It's here. The Official Discord channel for r/sandiegan.
We've gotten this request a lot, and I think it's finally time to take it seriously. At least 3–5 people have clamored for this, so we're giving it a shot.
The official r/SanDiegan discord server is finally here.
Some caveats:
- we have never moderated a discord server before, so you're going to be there to see us iron everything out in real time. we'll be attentive to requests, suggestions, and overall helpful attitudes.
- we have day jobs
- be aware that you may inadvertently reveal your identity if you already are on a different discord server using your real name
Our goal is to set up a community in the same way we have set up the r/SanDiegan community. Everyone is welcome, and we moderate with a heavy hand and according to our own discretion at all times. Truly lovely communities only thrive when you separate the wheat from the chaff. We've spent years cutting chaff from this subreddit, and I am personally really proud of how lovely this place has become.
We want this discord server to be a place to chat with other San Diegans about sports, local bars, adult league activities, community events, and so on.
Things that we will not tolerate:
- bigotry of any kind
- "I'm just asking questions, man" — you know the answer, you're just an asshole. You all know the type
- Behavior that is detrimental to the community at large
- stop posting your boring ass traffic violations, seriously
These rules are vague by design. Moderating is subject to individual discretion, and if you join the discord server, you are just going to have to trust that the way we moderate r/SanDiegan will serve a discord community as well as it has served this subreddit. There are no bright lines, there is only our own judgment in what is and is not okay (which is how things work here, already).
Let's all give this a shot. I hope you'll all join the server and fucking behave yourselves.
JOIN, HEATHENS: https://discord.gg/tRJUkw6h9h
**updated link to never expire

On Politics
Whenever certain discussions come up we end up with a mix of locals that genuinely want to talk about what's going on. Sometimes passionately. Sometimes ill informed. Sometimes full of information. Sometimes dem. Sometimes republican. Sometimes for the free people's state of east county. Sometimes from the sovereign bros of PB.
Whatever. You get the picture. Our local politics and ideas for what to do are pretty diverse.
As a moderator though I have noticed that we get a solid influx of accounts for some subjects. They tend to have a short post history in this subreddit and a deleted history or a history that hasn't been on reddit in years. Likely because they are purchased accounts. They show up to shit stir in political discussions.
I understand some of you delete your account histories for various reasons or want to use an alt to discuss politics. But the easiest thing to do as a moderator seeing an inflammatory comment in a highly charged political discussion from an account that looks incredibly suspect is to remove the comment and ban the user. We don't really want to put in too much effort beyond that. This isn't a paid gig.
Anyway - I want to give people a heads up in case there's people that might reconsider participating in a certain way with an account they haven't used in months/years.

Announcement Update On Wellgreens
Hey y’all!
I made the post the other day about avoiding Wellgreens Dispensary (I worked specifically at the one in Lemon Grove) and now as of 10/14/2026, they still don’t want to pay me the $4,599.20 that I am owed. I originally left a review on their Google page stating that they owed me this money along with a screenshot from the Labor Commissioners Office that states that as well. They replied to my review and told me to contact them via their support email. It’s been days since that and I have sent multiple emails and not only have they not replied, they have also since deleted the Google review along with their statement. I keep leaving reviews from new Google accounts and they keep deleting them. This place is super shady and only cares about how they are viewed publicly.
They think they can get rid of me easily but I won’t stop until they pay me what is owed. I am so tired of cooperations thinking they can screw over their employees and I won’t be one of them.

Local News First Comprehensive Update to Balboa Park Master Plan Since 1989 Now in the Works
San Diego is updating the long-term plan for 1,200-acre Balboa Park for the first time in over 35 years, with completion expected in 2028. The update will set priorities for aging infrastructure, preserve the park's historic and cultural assets, and explore ways to fund its upkeep. Residents can take a short initial survey now at PlanBalboaPark.org.
The City will release a Public Engagement Plan in late November and seek feedback on it from the Balboa Park Committee before engagement begins. Planning firm WRT Planning + Design is assisting, funded by grants from Caltrans, SANDAG and the Prebys Foundation.

Local News CPUC and SDGE rate increase request - public hearing in Santee in Novemeber
Many of us have seen posts here about SDGE and the issues surrounding the company, as well as the frustration these issues have caused. If you haven’t heard yet, the CPUC is holding a public hearing on November 10 at Santee City Hall to consider SDGE's proposed general rate increase for 2028. There are two sessions, at 2 pm and 6 pm. You can attend in person or submit a comment online: https://apps.cpuc.ca.gov/apex/f?p=401:65::::RP,57,RIR:P5_PROCEEDING_SELECT:A2606015
If you’re concerned about SDGE’s profits coming at the expense of our community, I encourage you to do both. Let’s make sure SDGE hears from our community: no more rate hikes. I volunteer with the organization linked below, which is working to help San Diego move toward public power. Please take a look at its page about the November CPUC hearing:

Local News City of San Diego begins issuing citations under new e-bike safety ordinance
A 60-day grace period has ended, and now, San Diego police can issue citations to young riders who violate the city’s e-bike safety laws.
The ordinance, which took effect in August 2026, sets a minimum age of 12 to ride Class 1 and Class 2 e-bikes. Citations can be issued starting Tuesday, Oct. 13, with a $25 fine for violations.
City Councilmember Raul Campillo, who helped advance the city's e-bike laws, said the fine amount was set by state law and is intended to hold riders accountable without placing an excessive financial burden on families.
“This is a pilot program. It’s a first of its kind,” Campillo said. "The $25 was what the state law allows us to actually charge for one of these tickets, partly because we don't want to be incredibly punitive towards families."
In some cases, cited riders can complete a free, state-approved Online Electric Bicycle Safety & Training Course, instead of paying the $25 fine.
“Education is always the best solution to problems,” Campillo said.
The pilot program will help the city collect data on citations and crashes to evaluate whether the regulations are improving safety. Councilmember Campillo hopes the effort will help reduce serious injuries among young riders.
He pointed to data from Rady Children’s Hospital, which reported a 1,770% increase in e-bike injuries in San Diego County since 2022. Many of the injured riders were reported to be between 13 and 14 years old, according to the hospital.
The report continues inside the link.

Trying to Return Keys Dropped in PB
Hello,
Not sure if this is the right place but if you were on an ebike today (10/14/26) on Bond St in PB, you dropped your keys. I tried to chase after you but you had already rounded the corner and disappeared. If the keys in the photo are yours, message me so I can return them to you.

Anyone know when Dolly Parton Imagination Library is actually coming to SD?
Soon after she died, it was announced that it would be coming to our area in partnership with the Dr Seuss foundation. Anyone know approximately when it’ll be up and running?

Zoo route
Hi!
Does anyone have a favorite route they take at the San Diego Zoo?! We are visiting next week on a weekday. At our local zoo we definitely have a regular route that we favor so just curious. Isn’t there also a big hill to walk up somewhere? Any way to avoid going up it and just going down it?
I read to take the sky thing to the back of the park and then make your way forward but that won’t work for us because we have 2 littles and need the double stroller which can’t go on.
We plan to arrive at opening and are spending all day there or until the kids meltdown whichever comes first haha, and we want to hit the popular stuff but ok skipping smaller stuff.
Would like to prioritize:
Pandas
Elephants
Tigers
Koalas
Polar Bears
Hippos
Camel
Otters

sd.streetsblog.orgSan Diego deserves the best airport rail connection, not just the cheapest. SANDAG’s study understates the elevated automated people mover’s advantages in speed, frequency and cost per mile of new track.

Local News UC San Diego got rid of the SAT in admissions. It may be on its way back!
Thousands of UC professors say their students are absolutely not ready for college and blame the decision to cut the SAT. Now UC leaders are re-examining what, if anything, the system should do about the standardized tests the UC scrapped six years ago. Early this summer, roughly 3,000 current and former UC professors launched a campaign via two signed open letters to reinstate standardized tests in admissions. They say more of their students demonstrate weak math and writing skills, and the SAT ban means the system is not doing all it can to screen out students who cannot handle the rigors of the UC. Whether the SAT should return is an unsettled question for now, but UC leaders have asked a committee of academics to issue a detailed report on the system’s use of the standardized tests by Feb. 12, 2027. Then the UC Academic Senate will propose recommendations by June to the UC Board of Regents, which has final say on requiring the SAT. It is not clear if the board will then pursue a vote on whether to reinstate an admissions test requirement.
