I understand that the default speed limit without mutators is 216 kph as a precaution to prevent bugs from happening. But as someone who's played this game a lot and has pretty much mastered the ground pinch mechanic, I believe this speed limit can be considered quite low.
Here are my arguments:
Pinches in Rocket League have always been a niche mechanic, but they've always been really popular among the people who actually do them. And as time went on, records kept getting broken until we eventually reached the point where we hit the highest possible ground pinch world record, 216 kph, around 3 years ago.
As time went on, people discovered that you could increase the maximum ball speed using BakkesMod, just to see if raising the speed cap would make it possible to hit pinches faster than 216 kph. And it turned out to be possible. In fact, the fastest solo ground pinch ever hit is currently 221 kph, achieved by Finn and Stijn (using the regular ground pinch setup). And with the "CPtoGP" setup (Ceiling Pinch to Ground Pinch), the record is 230 kph, set by Nixus Dragon.
And that's not even mentioning team pinches, which push those numbers even higher. World records for double and triple ground pinches in private matches go beyond 250 kph. In fact, the fastest pinch ever hit without using any mutators (other than increasing the maximum ball speed, obviously) was 388 kph. But I don't think that's necessarily the speed cap I'm proposing. It could be a bit lower, since that particular pinch required 7 people.
A ball traveling at 540 kph could definitely be a problem in other game modes because of the glitch where the ball goes through walls. However, based on my years of experience using mutators and many other methods to increase ball speed, I genuinely believe that raising the speed cap to around 300 kph wouldn't be an issue.
The problems:
The current in-game solo ground pinch world record is 216 kph, set by Ax. He's hit pinches that would've gone over 216 kph thousands of times. And he's just one example out of more than 500 ground pinchers who have managed to hit pinches above 216 kph.
The thing is, this is also a problem on consoles. In training, there's no way to increase the maximum ball speed to reach higher speeds because BakkesMod isn't available. This holds back a lot of insanely skilled players who simply can't hit pinches faster than 216 kph because of the speed cap.
Even in actual matches, there have definitely been plenty of goals that would've been faster than 216 kph if the speed cap didn't exist. This ends up preventing new world records from being broken and creates an unnecessarily low ceiling, especially considering that it's humanly possible to make the ball reach higher speeds without using any in-game mutators and without causing any performance issues.
There are several Discord servers with over 400 members who play Rocket League mainly to hit pinches. And every single one of them faces the exact same problem. Their solution is always the same: either use BakkesMod or just accept that they'll never be able to hit a pinch faster than 216 kph, whether in training or in an actual match.
The proposal:
Increase the game's maximum ball speed from 216 kph to somewhere around 250–350 kph. Ideally, 350 kph would be perfect, but even raising it to 300 or 250–270 kph would still be a great improvement.
Besides not causing any performance issues, this would give players the opportunity to score faster goals, spend more time playing the game, and set new world records with the increased speed cap.
