Favorite furry media actually made by furries?

Furries are great at promoting Disney, Dreamworks, etc, for making "furry" movies, but sometimes have trouble promoting things actually made by furries. So let's get some together!

Discussion 💬 Am I going crazy, or are a lot of furry artists not participating in the fandom like they used to?

I have noticed about half the artists I follow have deactivated their accounts and / or migrated to different platforms. A lot like to just draw in person nowadays and I see the occasional booth they set up to sell art. While the other ones are usually just not taking social media as seriously as they used to. Like a lot of these artists used to draw Steven Universe art like new gems and other things and also so many Undertale memes too. Now they are silent if not for the occasional repost. It's like a lot of artists aren't in a "Grind" anymore, it's more like just a settled down slow "Vibe" sort of thing. Do you guys notice this too? Also about 30% of the artists I follow have over 10 thousand followers and even they are just inching to a halt. (If that helps to show it's not only small creators).

Do you think the fandom has any leaders or leadership?

Anyone media star, con organizer or tiktoker that stands out as someone that you could point to as a leader?

Or is furry pretty much anarchy (in the best way)?

Question ❓ How can I help people find good reference art for less popular species?

Post image
18 Upvotes

I find that with popular furry species you can find many wonderful and great reference art, however with niche species you have to dig through deviantart and furaffinity hell just to find artwork at all. (Not saying popular species is bad, I like foxes and wolves too)

In the hopes that people can find good artwork easily as inspiration to create their fursona/oc based on niche species, I share/create artwork of less known furry species on Reddit.

I started this because a few years ago I looked up ‘Puffin furry art’ and the top artwork was mspaint puffin inflation art which isn’t a very good reference for someone (me) trying to make a puffin fursona. So I decided to repost furry puffins on Reddit and now that is not the case, there are a few good fullbody artworks now. I’ve been doing this with centipedes, cassowaries, brushtail possums and other species.

How can I increase the chances of the artwork I share to be one of the things people see when they search up ’insert species furry art’ ? I used to share the artworks on r/furry since it comes up a lot on google search but now they take days to approve the artwork and sometimes it’s not even approved. I think I may need a different strategy, it would be very thoughtful if you could share your ideas.

(also artwork on post is by me, he is a Jacob sheep)

Then it turned into very mild nsfw on one occasion and that’s abt it. I know I’ve never been attracted to an animal or anything but I’m worried I’m a zoophile yk? Like my therapist says I’m not but I still did this shit so what does this make me? Should I like be worried abt what a future spouse or other furries might think orrr

Question ❓ Why are furries so insistent on doing their friends?

I have a friend I've known for a good while who routinely tries to make moves on me. It's honestly annoying, especially because I've made it clear that I don't really hook up with my friends.

What confuses me, though, is that in a lot of the Discord communities I'm in, people will meet up at cons and hook up with each other, while being very against hooking up with strangers. I understand the reasoning you've already known each other for a while, there's mutual trust, you know what to expect from each other, etc. But I still don't understand how having sex doesn't change the friendship dynamic.

Maybe I'm looking at it differently because, personally, I'd rather hook up with someone I don't know than a friend. If something goes wrong with a stranger, I can just walk away and never talk to them again. With a friend, you're potentially affecting a relationship that already existed before the sex.

For people who regularly hook up with their friends how does it actually not change the friendship? Does it genuinely feel exactly the same afterward, or does the dynamic change in some way that you just get used to?

Question ❓ The safety of furry sex-toys? NSFW

Recently, I've seen some interesting discussion about a (non-furry) sex-toy company that was exposed for using materials that definitely weren't body-safe. Many customers noticed their toys weren't very long-lasting (despite costing quite a bit), but the company hushed negative reviews and brushed-off any concerns.

The unfortunate thing about sex toys is that in many countries, they are still not regulated. Even if a toy claims to be safe, sometimes they use sneaky tricks to disguise the fact that they use subpar materials.

(e.g. I've seen sex-toys makers that say they are made of silicone, which implies they're safe; but unless they specify platinum-cure/waterproof silicone, chances are it uses regular silicone which is NOT body safe)

So, while I'm not particularly into dragon dildos myself, I am curious how seriously safety is taken by the community and furry sex-toy manufacturers?

P.S. I understand there are likely cheap knock-offs out there that aren't particularly good, but I'm referring specifically to the larger/trusted companies such as Naughty Fox, The Wandering Bard, Twin Tail Creations, Northosaur, Frisky Fox, etc.

Question ❓ Why are mods of larger furry subreddits so quick to ban posts for no real reason?

r/furry has a discussion tag, but literally anything that isn't "owo how do I choose cutee fursona species?" gets banned. It doesn't even need to be particularly controversial, almost any actual discussion just gets deleted despite the sub apparently allowing it. Recently I saw someone make an extremely grounded discussion post about the state of furry social media, and it got thrown into "moderator approval" limbo for a day before just being banned without explanation.

(And don't even get me started on the double-standards on "suggestive" content. Someone well-acquainted with the mods can post a from-behind shot of a girl with a lifted skirt without an NSFW tag, but if a lesser known person posts something as subtle as a character with bedroom eyes it will get banned even with an NSFW tag)

r/furry_irl seemingly just removes stuff the mods don't personally like. I've seen (often completely safe, wholesome) posts amass over a 1000 upvotes, only to get banned with no explanation even though they don't break any rules. And god forbid if you post a controversial meme, it will get banned in less than an hour (speaking from experience), even if the community clearly liked it.

r/furrymemes is slightly less trigger-happy than the previous two, but I've also seen completely safe content get banned with no explanation, while content that even my weirdo ass had to do a double-take on gets a pass all the time. Someone can post a video of a fly scrolling through uncensored yiff with 0 punchline, but actual memes get deleted. Like... what even...? Huh???

r/furrydiscuss is... well, do I even need to say anything? That sub has kinda become a meme with how often any even slightly controversial discussion gets banned. Not to mention, they have a habit of banning good threads if the "comments devolve" instead of, y'know... just locking the post so the good replies can remain accessible.

IDK man, its just kinda weird. I don't get why so much content gets deleted from furry subs for absolutely no reason. On rare occasions, I've dead-ass started CTRL+S saving some posts I like because about a third of them get wiped.

Discussion 💬 Furry reddit

Just got muted for mentioning how the rules on pup hoods does not jive with the rest of the content, stuff like harnesses and collars on humans in fursuit is borderline nsfw, same a puphood doesnt have to be nsfw but mostly is. I questioned the ban with like two sentences saying its just me asking why having a discussion on it is bad, and was muted for 18 more days and not responded too. Why the fuck are so many higher up furries puritans when most furries are not and are in fact mostly nsfw

Discussion 💬 Why are straight furries never satisfied with the absolutely massive amount of content they already have? NSFW

Any time there's nsfw content that's gay or solo male, the straight guys can't help but come in and go "This would be better if it was a woman..." and "Female version please?" and "Hope you make another with a girl."

They have trillions, even more and coming by the thousands every single day, of content just for them but get disappointed and upset any time they see something not made for them, and come in to wish that it was for them instead.
I see this all the time browsing nsfw stuff. Any time there's finally something that's absurdly good quality that's solo male or gay, the straight guys are down below pouting that it's not the 100 trillionth straight thing for them.

Then what's even more annoying is the creators of said content will always try to appease them by then making just what they want, and eventually it takes over the content entirely.

As an example:
Say there's a furry nsfw artist that makes male dragons. They make it with insanely good quality.
Again and again and again, straight people will keep coming in going "this would be better if it was a girl", "can you make a female one?", "man this would be perfect with some cooch instead", "if only it was a girl..."
Then they will appease them and release female content.
The straight guys will then swarm it, praising it, liking it, giving it tons of praise, so the creator makes more. And this attracts more of them. Because there's more straight guys than gay or anything else, they will vastly outnumber the other fans.
Then eventually the creator makes almost exclusively content for them and what they did before disappears almost entirely.

It's also happened with that game, Drag'n Wash. It's an awesome game with just male dragons. But the straight guys would NOT STOP commenting, again and again and again, endlessly, "Yeah this is good and all but... where are the girl dragons? :(" They just would not stop. Over and over and over, talking about them being disappointed that all there is is dick and balls and they wish it was girls instead so they can enjoy it.

Now they're going to add female dragons, and what's going to happen? Same thing that always does. The game is going to be swarmed by the straight guys, who are then going to make up the absolute vast majority of the playerbase, and then it's going to swap to mostly cater them instead because there's more straight guys than gay or bi guys (or women into this kind of thing).
They're going to end up bitching over and over any time another male dragon is added and ask for more of what they like instead, because they are literally never satisfied.

Why are straight guys never satisfied with what they have? Near endless content and they still get disappointed any time they see something that isn't for them, and try to change it so it's for them instead and take it over.
I have never one time seen a gay guy go on a post of a female character and reply "Man this would be so much better if it was a guy/gay". Not one time. But I see straight dudes do this constantly.

Question ❓ What do you think about mass produced fursuits?

It's that time of the year again where young furries discover that they can get a very cheap "fursuit" at places that sell Halloween costumes.

These mass-produced suits are often poor quality, but are the most some people can afford.

Along with the store bought suits are sites like MeowWolf (etc) that use basically underpaid labor to crank out generic fursuits (which is a shame because I actually love some of the designs that come out of that store)

Where do you stand? Are you a hardline "a first suit should be one you build if you can't pay a furry to do it" or do we "live in a society" and it doesn't matter? Or some other way to feel?

Discussion 💬 The furry fandom has become so hateful

Just a small rant but I have been in this fandom since 2017 but knew about the fandom since 2012 and through the years befor 2020 furry for the most part was very niche and more of the 'weird' hobby as most woud put it, right around 2018-2019 when tiktok dance trends were relevant I noticed more and more furries joined in- then came the dinomask furries and I notice how a lot of other furries became so hateful and honest elites, but when other big furries started joining in- then 2020 hit, people were stuck inside and lot of people got to see the furry fandom that way and now im seeing a lot more elitism within the fandom and a lot more bigotry and misogyny. The purity culture is also a bit of a problem, i understand it not everyone's thing but in some capacity the NSFW stuff sometimes does get out of hand, especially from what I heard, at cons. I also noticed if you made an honest mistake and actually put in the effort to do better people will always see you as a horrible person and that scares me.

I love this fandom, I really do because it helped me become someone I needed when I was younger, im just sad that the fandom i used to escape is now becoming the exact thing I wanted to get away from. What are y'alls thoughts? Has the fandom gotten worse over the years or am I just blind from nostalgia?
