvotes

Iran’s Press TV is reporting another vessel strike near the Strait of Hormuz. If confirmed, this would be the third vessel Iran has claimed to hit in the past 48 hours, following two incidents later confirmed by UKMTO.
With reports coming in at different times,it’s becoming harder to piece together the full picture of what’s happening in the region.
How many of these incidents have been independently confirmed so far?
