Highlight Patrick Bailey ties the game!
Seriously, this dude is on fire! (Why are we supposed to not like him again?)

Why do we need 10 of the same post every time someone who used to be on the team does well or poorly

What else you gonna cheer for? Certainly nothing that’s current with the Giants.

Brewers are the obvious team to get behind, but in the AL I’m more down with Tampa.

Where are the mods? Why do we need 6 different posts about Patrick Bailey?
I'm not against Bailey but one thread would do

I normally would agree, but I also love Patrick Bailey and it’s not like there’s SF Giants news going on right now lol
GIVE ME 100 BAILEY POSTS!!!

I don't hate Bailey.
Also if you think about the pride 4, Bailey might have made it #5

Ah yes, the ol "former Giant had a good game today, we were idiots to let him go" post
Joey Bart goes 2-5 with a double in Pittsburgh, Dom Smith hits a walkoff homer for the Braves, suddenly they are both stud hitters we allowed to walk for no reason.

Dom Smith just didn’t have a position available with Devers and Eldridge around, I gladly would have had Dom Smith back for the start of this past season

MLB created a whole position for an offensive position, why not one for defensive players.

Who doesn't like Patrick Bailey?
I'm happy he's not our catcher, but I like the dude and am happy to see him succeed...

Bailey is trash. A couple decent games won’t change the fact he’s a .220 lifetime hitter. And hit .146 for us before we dumped him to Cleveland. If it wasn’t for his glove, he’d be bagging groceries.

Bailey clearly isn’t trash. A gold glove catcher will always have value especially with a franchise that’s not inept like SF.

Bailey clearly isn’t trash.
Fans who couldn't run the bases without barfing but describe players who not only make it to the big leagues but also stick there as "trash" or whatever are telling us more about themselves than about the players.

u/BamaBoy2002 28 Posey 2d ago
Exactly. Cleveland clearly saw something in value and now he’s shining in the biggest moment. But nevermind some guy on Reddit on his couch says he’s trash so there’s that lol

I'm not on my couch -- I'm in my barstool, sipping a Molly Dooker Shiraz 2023, at home, with the expanse of Hyde Park behind me!

Well sure. A good team doesn’t need him to hit. We needed him to hit and all he did was strike out looking half the time. So you’re right about us being inept, but I know what trash looks like when I see it.

u/BamaBoy2002 28 Posey 2d ago
Well that trash was 2-4 with a HR in the ALCS tonight. Batting a .368 in the postseason.
Maybe this is Buster Posey I’m talking to which would make sense.

10.3 WAR over three seasons before 2026 for the Giants, best defensive player in MLB, over 26% of his home runs have been walk offs. Only player in MLB history to have a walk over inside the park home run and a walk off grand slam in the same season. And he did it against the Phillies and Dodgers. He’s got the clutch gene and it’s been show cases in the post season.

Bailey isnt trash and Cleveland seems to have figured out how to use him much better than we have. His hitting has been consistently better (not great, but like good enough you take it with his defense), and he has the clutch gene. Id still have traded him with how things went, but calling him trash is insane

Also a lot of his value that he did have came from pitch framing, which was very useful until ABS started and is increasingly removing that source of value
2
u/BamaBoy2002 28 Posey 2d ago
That value is still there a batter can’t just challenge every pitch. Framing is still very much a thing and Bailey is still one of the best.

u/raobuntu 1d ago
I think he stole something like 50 strikes in the first month of the season that went unchallenged. It's insane.

which was very useful until ABS started and is increasingly removing that source of value
The use of the challenge system largely preserves pitch framing due to the limited number of failed challenges. That was one of the reasons it was more popular in the minors and why the players assoc. dropped their objections to ABS after MLB said they would go with the challenge system.

He was a polarizing player for the Giants, likely because of his bat, not his defense. I liked him. I think the pitchers in general really liked him. However, he was another bat in the lineup with a high strikeout rate. If the Giants had had more hitters in the lineup in 2025 whose strikeout rate wasn't near 30%, Bailey's bat wouldn't have been as big of a deal.

Good for Bailey. BUT...toward the end of his tenure with the Giants, the guy was mailing it in.
He didn't care; he had given up.
A good example was Ryan Walker's blown save before the team first sent him to Triple-A. He threw 13 consecutive sliders before giving up a walk off.
Patrick Bailey calls the pitches, but when asked about it, Walker's reply, "I'm not much of a shaker..."

One thing that has always been true about Patrick Bailey is that he rises to the occasion in big moments...but when it's not a big moment, his product drops off significantly, too.
He is continuing to show it now that he's got the chance to be in some of his biggest moments yet.
