Why need a team of people working when you can have a couple of prompt typers.

36

u/RainmakerLTU 1d ago

I guess the DLC's released paid well and quick, so time to start packing and move on to next project.

The publisher is doing what they know best, look at their previous projects.

2

u/Content-Log-3332 16h ago

if i may ask, what happend to the previous projects?

6

u/Step_Citizen 15h ago

mainly what they're doing here, layoffs and DLC pump n dumps.

1

u/Cortillian 2h ago

Source?

0

u/Step_Citizen 2h ago

Go read the statement shared from the OP. There's your "source" regarding layoffs. DLC pump n dumps source? Two fold answer here so grab your britches: It doesn't take a genius to see how things have declined even further since SplashDamage acquired Gamepires with the DLC rollouts. Also, it takes literally seconds to find the information online regarding SplashDamages past acquisitions and how those were handled also.

Why use lot work when little work do job

27

u/AcroFPV 21h ago

Time to reverse engineer SCUM and include mod support.

17

u/overtoke 1d ago

the skins team and trailer team is probably like "whew"

12

u/PracticalMusician631 16h ago

Here it comes. Game hasn't got long left.

136

u/EL-HEARTH 1d ago

Good thing i noticed this game go to shit long ago. Sorry to who still plays

53

u/v3gas21 1d ago

I see the downvotes and gave you an upvote...the game is not what was promised ... its initial launch is better than what we have now ... I'm genuinely baffled by how badly they fumbled this game ....

6

u/RazorSnails 1d ago

What was better about the initial launch? I wasn’t playing it back then.

23

u/v3gas21 1d ago

Birds, animals also were not random spawns; you had realistic hair growth, the vehicles were not modular, base building was simpler and so was the crafting menu -- the zombies didn't randomly spawn in either. All this and a larger player base made this game a better DayZ experience.

13

u/OhMyWording 22h ago

it was never a "better dayz". PvP was was so bad it was borderline unplayable. Rubberbanding and Desync were ever-present. There wasn't a single instance in scum's history where it was a better dayz experience or had a bigger playerbase ( that one is factually false )..

7

u/StabbyMcStomp 22h ago

was borderline unplayable

It was fully unplayable.. say what ya want about puppets and animals but they lagged the whole server to shit, all that desync went away as soon as they made those changes and player counts could go up.

8

u/StabbyMcStomp 22h ago edited 15h ago

Basebuilding didnt exist, the devs added prob thousands of player suggested things into the game, basebuilding was the first thing strongarmed in lol people remembering what they want about the early days.

Vehicles were also copy paste assets people cried about until they made their own vehicles from scratch but let's throw it in their face now lol as well birds didn't exist then either..

2

u/Angylika 19h ago

There were no vehicles on initial beta release in 2018. Cooking was terrible. The game was a shadow of what it is now.

0

u/StabbyMcStomp 15h ago

The real answer is absolutely nothing was better back then except puppet mechanics from a visual pov.. the puppets caused unplayable lag tho so... not so great

5

u/Heavy_Progress_7047 15h ago

It surprises me with all the evidence against you over the last couple years and you still sit here and defend scum like it's this fantastic game. It was a game with promise, it was a game that originally had aspirations and goals. It had communication that was REAL communication. It was better earlier. It's a majority consensus that it was better.

Since then, they have been bought out twice, removed over a dozen features to replace them in a worse state or behind a paywall, and they have tried to milk over 150$ cad from players for a 30$ game in dlcs in a span of 3 years. Everything, and I mean everything they have added in this span has needed 3 patches to be fixed at minimum, while adding a dozen new issues that sit in standing for weeks to months before being addressed. They have laid off staff from the original developers twice, and you still sit here and defend them like they are a good company? For a game that's been in a borderline terrible state for half a decade? And now they are downsizing and basically slashing half of who is left, because the game doesn't perform and is a money pit from their decisions. Because they refuse to listen to any public feedback until the absolute last possible minute.

Steam db states an average playerbase of 15k or so on at any time. That's less then 25% of player base that even returns to check out an update. Or joined during 1.0 or after a sale. Whatever it may be. Out of the total amount of people who have purchased scum at 30 bucks (average) and bought every single dlc (which is definitely not the case) there are over 550,000 copies sold of scum. And only 15k players at best. In which it's KNOWN AS MUCH AS A THIRD are bots. That's like at worst 10k average players on scum out of 550k.

Dude that's less then 2%........... Scum is dead. And the only players whom play are either new purchases, update checkers, the few PvE community players, or single players. That's it. Get a grip. They bit more then they could chew. Made bad decisions. And the people who actually tried to make scum great dipped a long time ago or got laid off. It's a shell. It's corporate greed. And your a damn pawn.

1

u/Midnight_Rider_629 3h ago

"It surprises me with all the evidence against you over the last couple years and you still sit here and defend scum like it's this fantastic game."

Its a subreddit. He's a mod. He participates. He's doing his job, and his dedication should be applauded, not criticized.

1

u/Step_Citizen 2h ago

If this were Wal-Mart. You'd essentially be defending the manager that everybody hates because they suck at their job.

-2

u/StabbyMcStomp 11h ago

It was a game with promise, it was a game that originally had aspirations and goals. It had communication that was REAL communication. It was better earlier. It's a majority consensus that it was better.

This? lol I did say in another reply there that the promise was there but it was all a massive mess and players agreed, we had a mass exodus of the playerbase then, everyone except about 2k of us stuck around for a good little while, guess everyone was loving it so much they couldnt even dream of playing or something? weird..

The mechanics that were removed that did work better didnt actually work better.. should they have figured them out better? sure but they were not better because the FUCKING GAME WAS NEXT TO UNPLAYABLE lol for years actually it was a lagging fucking mess and every day this sub was spammed with FIX DESYNC< OMG GAME WOULD BE PREFECT IF NOT FOR DESYC PLS PLS PLS

yesh so the ambitious mechanics. all the animals, puppets didnt work well, it wasnt it.. did it work great in single player? sure.. did it work ok in pve? for the most part it was ok.. did it work for the pvp game they sold us? nope.. couldnt have more than 40 players on your server before it tanked to shit...

You can call scum dead all day, people will agree all day but I dont like to agree with things that are factually wrong, its alive until its dead buddy... I have games with less than 1k players Im hoping turn around again one day lol scum aint there yet.. could happen sure but it makes me feel like an ignorant idiot if I join one of these pitchfork mobs with the amount of just plain wrong exaggerated dramatic shit people are saying..

That all being said I am wrong what I said there.. I used an absolute, that almost always makes ya wrong right.. ;) but yeah there were some things technically better at launch lol but half the stuff the guy Im replying to said wasnt even there at launch! get some upvotes anyway tho! reddit only upvotes the truth right? ;)

-2

u/StabbyMcStomp 14h ago edited 14h ago

I'm not reading all that if your first few words are nonsense.. what evidence against what? Show me some evidence lol ill back up just about anything I've said here because I generally only reply to nonsense and drama and lies or exaggerations, I'll wait.

Also what am I defending here? Lol nothing except reality I guess, as usual

No it's because do many of you show your emotions here before trying to learn about the thing you're about to cry about and if someone has a rational take on it or a technical explanation.. get him!!! He's on their side!!! Lol I'm not on splash damages side buddy but no scum was NOTHING like what that guy said it was at launch, infact half that shit didn't exist yet at launch

u/dr_bean_bean_ 14h ago

Take the list of everything they added since idk .5 give or take. Now double that list. That's what was taken away from scum. Most what they took was loved by the community. Most that were added were either not asked or just done wrong. The worst part it's not like we were asking for something that went against the devs dream. These were things we were promised. It's like who ever was making final decisions said dam these people love my ideas. We can't have that let's do the opposite. I gave up around .5 after putting I'd Maybe 8k in 2 different accounts from launch to .4 alone. .5 got weird and I started to drift. Came back .7 and the game was a completely different game going down hill. I'd come back for a day or 2 throughout the update but it's just wasn't scum anymore. Haven't bother since 1.0 period

4

u/oBrendao 1d ago

I have been playing since 2022, it wasnt nearly stable or better than it is right now, i am not giving the credit to splash but to those who worked to make it better. I have bought this in 2019 and asked for my money back, so yeah, it wasnt in a better state at all.

8

u/wooble 1d ago

I just bought it this week 😭

2

u/DeneralVisease 16h ago

sorry, man

my bf and I sometimes reinstall to scratch that itch but it's not the same in any way. they keep screwing up. it sucks because we love this game and it's been a cornerstone in our relationship while long distance.

11

u/Crazy95jack 1d ago

Scum was so much fun on early access release. it was so refreshing to play an early access game that looked and worked so well with multiplayer.

I agree that its direction had many issues. some updates did add good content and others made you not want to play it again.

I hope another team can make a similar game that takes inspiration and keeps it fun to play.

4

u/StabbyMcStomp 22h ago

on early access release.

On EA release it was so laggy you couldnt even stand next to another player, one of you would teleport away back to your real server location a few seconds after you stopped moving lol it was unplayable for pvp and the player numbers soon dropped to below 2k players left playing, some rose tinted memories in this thread lol

It also had no content, people running around with bows and spears logging out in bushes because there was no base building at all.

2

u/Crazy95jack 22h ago

I didn't experience any bugs on release and played multiple 6+ hour sessions. I did stick to official servers. Best part was the airfield hangers and surrounding area.

4

u/StabbyMcStomp 22h ago

lol yeah we made due with hope for the future, it was a lagging mess, go watch some old youtube videos of that launch and around that launch, look at the player count, why did the numbers go from the initial 68k down to LESS than 3k players max per day in like 3 months, far far worse than any modern scum population numbers? because it was so amazing? or maybe some of us have some rose tinted memories.

4

u/OhMyWording 22h ago

"Scum was so much fun on early access release. it was so refreshing to play an early access game that looked and worked so well with multiplayer."

you must have been playing a different SCUM game because the one everyone else was playing was extremely buggy and laggy. Multiplayer worked like crap. You couldn't have 4 people on the screen without rubberbanding, teleporting etc. And no, it wasn't a ping issue ( 10-20ms btw ) . Just a terrible netcode and zero optimization...

2

u/EL-HEARTH 17h ago

I love the game crashing while flying in a plane. Only for me to fall to my death cause my charactwr was last in the sky. Or the hordes that just spawn on you rather than stumbling across them like you should

11

u/wraithztv 1d ago

Sounds like the Into the Wild season didn't do as well as they had hoped. While it was a promising start, we had delays, content requiring mutliple hotfixes (while still having some things still broken), a big snafu with the content creators and the backlash on the huge amount of DLC.

The 6 Oct update previewed a few changes, but will be interesting if they do/develop much after that with the scale down.

I assume the calls for releasing modding will be quite loud now if there is a risk of the devs starting to look like they are letting the project go...

23

u/GoTTi4200 1d ago

We all knew it was dead long before this. RIP ♥️🫡

9

u/Danimalomorph 1d ago

I only hang around here to be in the loop when it gets opened for mods. Sure to fuck it's going to be soon. Surely.

8

u/DudeFilA 1d ago

If they'd done mods years ago it would have been as supported as project zomboid and dayz. Now I doubt there's enough interest left

2

u/DeneralVisease 16h ago

They were too greedy and shall suffer the same fate as all the others that went this route while Skyrim remains relevant and a money generator for the nearly 15th year in a row.

7

u/Left_Preference2646 1d ago

Mmhm, heard that before

7

u/Mechanic1995 1d ago

That really sucks to hear. I hope those that were let go are able to take their talents elsewhere and to a company that will allow them to grow.

8

u/Khurgul 21h ago

5

u/Kerbo1 18h ago

I'm shocked, shocked I tell you!

6

u/_-DD-_ 4h ago

Thats what happen when you have shitty management making shitty decisions.. they wont suffer the loss as the ones have to leave..

If only they were aiming to better the game and releasing actual content the game needs instead of adding what ever crap they are adding in the last years.

4

u/Shoddy_Bet9619 17h ago

Your Team destroyed Scum anyway so...prob best to start over with a new teams as see if you can safe it!!!

4

u/New-Use7319 12h ago

Good, serves them right, it’s an unplayable game. You spend more time lying down regaining stamina than actually playing the game.

5

u/kdraguna 6h ago

The game itself is now trying to survive lol

7

u/AffectionateAd1891 1d ago

Its about time. This game was nothing but a huge disappointment. It completely derailed from the tracks it was originally on.

6

u/EllieKailyss 16h ago

This game has been fucked since before that inventory size update that they instantly reverted because nobody wants to be forced to play Tetris to put things in your pockets.

Mod support could have saved the game, just like it did for DayZ community servers.

3

u/Odd-Surround3169 21h ago

This has been a long long long time coming.

Its better ideas will be used again in other games with a capable development team.

This wasnt however an issue caused by the market or what have you. The amount of errors made on this journey are massive in their scope and hopefully sone lessons were learned.

3

u/ZurdoFTW 17h ago

Time to forget this game.

5

u/phoenixtwo87 4h ago

Game was fun until they reworked the puppet spawning. I quit after that. I’m still pissed they never fixed it.

5

u/blacklabel131 1d ago

Whenever some corpo says some shit like long term sustainability they mean we aren’t happy with making the same amount of money it always needs to be more.

9

u/Shit_Coinnoisseur 1d ago

More like we will be bankrupt in the following year

3

u/CrestedCaraCara 16h ago

They still pursue increasing their own wages year after year when their leadership choices are what killed the game. They don’t lose their jobs, they’ll fire the people who follow direction because they’re collectively taking their raises.

4

u/USASgtNickFury 1d ago

Yes, I have been following the game since concept. Bought early access like a lot of others did. My motivation was single player story.

I had my first glance in 2016 at E3. You caught my eye and it was love at first sight. I walk right up to you and could take my eyes away. Everything you had to say, do, made me want you more. I promised myself I would do whatever I had to keep you in my life forever!

2018! The day was finally here after what seemed like an eternity, I could finally be with you all I wanted too. Nobody would come between us, and you would be there for me forever.

Then like a good relationship going bad, the promises started, like a cheap date telling you, “Oh stick with me for a while and I'll give it all to you". Just play on your private server and pretend you are playing the story. In the meantime here are, ah some comics to hold you over. I promise you will get what coming to you and be so happy.

Then one year slipped into two, then three, then eight. All the time waiting for you to fulfill your promise to me, so many years ago.

Then I woke up this morning to find a note from you, telling you the words I never wanted to hear.

"Dear John, it's been fun, but this relationship just isn't working. We have so many differences and you are always interested in others and not spending time with me like when we first met. I am off to find a better life, with new possibilities. Take care, and all the luck finding what you are looking for.

2

u/_thats-a-bingo_ 1d ago

Yeah, I could have swore I recall a single player story being said it was in the works and being so excited. I hope there’s a mod released that makes this an actual reality. My thought was building the plane with a special stealth component would allow you to finally leave the island, otherwise the plane would be shot out of the sky if you left the wall borders. Finding components for your plane or a special part to get into certain bunkers would be the storyline I assume since there isn’t anywhere on the island you aren’t allowed to get to.

1

u/SuccessfulCap2238 21h ago

Yo.... That's like Stranded Deep.

1

u/_thats-a-bingo_ 20h ago

I just looked at this and yeah, it does kinda sound like that lol. I don’t know where I got it into my head but I thought that’s what the storyline was going to be in Scum single player, along with roaming NPC groups and the ability to stumble upon random simple NPC base encampments. Maybe it was a fever dream lol

2

u/TheBluePriest 1d ago

This sounds like development had officially ended. Am I misreading this or is there extra context I'm missing? Or is it just over?

5

u/bdubz325 1d ago

It says at the end development will continue

6

u/Step_Citizen 1d ago

I guess they still think people are ignorant enough to keep chewing on that carrot hanging from a string. "Development", aka more DLCs!

2

u/Stringbean002 1d ago

Worse thing they did was let themselves get bought out

9

u/OhMyWording 1d ago

they didn't "let themselves" get bought out. They sold out themselves, willingly, for fat cash...

3

u/Step_Citizen 1d ago

BINGO! I remember all the X Posts of them partying after selling out, only for them to delete them when people started calling them out. Never forget. Pepperidge Farms remembers too.

3

u/OhMyWording 22h ago

yeah, exaclty. scum fanbase has a completely false and sort of romantic/idealistic image of who the devs were and what they were doing while working on this game....

in a nutshell, they got really, really lucky that the bunch of suckers bought their product, which they had no idea what to do with and lacked serious vision and knowledge on how to make a successful survival title... in the end they took the money and bailed... wow, what a shocker :D :D

been calling it out since 2019-20 but "I was just hating for no reason" I guess :). This was the most predictable outcome ever. Now the splash damage keeps pumping DLCs until the cash flow stops and the game is going to probably shut down within a year...

3

u/Step_Citizen 22h ago

that's overly optimistic. I'm betting on end of 26/early 27 for that follow up "Well, it's been a journey, but that's all folks!" post.

1

u/StabbyMcStomp 21h ago

Most of a game dev team isn't ceo' kinda positions, most are artists and programmers, hired guns that get cut.

0

u/OhMyWording 20h ago

the core team of 5-6 people or whatever got a FAT check, and very expensive cars afaik ;) ... sure they got some few peasants later on, which stayed through the Jagex transition and then SD..

1

u/StabbyMcStomp 19h ago

Doubt more than just tomi and Leva the cocreators were paid from that but idk, I don't make up drama lol enough real stuff to go around..

2

u/OhMyWording 17h ago

funny, you've been calling me out for "making stuff up" for years and yet I've been correct every time :) I wonder why.....

all that i hope is that the audio engineer is fired, confirm my dream please

1

u/Cash4Duranium 14h ago

Can't do worse than the devs have done so far. Might as well roll the dice on this chaos and see where it goes. Worst case it's still a game I'm no longer interested in playing.

1

u/Refutable_Karma 11h ago

I can't be upset about this. They screwed this game up so bad a few years ago (talking to you horde mechanic) that its been unplayable since b

u/Step_Citizen 2h ago

2/3rds is what's being rumored. Raykit said his inside source gave him that number. Can only say rumor since it's not officially confirmed but I'd honestly trust that rumor before any official "statement" from Gamepires. They've already been caught lying one too many times.

1

u/jodocoiv 1d ago

Instead of this they should make a new map

1

u/HobbitinHyrule 12h ago

-4

u/SpNova1941 1d ago

5

u/SnooOwls1916 1d ago

How many hours have you played?

2

u/Seagya 1d ago

What's the scam?

2

u/Broad_End_5030 1d ago

Amazing how people will call a game a scam and have hundreds, if not thousands of hours in it. Like, you got your moneys worth!

0

u/Seagya 1d ago

I agree with you. To some people it's never enough. I've complained enough of how things have went with this game, but it's far from a scam.

0

u/CraisinTree 1d ago

I bought the game a month ago for about $25 and have maybe 50 hours in (SP only). So yeah, you could argue that I got swindled, but oh well I paid $0.50 an hour for some entertainment and had a good enough time. Compare that to some games that I got in on early access 10 years ago for $20 and have thousands of hours in.

You win some, you lose some, and you learn from everything. I'd never heard of Gamepires before and now I know.

3

u/StabbyMcStomp 22h ago

ou could argue that I got swindled,

In reality? no you couldnt argue that, thats a criminal accusation lol you bought a product with thousands and thousands of reviews, many warning you not to buy it for various reasons, many years and thousands of videos to watch, 2 hours of playtime to test it out yourself, in no way was anyone scammed in fact but especially nobody who bought it recently for a massive discount, modern gamers are super dramatic.

1

u/CraisinTree 21h ago edited 21h ago

I agree with you and think you mistook what I was saying, maybe it was unclear the way I said it. Other's (not me) could argue that I got swindled but I was balancing that against other games that I took a chance on and was rewarded with a great experience.

I throw stuff on my wishlist where it sits for years sometimes and am willing to take a chance on a game here and there. I enjoy exploring so a lot of review stuff doesn't pertain to me. So, I'm not whining, I'm still enjoying the game, but I can understand other ppl being disappointed.

2

u/StabbyMcStomp 21h ago

It's really the swindled context or scam as most say, same deal but overused imo, fair enough on you individually if I misunderstood, I'm more saying this in general because I see the word scam used in early access in general across many games and aside from a few legit scam games that make it on steam for a time, it's usually just drama lol I love steam early access. It's the only reason I still buy overpriced gaming pcs lol AAA games are made for babies mostly now so.. a cheap shot In the not so dark (if you do your research) on a cool looking EA game is ideal for me even if it doesn't live up one day, sucks when it happens but it wouldn't be lightning in a bottle if every game got it right..

0

u/Important_Job6697 22h ago

So I guess either the console edition will be delayed or postponed indefinitely OR it could possibly be a shitty port.

4

u/OhMyWording 22h ago

the game barely runs properly on PC, with dozens of game breaking bugs, terrible optimization and a very laggy netcode. there's no way it will ever be ported to console... issues would multiply by tenfold. And not to mention the UI which would be a living hell navigating with a controller ( possibly one of the worst UIs in modern video game history ). That's the biggest pipe dream ever....

2

u/DeneralVisease 16h ago

I bet you money Scum on console never sees the light of day.

1

u/Important_Job6697 22h ago

A pipe dream, but a dream nevertheless, I tried playing on the legion go, and while the was no lag and it ran well, trying to make extensive PC controls the the "xbox" controls was and is a nightmare and with only 1 mouse input, not a lot I could do for mapping keys. I guess I'll stick to console games til I'm no longer a broke bitch and can get myself a decent rig that can run games at medium settings on a 2k resolution. A pipe dream for sure. 😭
