KODI Move Data to USB - Final Step Help
I have an extensive Kodi library and the internal storage I have spare on my 2019 Shield Pro is fast being eaten up.
I have used the guide here: moving cached files and kodi data to external
However I am stuck at stage 3.
I can create the text file no issues, but how do I access the Shields root storage?
I have X-Plore but I am unable to access the data folder on my Shield to move the text file into /sdcard/
Any help will be appreciated.

The better way to do this is to get an external HD or NAS and plug it into your router and share on your network as a media drive. I've had this setup in my house for years and it serves three shields and works perfectly. This also makes adding/deleting or editing my files super easy as I can access it from al my computers.

I do have an 8 bay Synology NAS for my media. Its the thumbnails and cache Id like storing on the USB, the 12gb I have internal is almost gone.
My 11 year old fanless HTPC just gave up, and I'm experimenting with the Shield rather than build a new PC (especially as how expensive parts currently are)
There's a lot I like about the Shield, but the freezing and potential for running out of storage due to not having control is going against it.

Got ya. i have my HD partitioned into tv and movies, and store all the files associated with those files in those folders. Nice and clean, and also if one of my shields die, i can easily rescan my librairies. https://imgur.com/a/TEuOvPp

It's a nice and clean 20+ year collection, with posters, actor images, disc and fanart stored in multiple Movie / TV Show folders split across 8 22tb drives. No Raid, my old 5 bay (16tb drives) is my backup and only the rare stuff.
But as its a 20+ year collection, there are a lot of media files and Kodi loves to store copies locally when scanning in.
I'll try the Kodi forums to see if they can help, its frustrating that all I want to do is paste a text file into one location, and I cannot.

I recommend installing a Kodi maintenance addon such as Open Wizard. You probably have several gigs of movie and show thumbnails in a file the Shield won't let you access but Open Wizard will let you delete them when you run maintenance. You can also set it to clean house every time you start Kodi.
