Where to take a seat
Pacing yourself and taking breaks are vital to avoiding flair ups at SDCC. Chairs outside of panel rooms are in short supply. Having a portable stool with you can be a lifesaver. But inevitably, a staffer will come up and say you can't sit there. This post is to avoid that.
The Show Floor
Do not stop and sit unless it's a medical emergency. There are three "lounge" areas near the cafes. Tables and chairs are provided, but they're always full. Lines are always dynamic and you can't sit down.
The Lobby
Lobby A has Deaf & Disabled Services. They have an area with chairs chere you can chill. Seats fill up, so don't count on it. The rest of the lobby is a no go. Fire marshalls make sure it's clear in case of evacuation.
The Terrace
Feel free to sit as long as you'd like. The sun will make sure you don't sit for too long.
The Upper Level
Bear with me. Take a look at the pic. I'll explain it from left to right.
- The halls around rooms 21-33 are pretty chill after the morning rush. Sit against the outside edge and you shouldn't have an issue.
- You can sit outside of Ballroom 20 directly across from the Sail Pavilion. Do not block the doors.
- In the Sails Pavilion, you can sit in the lounge area with the tables. Lines here are usually pretty static and you can sit.
- Lobby 6, no sitting allowed.
-The halls adjacent to Rooms 1 through 6 are lines that move in chunks. Only sit if you're in a line that isn't moving.
That's a lot of restrictions. Personally, the best place to sit is in a panel room. 21-33 usually aren't full and you can walk right in.

Thank you very much for this. I have a lot of anxiety about being able to sit. Standing still is hard for me after 5 minutes, I’m unable to get up and down off the floor, and I’m worried that if I use a collapsible stool I won’t be able to stand up.
I do plan to spend most if my time in the smaller oanel rooms.
I have an industry pass - does anyone know what the Industry Professionals lounge is like for seating?
Update: Just saw that someone else had mentioned the chairs and tables in the Professional lounge, so that seems like a useful option.

Justice for the seats in the Mezzanine! I am sad they took away those tables and chairs.

If you have a professional badge, there is a professional lounge available that has tables and chairs and (sometimes) lemonade and water. I didn’t know about this until my third sdcc so I like to point it out. If you have a friend with a professional badge, they should be able to bring you in.
For the tables in the sails pavilion and around the cafes on the floor, they are almost always full but people are always open to you grabbing an open seat if you find one. If people have things piled on a seat or there’s one lonely seat between two groups, politely ask if you can have the seat and I’ve never been turned down. It’s nice if you just need a minute while you’re on the floor.
