Join Game Day threads, so many people want Kubiak gone whenever there’s a minor mistake

His run play calling needs refining, but overall he's been a breath of fresh air compared to what we've gone through the past couple of years.

u/Grymninja Oct 15 '25
The three toss runs to charb for no gain at first and goal at the beginning was really bad idk what the thought process was there. But overall yeah he's our best OC in a while.

u/rip-droptire Oct 15 '25
When will we admit that it's not the play calling and it's not entirely the O-line, it's that Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet are just not that good? They're the only common denominator over the past couple years
12
u/adturnerr Oct 15 '25
I think especially Charbonnet isn't being used correctly, his best game is short yardage/pass plays. Going 3rd and 12 with a run play to Charbonnet isn't using his skills properly

Waldron was much better than Grubb. Still not good but doesn't deserve to be put in the same category as Grubb

Waldron > Grubb. Waldron had the best quick game in 2023 and had a top 10 offense. Grubb’s scheming actually hurt my brain. I didn’t know an NFL play caller could be that inattentive to the details in how to run the ball, how a simple play action is supposed to work, and how you’re supposed to marry the run and pass game. Waldron wasn’t great but at least he understood NFL football.

u/raycraft_io Oct 15 '25
Are we actually discussing Waldron vs Grubb? Not exactly Rushmore of Seattle OCs
3
u/0ut0fTheWilds Oct 15 '25
Because those were the two offensive coordinators who've worked with jsn since he came into the league.

Grubb got worse as the year went on and seemed to refuse to adapt.
1
u/toastedstoker Oct 15 '25
It’s just strange to me since the huskys offense the year before was sooooo damn creative and effective. Had to be the most exciting offense I’d ever watched and I was so excited to bring that to the hawks, I simply do not get what happened and why it didn’t translate
1
u/hoopaholik91 Oct 15 '25
Tbf it's a little bit easier when your QB isn't throwing red zone interceptions and your offensive line isn't worst in the league.

u/Macjeems Oct 15 '25
I like how the top two responses to this are saying the same thing but with the names switched

u/TAULY_D Oct 15 '25
All this without DK as a threat on the other side too. Imagine Horton becomes a guy the next few years I think we have something special brewing.
11
u/the-polite-villain Oct 15 '25
This is what my friends and I have been talkin about... The next few years could be JSN, Horton, mix in a good amount of Barner and Arroyo in there and you have a very very special passing offense.
6
u/Chimie45 Oct 15 '25
Like if we play this right, we have this O for the next 3 years minimum right? Darnold, is through 2027, JSN we'll pick up the 5th year meaning we have him until 2027--tho I expect we might reward him with a contract extension + signing bonus before then. Horton we got for 4 more years, Kupp til 2027 Barner for 3, Arroyo for 4 more... Cross we have through 2026, Zabel for 5 more, Lucas til 2027. Ouzts til 2028.
The only person we really have to worry about is Cross in 2026.
The D right now, our Safeties Emmanwori thru 2028, Love through 2027. Knight and Ernest Jones through 2027. Nwosu, Hall are both 2026. Could use some more help there as Mafe and all the other OLB are all up this year. Our CBs are all due at the end of this year too with Coby Bryant, Riq, Josh Jobe all FAs. Spoon here til 2027 at least.
DL tho, Big Cat through 2026, DLaw through 2027, Reed through 2027, BMurphII thgrough 2028.
Like the O is pretty fucking good right now on lots of rookie deals, pick a RG or C in the early rounds next year, but I think K9 is gone. Just doesn't have the sustainability even when healthy. Requires a lot of snap count, so we prolly need a new RB, which means we'd be able to probably reach on a splashy RB. Either draft or sign a FA.
My wager would be someone like Connor Lew or Jake Slaughter since we're going to be picking in the 25~32 range, and that's about the spot most high end IOL go. Picking up a top end Center makes sense, because most top end DE or CBs are going to go way before that. Maybe a #2 or #3 CB might be available then if the IOL go before.
So basically IOL/CB in the 1st, and whatever we didn't pick there in the second. Then RB/DE in the 3rd/4th, and then best remaining of ILB/LT/CB/LB

u/SvenDia Oct 16 '25
We’ll have plenty of cap space in 2026 with DK, Geno and Lockett’s dead money off the books. We’re paying a significant chunk of their 2025 salaries.
2
u/Chimie45 Oct 16 '25
Oh I'm not worried about that, I'm just saying those are the people we have to worry about in terms of signing. Seattle is always a very very tough sell in the FA market, so its better to bring in people as rookies and resign

I still think they need to grab another WR in this next draft.
1
u/the-polite-villain Oct 15 '25
I'd rather they prioritize OL over WR in the next draft and see how Horton develops.
1
u/Rollerbladinfool Oct 15 '25
I think our draft needs are OL, CB, LB, DE and WR
1
u/the-polite-villain Oct 15 '25
Yeah, that sounds about right. What happened to Knight, he looked full of potential last season...Perhaps Drake Thomas deserves more opportunities, see what he's capable of.
1
u/aka_mank Oct 15 '25
This was my biggest fear - could he perform against the #1 CBs DK was attracting.
HELL YES HE CAN

Is there an English version of this?

u/tomlinas Oct 15 '25
JSN real gud

u/BRValentine83 Oct 15 '25
I don't need a Jackson Pollock to learn that.. :-)

u/tomlinas Oct 15 '25
Sorry, maybe wrong version of English
JSN tip top, e’s the dog’s bollocks, innit?

And the reason why yards per route run is so high? Seahawks are dead last in pass %, but 5th in total passing yards. JSN is also #2 in the league in target % at 33.1%.
2
u/Searching-man Oct 15 '25
IMO, this is NOT a good chart for us, or really for JSN
leading in "targets per route" just means we're throwing to him A LOT. There's no load balancing, or #2 guy, JSN is just our only real receiver right now.
That's not a good thing. It does feed him monster numbers, though, but it would be preferable to have an offense that could spread the ball out
3
u/easley45isgod Oct 15 '25
Nah, let's just let it happen. If he would just stop getting so damn OPEN! It's a good thing, and if defenses try to overcompensate we have Kupp, Horton, and Barner.

u/SvenDia Oct 16 '25
You gonna tell Sam not to throw to the guy who’s open nearly every play? Great problem to have, IMO.
1
u/Searching-man Oct 16 '25
Of course not, I just wish we were scheming with our tight ends better so "force it to JSN every play" isn't the only thing we've got.
2
1
u/TruthDifficult9971 Oct 16 '25
definitely not forcing him the ball at all other than the first game against the niners. it’s not forcing it if he’s open every damn play 🤣

u/Icy_Radish_5995 Oct 15 '25
I love that we got our very own superstar WR. I love our QB/ WR duo….i just love this damn team.

A little scary... how reliant we are on JSN. He's a stud, but we have to keep him healthy.
1
u/Playful-Opportunity5 Oct 15 '25
This graph screams, "UNSUSTAINABLE!!!" but it's still been a blast to watch.
1
u/goodolarchie Oct 15 '25
Per route run. So... eligible snaps? I love the outlier status, I'm just trying to understand the metrics. It looks to me like utilization vs production efficiency. The chart to me implies he's vastly more utilized and thusly more productive than other receivers. Am I reading this right?
1
u/Jolly_Caramel_4961 Oct 15 '25
Can someone explain the meaning of this metric to me like I’m a 15 year old that understands the fundamentals of football?
1
u/Dabellator Oct 15 '25
They can't keep this up though, right? He has to fall back towards the median at some point, no?
