Hi [r/rowing](r/rowing),

Tomorrow we kick off the 61st Head Of The Charles, streaming live and free on TRC.live and YouTube. We’re excited to bring our suite of advanced features back to the world's largest three-day regatta for a second year.

Here is what we are rolling out from Day 1:

SuperMix: Generates a custom video playlist for any specific crew, showing every single camera crossing of your chosen boat down the course.

Full Boat Lineups: Expanded lineup graphics showing the entire crew in every boat.

Waypoint-Level Stats: New split-by-split data showing how a boat's placement changes at each timing location across the course.

Tune in on TRC.live all weekend! If you have any feedback or feature ideas while watching, let us know in the comments.

Active tools active fit coming Jan 1st

With the somewhat disappointing NK GPS 2 which didn’t fix the major issues of the empower oarlock (no force curve and only one gate connected) I’m considerably more excited to see active tools seemingly ready to release their new rapid fit power meter which looks like a good competitor to the Xboat - presumably they’ll be showing it off at HoC this weekend (sadly not there myself)

Erg Post First 6k at 29 minutes

Joined college rowing as a walk on. I am a 18 yr old female at a height of 5’3 and weight of 130lb, I’d say a 50/50 muscle:fat build. I started rowing on the erg 5 weeks ago and even though I was the last one to finish on my team, I did better than I thought (was aiming for 30 minutes. My first 500m was at 2:19 pace and at 4-5k I was at 2:25-2:29/ 500m but my last k I got it down to 2:22/500m. I know this is not the best time ever and given my stats, what’s the best way for me to improve? I’ll probably get cut off of my team in December because it’s D1 but it’s okay!

Front end warm up on the erg

My club has recently introduced doing front end warm ups on the erg before our steady state. But I find it really hurts my back, I don't have this problem on the water when I do FWU. No one's made a comment on my form while doing it, so idk is it normal for it to hurt?

Hooch and scratching after scratch deadline?

I sustained a lower body injury recently to where I cannot row. Very doubtful for head of the hooch. How is head of the hooch for racers who scratch a couple weeks before the race?

But the longer it’s taking my injury to heal the more uncertain I am for racing in it. How is the hooch for entering the previous year if you scratched past the deadline?

I’ve been trying to build a consistent rowing routine... what keeps you on track?

I have just gotten into rowing a month back and i felt like 2k was a reasonable count to start and turns out that there is a big diff between knowing how to move the handle and actually knowing how to row properly.... so i have been using the r60n (merach) at home and my first few sessions were mostly about me trying to figure out my rhythm and not completely destroy myself halfway through. Now, i am finding the hardest part not even the rowing itself but trying to figure out when to actually fit it into my day... if i tell myself im going to do a full hour after work, there's legit a high chance of me just just pushing it back, shorter sessions seem much easier to get done especially when im already at home. So i have been experimenting different times instead of forcing myself into one fixed routine... still havent found what exactly works for me but im curious how everyone else manages to stay consistent. Do you guys have a set time you always row, or do you just fit in whenever you get the chance?

Virtual rowing

Hello everyone! I’m interested in virtual rowing. Are you using EXR or Kinomap? I recently bought an affordable rowing machine for indoor workouts and I’m curious to know how you set up your virtual rowing setups.

Curious how EXR compares to Kinomap?

We've just published a new blog comparing both indoor rowing apps, from their training features to the overall rowing experience.

Whether you've used Kinomap before or simply want to explore the differences, this guide gives you a closer look at what makes each app unique.

Anyone else like the idea of exploring virtual routes during indoor rows?

Hey everyone,

If you enjoy rowing but could use a change of scenery during indoor sessions, this might be interesting.

I’m the developer of RowWorld, an Android app that connects to compatible Bluetooth FTMS rowing machines and lets you explore virtual waterways while you train.

You can row through a green riverside setting or a city harbour, choose your direction at junctions, and keep your rowing stats on screen. There are built-in workouts, custom intervals, and a 2,000m segment for chasing your own times.

The idea is to give you somewhere to go while you get your metres in.

You can take a look here: https://rowworld.app

I’d love some honest feedback from people who row regularly. Would exploring different routes add something to your sessions? And which rowing machine would you want to use it with?
