In The News Digital Forensics Corp. finally sued by FTC

The FTC sued Digital Forensics Corporation, related companies and owner Dmitry Belkin over services sold to people facing sextortion. According to the complaint, the defendants used victims’ fears to sell packages costing $1,499 to $20,000, then pressured them to pay thousands more for additional protection.

The FTC alleges that much of the promised work was never done, investigative reports contained fabricated information, and contractual refund promises weren’t honored. It also accuses the defendants of suppressing criticism and manufacturing positive reviews, and says consumers paid at least $60 million between February 2023 and July 2026. The complaint alleges six claims:

  • Count I: Misrepresentations Regarding Defendants’ Sextortion Assistance Services. Making false promises about stopping sextortion, investigating attackers, contacting law enforcement, monitoring accounts and providing refunds
  • Count II: Deceptive Consumer Reviews. Presenting fabricated, paid or coerced positive reviews as genuine accounts of customers’ experiences
  • Count III: Deceptive Telemarketing Calls in Violation of the TSR. Making misleading claims about the services and refunds during telephone sales calls
  • Count IV: Use of False, Fictitious, or Fraudulent Statements to Obtain or Attempt to Obtain, or Cause to Be Disclosed or Attempt to Cause to Be Disclosed, Customer Information of a Financial Institution. Using false service promises to obtain customers’ bank-account and payment-card information, in violation of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act
  • Count V: Writing or Creating Fake or False Consumer Reviews and Testimonials. Creating reviews that falsely represented that the purported reviewers existed
  • Count VI: Purchasing Fake or False Consumer Reviews. Buying reviews the defendants knew or should have known misrepresented whether the reviewers existed or had experience with the services

The FTC is asking the court to stop the alleged practices, freeze assets, put a receiver in charge of the businesses and order financial relief for consumers. Depending on how the case ends, that could include refunds or cancellation of contracts with outstanding payments. The complaint alone doesn’t mean the companies are closing for good or that everyone will get their money back, but it puts both the way they operate and the money they collected under scrutiny.

New victims: Please read first

1.7k Upvotes

If you're reading this, you're probably a recent victim of Sextortion and scared out of your mind.

First, take a deep breath…

Hopefully, this sub will be a safe place for you to share your experience and get advice from people that have already gone through what you have.

This post in NOT intended to be the "be-all, end-all" source of information. I'm writing this as an intro to being sextorted. That is all.

There is a really great analysis of our sub available here. It has all kinds of in-depth analysis of the scam, including how often leaks occur. I highly recommend you check it out.

Let me state this up front: Do NOT give into the blackmailer's demands! Do not pay them money, they will only ask for more. Do not give them more nudes (typical if you're female) if that's what they're asking for. They will use that to increase their leverage and they will NOT stop.

Do not negotiate. There is not point. You cannot trust anything they say. The best thing to do is cease all communication. In fact, removing any way for them to communicate with you is the best course of action. Disable/delete your account, if necessary.

Also, Reddit and is no substitute for professional help (i.e. a mental health expert). If you are feeling suicidal, please, seek immediate help (911, or your countries equivalent, and they will be able to get you help).

Yes, we do recommend that you contact your local law enforcement. They might not be able to help, and they may not be needed, but you should have them on your side just in case things go sideways. If you are underage, do not worry about getting into trouble. The police will not go after you for sending pics/videos as a minor. I hear this quite often from young victims. Don't worry about it.

I recommend you file a complaint with https://ic3.gov. Also, there is a new tool that might help keep your pics/videos from being shared: https://StopNCII.org. If you are a minor, a similar service is available at https://takeitdown.ncmec.org. If you from the UK, you can try https://revengepornhelpline.org.uk.

For underage victims, the InHope project has an extensive list of hotlines for all over the world: https://www.inhope.org/EN#hotlineReferral

If your scammer is from the Philippines (which many are), you could try filing a complaint at https://acg.pnp.gov.ph/eComplaint/.

My last piece of advice is to talk to someone you know and trust. Trying to deal with this on your own is very difficult. Talking to someone will most certainly help you process the trauma and remove the feelings of isolation. Trust me.

Beware of "recovery scammers". These are the worst of humanity. They take advantage of you in your lowest, most desperate moment, by promising that they can "hack" the scammer's device to delete the pics/videos. They can't, and they won't. They will just take your money and do nothing. The last thing you need is to make things worse by putting your faith in "some dude on Instagram". We see them posting and commenting in the sub all the time, so you need to keep your guard up. If you are unsure, feel free to post the details on what they are proposing, before giving them anything. Oftentimes, their accounts are shadowbanned, which means they cannot initiate a chat or DM you, so they will ask you to chat/DM them first. This is a serious red flag. If in doubt, reach out to the sub or the mods. We'll help sort things out.

!!!!WARNING!!!!: Do NOT give anyone the contact information of your scammer (even if they promise to help)!!! They might just get in contact with them, get them to share your pics/videos, and then turn around and blackmail you as well. It's happened...just don't do it.

Advice for moving on after two months? I'm still paranoid :(

Hello. So yeah I got sextorted two months ago, likely by a person many of you have gotten extorted by as well based on screenshots of threats that I've seen floating around. I've moved on a lot and am almost there but I keep getting scared thinking that the perpetrators are continuing to use my photos (one had my face in it), to scam other people.

I know I was the victim, but I just have this recurring terror of being wrongfully arrested for images of myself that the sextortion perpetrator is sending around the internet pretending to be me. Has anyone thought of this before? Is there anything I can do to try and mitigate this?

I was largely dismissive of an IC3 FBI report before because people said it didn't really do anything, but I'm thinking maybe if I submit one and screenshot the reference number or whatever then that can help document this incident if it comes down to that?

Or am I just thinking about all of this too much and it'll all be okay regardless? Idk. Any advice helps!

BF got hacked by a scammer and found explicit content of me and him and are sextorting us now

so we were napping and i got a screen recording notification from snapchat from my bfs account. He recorded nude images and videos of us and are now trying to get us to pay him money threatening to send them to our friends and family and already sent photos of my bf to his friends. Before police came my bf paid the guy a little bit which was a bad move but the police said they can’t do anything because the person identified as being in the UK. We decided to stop interacting with him and he is hacking onto all my bfs old social media and email accounts. He is harassing us like crazy for money and sending threats. We don’t know what to do we deleted all socials and are laying low for the time being ( i don’t want him to find my socials too) so I just don’t know what to do is there any real legal action to be taken? How to get him to stop and not send the stuff to our families. I’ve never heard of someone doing sextortion by hacking into someone’s account before it makes it much more difficult to stop him as he is able to hack into the accounts, we already fortified all our other accounts and stuff he hasn’t hacked into.

Male victim I paid $550 and then started ignoring. It works.

• Upvotes

Had this happen to me last night. Not a proud moment and I’m lucky to be still on my parents payroll when I need essentials like food. However, they drained my bank and now I have nothing. Stopped messaging after giving them my $550 and they haven’t said shit.

Male victim I’m just generally terrified

It happened a couple weeks ago and ever since I’ve just been so terrified. They have tried contacting me on so many things and I’ve deleted accounts and changed passwords but I’m still just terrified. Anytime it happens or I get a notification that I wasn’t expecting I just completely shut down and have a panic attack. I always smell blood in my nose and my chest tightens unlike any other panic attack I ever have, its like some sort of punishment or mocking joke. I can’t even talk to strangers anymore because I’m so terrified of even the slightest chance that it’s them.
I’m so terrified that it will be leaked all the time. I sometimes think that I’m not liked enough that everyone will either believe what they are trying to say about me or find it funny enough to hold it over me forever. People I have talked to about it have said how it is unlikely that it will be leaked but I’m still terrified. I always think that I wouldn’t know what to do if it did happen but in reality I know exactly what I would do, I would kms if it happened and that’s part of what scares me so much.

Have you ever use stopNCII.org?

I just heard about this platform, it says that it can help you take down your intimate photo thats been posted without consent, and it intrigued me. Have anyone tried this platform? Or maybe your friends or anyone you know? Is something like this is possible to do?

Male victim Will they follow through?

So i met this (scamming) woman from the Philippines on a dating site called okcupid and after talking for a while she asked to move to insta which I did then I couldn't message her after following so she gave me her WhatsApp (its so obvious in retrospect), and after talking and sexting a bit she wanted to facetime with each other musturbating and we did but I was sent a screen recording of myself after with pictures of all my insta followers and got a call from some guy saying to pay €1000 or else they will send the video to all my followers. Of course I blocked, I dont have many followers anyway and theyre all close friends so I just sent most of them a message explaining the situation and they were grand and a few found it funny which I played into because I dont really gaf, but they told me they haven't received anything and im wondering if they will actually follow through on it or not.

I was on a masturbation cam site for the first time ever and I’m scared I’m going to get sextorted

I didn’t show my face or anything, it was just using my web camera and I was only on there for a couple of minutes. Am I going to be okay?

Do u guys think i’m safe

I was sextorted over a week ago and haven’t heard anything from anyone if they actually released the pictures. I mean they didn’t have my socials but knew my name phone number and face. I think they didn’t have anyone to send them but I’ve still been stressed out. I thought over a week of silence could indicate that I’m pretty safe, but I would like another opinion.

Male victim Sextorted by a Philippine

I got sextorted last night and I paid them 200e because they threatened me to send them to my followers on Instagram because my profile was public and after arguing and begging they made it to 200e and they showed me a screen recording of deleting my photos and videos from their galary and from their WhatsApp media didn't show deleting from the deleted files but after receiving the amount they asked me to block them. I'm suspicious about they'll be back and ask for more money since I already paid them. What do I do now? Do you guys think they will be back?

Male victim Emergency!

I've just been the victim of sextortion and they want me to pay $1500 in crypto to delete the screen recording of me. How do I tell if they're just bluffing or if they'll actually do it

The video doesn't have anything identifying on.my end, but I'm really scared. Having a fucking panic attack. They had my parents numbers and everything. Idk how they got that. Nothing was synced on Whatsapp. I don't understand

I'm fucking terrified

Uncertainty and fear

Hello. I am awfully terrified that in the future NSFW videos of me will surface. Now. Do I have any evidence of this? No. I am currently trying to recover from a porn addiction right now and I am afraid that somehow somebody may have recorded me on my samsung camera. I was frankly a degen while watching porn, that shit is horrible. This summer was particularly awful and i spent many hours indulging in this shit, and I downloaded many, many photos from various porn sites and a few videos, but I can't remember from which one (not that it really matters). I am deeply ashamed of being like this and now I have this growing fear that if in some way somebody recorded me like that, my life would be frankly fucked, I probably couldnt handle people around me knowing that I'm a bit of a weirdo when watching porn. I'd definitely get made fun of, that's for certain. I have gotten sextorted 4 years ago, where I had an infostealer snatch all of my passwords on my pc. Got that sorted out, but it may have planted this fear of getting sextorted once more with actual video footage of... you know what. I cant really calm down currently, it's turning me into a nervous wreck and I don't know what will happen. I constantly do malwarebytes scans but I never find anything, it is just an irrational fear. Could I still get sextorted because of those photos and videos I downloaded? I hope not, I hope nobody watched me through my phone camera. I didn't find any evidence that I was being spied on, but i am just afraid that somebody did when I was binging porn. That is the main thing that is bugging me. Thanks.

Male victim My experience (happened twice)

A few months ago I fell victim to a sextortion scam. I caved and in fact did give them money, it was highly embarrassing for a time after it happened, but it’s since been resolved. Tonight as I write this it happened again BUT, I did not give them any amount of my time and recognized it immediately, blocking them and deleting whatever accounts they knew of. All this to say, learn from me. To kind of kick myself in the shin about it, you can in fact run into this type of thing twice, but at least I was smart this time and just immediately left it, and I’m glad I saw the signs, even if it was a bit too late.

Whoever these scammers are truly have no life and are huge losers, and according to several things I’ve looked up, on here and other avenues, they do not usually follow through. It is scary knowing some malicious evil person has intimate and private images of you, but most likely and very probably absolutely nothing will happen with this. For anyone who has or is going through this (to mirror advice given on this sub) DO NOT INTERACT OR GIVE THEM MONEY. Block, report and move on and don’t use the apps the contacted you on any further (telegram, zangi, etc). Believe me, it is horrific to see the threats and you immediately feel like puking. Take the time, slow yourself down and breathe. Block them immediately and even report their accounts, but considering this is an extra step that maybe in the adrenaline you’d forget, just blocking is fine. Make sure they don’t have your phone number and if they do repeat blocking and reporting as spam in your messages.

I give all of this advice out to show that yes, sadly, one can be dumb enough to almost fall for this trick twice. It most certainly won’t happen again, as you will learn to spot these things.

My personal advice: avoid Omegle-type websites. I haven’t really seen anything like this posted in this sub, but these Omegle/Chat Roulette style sites are breeding grounds for these scammers. Set up proper spam filters on other socials (instagram, discord, facebook etc whatever you use really). If any of these accounts break through the spam block and report like I mentioned before.

It’s scary, really scary, I know the feeling too well now. It’s going to be okay. Even if you send them money, you can still fix it, like getting the money back and reporting fraud and such. Just stay vigilant! And don’t get too stressed about it.

And to anyone who is going through this right now and needs answers, I’m so sorry.

My personal bullet points for this (for someone struggling in this situation now):
DO NOT SEND MONEY (if you have or are going to DO NOT. They will not stop asking once you know they’re willing)
BLOCK THEM
Do not use Omegle/Chat Roulette (random cam) types of websites.
If you keep getting pestered by these vermin, KEEP BLOCKING! Stay strong!

Thanks for reading this somewhat long post, I hope someone can find it useful.

Male victim Recent victim of sextorrtion

I was recently hit with this scam on Monday and it scared the shit out of me so did unfortunately end up giving them bitcoin, and they keep demanding more. I told them I can pay Friday.
They are threatening to send the pictures to all my friends on instagram and I’m so I concerned that I deleted my account. I just want reassurance that I’m in the clear to block them without any repercussions.

Update: just blocked them on telegram and they just sent me a text with the same threat.
I immediately deleted and reported as spam.
This is some spooky shit. I’m kinda scared and nervous.

Follow Up After 12 days

As you see in the title it's been 12 days since it happened and I'd like some advice because i feel much better now and if somebody had a similar experience i would appreciate it so much.

It happened in telegram, and they have:

- my photo, with my face and a weird collage

- In that collage they put my phone number aswell

* they threathened to post that and tell the fbi (i'm not even from the us)

So after that first threatening message i blocked them (so i didn't pay anything, they don't even had time to ask for it. They just said i had to do what they said or they would "ruin my life"). After blocking they called me via whatsapp and i responded with a short "hello?", but hang up immediately before they even respond, and I blocked the number too.

They have my number, but i don't know if they have my socials. Just in case i've had my instagram deactivated for this past 2 weeks and i would like to know if i can activate it again (maybe changing the photo). * It's been always in private and I'm taking privacy in all the other socials very seriously now.

I also blocked unknown numbers from calling in whatsapp, but i think i'd still see the number in the list if they had tried to call me again?

So in this 2 weeks i apparently didnt received anything else, but as i blocked them i'm not sure if they are still trying to contact me. I'm also unsure if they have my socials as i said, but as they are in private, do you think I can activate them already?

I also want to say that blocking immediatelly worked so well for now, and I feel much better than the first days (when I couldn't even sleep), so thank you to all the community in here.

If you have any more recommendations for this next steps i would love to read that.

Thank you so much.

This guy added me in August on Snapchat, I figured that it may have been a scam of some sorts and not rlly sure what we’re trying to gain other than probably nudes. I played along to see what it lead to.

I only gave them my name bc it was my snap username, and I am not a fan of the show as I’ve never actually seen it. I blocked him on everything now, although I was wondering would this have ever lead to sextortion?? I’ve never been a victim to sextortion and didn’t know if it was rare among women, as most cases I see have targetted men.

Theoretically, if I had played along with this scammer for long enough and followed what he told me to do, what would’ve likely happened? Has anyone seen scams like this before? It has lead me to curiousity.

(Also I never sent him pics or a snap of myself to him I have a public profile, I rarely add ppl back but i was curious and bored, he didnt push me in the end tho and said that it was okay if I didn’t want to proceed)

I kept the chats but only screen recorded it today (Oct 15th) before blocking. Snapchat notified him, he immediately viewed me screen recording it in the chat, honestly scary to know that they’re still logged in and that there’s an active predator on the loose.

Stay safe everyone.

Got sextorted, paid them and raised cybercrime complaints to get the money back

I have got sextorted recently from a dating app. She said she is horny at night and wanted to satisfy both of us. I refused a lot, but the scammer pretended so well that it fooled me out and I had to strip down in front of the video call, which clearly put my face and body into limelight. The scammer guy called me and forced me to pay 1 lac, but ended up to giving him 15k. The guy tried to be geniune by screen sharing and deleting all the videos that he took while in the video call. Also deleted the videos from bins. He gave me an advice as if he were a saint and cut the call. I had swiftly raised cyber crime complaint and also had registered disputes to all my UPI transactions. If the money gets refunded back (which more likely will not happen), will the scammer leak my striptease to my family and friends of whom he had threatened to send? I have blocked him and deactivated my instagram. Yet I am paranoid. Should I just wave it off and live freely or still be worried about him in coming back, if my money gets refunded?

Please I need your assistance.

Male victim Boo app sextortion

I'm 18 and i found a match on boo app. We talked and she said she wasn't much active in there and asked for my instagram. Unfortunately i gave it and we talked from there. The girl was from philippines and lied to me she's in the same country as me etc. She teased me, making me horny and i fell for it. She then said we could do more on telegram and we went there, we did a video call and she screen recorded it. Then a guy randomly started talking after they sent screenshots of my followers and threatened to ruin my life etc..."now say send or delete". I blocked them immediately on telegram and instagram without even replying. I regret falling for this and i got anxious. I even deactivated my instagram temporarily. It's been 4 days since then..i still feel worried

PS: I'm still worried if it's safe to reactivate my instagram. The account is still blocked and reported. But they probably still have me in their dms and even if i change my username or pfp, wouldn't it get updated for them aswell?
