Workflows and Business Advice
This megathread should cover workflow advice and business practices. *We generally discourage advice towards, solication of, etc. brands and companies in the general subreddit. However, things will be a bit more lax here regarding recommendations. We'll still be tight on advertisers, but advertisers being directly referenced will have no problems responding.*

Any 3D tour platforms that let you pay for hosting per project?
A listing tour might only need to stay online for a few months, while a rental property's tour could be useful all year. I'd like to budget hosting around how long each client needs the link.
Are there platforms where you can pay for three or six months on one tour, then extend just that tour if needed? What does that cost in practice compared with a subscription covering a set number of active spaces? Interested in options people use for paid property shoots.

File size for MLS
What file size do you export your photos at or tell your editor to export them at? My realtor was having a lot of issues with a lot of my photos because they were over 15MB.

Real estate videos with agents in them….
I know this is a photography subreddit but I’m betting a lot of us do the videography as well. I’m struggling with agents requesting to be in the video and on the day have no idea what to say, how they should move, or where they want to be filmed.
I’m not a director and it’s hard to come up with everything on the spot and also focus on my own shots. I have started to request that they have a basic script in place, but know how to make it all flow together on the day is time consuming and editing it all is a nightmare
Do you guys ever deal with this issues and if so, what preventative steps do you take, what’s your flow like, and how much do you charge?

For experienced RE photogs - Does this job pass the sniff test?
Hello,
Two weeks ago, I was contacted by an out of state real estate investment company to shoot a car wash. It's the kind of property where they do their own edits in house, so I shot the bracketed images and aerials, and sent the unedited images in a Dropbox folder. Fairly straightforward stuff
Two weeks later, the invoice is still unpaid. I didn't consider it much of a red flag, because I have done these jobs before and I know when it has to go through an accounting department, it can take a couple weeks - but I did ask for a follow-up yesterday. I received a reply (looking into it) but no resolution
Just yesterday another investment team reached out to me to shoot the same property (only two weeks apart). This contact SAID this was for insurance reasons, but his website points to an investment firm. I would have thought he was lying (which, of course, we know they do so that the employees don't get clued in that the place is being sold), but the shot list included things like close up details of the inside of the tunnel - things that could be used for insurance. However, it does ALSO include wider angle shots and aerials that you would expect would be needed for real estate
I have had local real estate agents reach out to me about the same property, but that usually has a simple explanation (the homeowner changed agents). I've never had two investment firms reach out to me a couple weeks apart. I would have thought large investment firms like that require a commitment from the seller that would keep them from switching so quickly
Does this pass the sniff test?
Would you be open about already shooting the property and try to figure out what it going, or would you keep it to yourself? I didn't sign any NDA for the first job, and they also haven't even paid yet. TBH - I kind of hated the job - it was outside in the heat and the obstacles around made the aerials difficult and stressful. I really just want to offer him what I already have (butttt I know I probably shouldn't). How would you proceed?

Mid-tone contrast slider?
Does anyone know of a slider within any editing program that's helpful for dealing with mid-tone contrast? Something similar to the "structure" slider within Luminar or the Clarity slider within PS / LR but without the grunge.

Lens setup suggestions - hear me out 🙂
I shoot mix of commercial and real estate work and properties vary from very small tight spaced apartments to large industrial unite.
I use 16-35 gm ii as my main lens for all commercial work and good sized homes however i tend to use laowa 12 mm zero d 2.8 mf as 16mm becomes too tight for some spaces.
I am however looking to maybe just get one lens like 12-24 or something to just rock it and use both focal lengths.
With laowa 2.8 i see zero to no distortion and my only concern with any alternative is the distortion.
Any recommendations?

What am I doing wrong?
For context, I started my real estate photography business 2 years ago. I haven’t actively been working on it recently as I’ve been studying for university. At first, I got clients by cold text messaging, which I can’t do now since it’s illegal in Texas without consent.
So, I tried visiting nearby offices and brokerages. I spent $200 on donuts to give out, but 8 out of 10 were closed even though Google listed them as open. That was $200 down the drain. I tried more brokerage visits, calling ahead this time, and spoke to a couple of agents and a receptionist. Zero responses back.
Then I tried cold emailing. I sent around 50 customized emails to specific people. Zero responses.
Next, I tried cold calling, which I hate. Out of 30 calls, only 5 answered, and 0 clients came from it.
Most recently, I sponsored a lunch event at a huge brokerage. The organizer said there would be 25 agents and 10 staff members needing food, costing $500 in catering. Less than 10 agents actually showed up. I hosted a raffle for the agents with 2 winners, offering 15 MLS photos for free for a year. (Looking back, that was the dumbest raffle I could have hosted it could potentially cost me $4,300.) That was last week. I spoke to every agent and texted everyone whose contact info I collected from the raffle, but I haven't received a single response or call back yet.
I’m in central texas, Austin area. I already spent close to $8k on everything running this business + countless hours of my time.
Please give me suggestions.

How many networks are you in?
I was pitched an opportunity to join a network that gives vendors access to brokerages. This network ensures you can give presentations and drop off brochures that won’t be thrown in the trash the moment you walk out the door.
This network is only for XX number of offices of the same brokerage. For instance 20 Long & Foster offices.
I’m encountering more and more “special” vendor lists brokerages want vendors to pay for.

RE Course with AI
Hi everyone, I am new to real estate content creation, I will be videographer and editor.
I see a lot of modern content with help of AI (I guess), speed ramping and cool effects. I have offered free shots to start with.
Is there a course where I can learn these skills?
I will be videographer and editor, I can outsource editing but I deeply want to do by own.

What can i offer of value?
I spent several years building a real estate photography business and experienced a decent amount of success. We had 10+ photographers, marketing plans, sales team, operations VA, and I was running the team. I learned a lot in the process and I want to add value back to the community and help others succeed. To be transparent, I offer a coaching and consulting business but that is not the reason I am asking here, more importantly to my goals, I want to find out what others are trying to learn in order to succeed and then create free resources to help them. I will of course use this information to help me in my business endeavors but also think I can add value to the community by sharing what I have learned and succeed in. Any resources I create I will share link to access for free here.
For those who are established or just getting started, which of these seems most valuable for you to learn in your business today:
- Market research - how to understand your local market and what you need to know to compete on price, service standards, editing styles, and product offerings
- Sales - how to grow a sales engine that consistently brings in 20-30% growth YoY
- Operation help - how to hire and add VA’s - where to find them, how to give them work, how to measure effectiveness and how to know when to hire them
- Hiring and People - how to find good photographers, how to train them, how to manage their work and create systems around them and how to keep them long term
- Client communication - how to manage communication, delivery, revisions, and client updates on appointments and delivered media
- Product management, editing and revisions - how to keep media flowing and back to clients quickl;y and accurately
Any input is much appreciated! If you think of something not on the list, please comment. :D Thank you!

Real estate photographers, what tripods / heads are you using?
Hey guys!
I've been shooting real estate and architecture for 5+ years, always using whatever tripod my employer provided. I've recently been made redundant and am starting my own business, which means buying all the things!
My camera and lenses are sorted, but the number of tripods and heads out there is overwhelming.
What tripod / head combos are you using and loving?
I'm looking for something sturdy, reliable and practical for professional use without breaking the bank. Would love some recommendations. Thanks all!

What Services Do People Need?
I specialize in 2D/3D and AI image & Video creation and use all the frontier models as well as specifically trained models for certain types of projects. I've been in the field of digital imaging since the early 90's
I have seen a lot of requests about touching up real estate photos. I would like to ask the community what services they need, and if they want full service or a portal to a model that is trained is real eastate photography?
How much are people paying now, and aside from free what is an expected cost range?
Are videos useful or primarily still images?
If you are a user of these types of services, please DM me and I can share the company url, and I'm very interested to hear what you and others in your position need.
This is a topic I'm exploring, and I genuinely want to understand what the community needs.

Vertical + Horizontal video
Has anyone been able to record vertical AND horizontal video at the same time?
I'm using a Sony a7iv on a gimbal, and got the Ace Pro 2, but I can't get the perspectives right.
Any advice?

AI editing sites Oct 2026
I find AutoHDR to be expensive and their newest model Iris is terrible. RealtyEdit produces a more realistic looking image but it lacks detail and texture and results are overall softer and lower in resolution than competitors. As for Fotello, their pricing model makes no sense. Autoenhance produces images that look like an amateur edited them.
AI editing promised quicker turnaround times and it’s definitely been amazingly helpful for those super busy weeks but I’m not always seeing reliable consistency and overall results that make me proud of the work I deliver.
Any other sites out there that actually produce a decent result, or is it time to edit by hand/ find a human editor again?
Would love to hear your thoughts.

How would you price these photos?
galleryI need a little help figuring out my pricing. I started doing REP earlier this year for a friend who is an agent. Did a few houses at a cheap price for giving me the opportunity to build a portfolio. Ready to put myself out there now, but not sure what the right price is.
For markets sake, live in a small college town with about 15,000 people and a population of 65,000 in the entire county. Average home value is around $250,000
I currently just do interior/exterior, drone stills, and 2d floor plans, though I’ll be adding more services as I go.

Looking for Matterport alternatives — tired of the Pro3 24-month subscription bundle pricing
I've been looking into the Matterport ecosystem, but seeing how the Pro3 and its Performance kits are heavily tied to mandatory multi-year commitments (like locking into a 24-month Professional plan that totals thousands over time just to manage active spaces) makes it a really tough pill to swallow for regular workflows.
Are there other reliable 3D tour alternatives that don't lock you into these expensive, long-term SaaS traps? I'm looking for options with more flexible pay-as-you-go models or hardware that doesn't hold your data and hosting hostage. What are you guys using nowadays to keep overhead low?

Nikon z 14-30 f4 or Tamron 16-30 2.8. Is the extra 2mm worth the extra cost and does it really make that much difference?
Normally I would just rent from my local Samys the rebadged nikon 17-28 but I’ve been shooting more listings lately and decided to get my first wide angle zoom. Anyone shooting with these lenses? For those with the tamron do you wish you had a wider lens or is 14 too wide?

What’s your turn-around time for all of your services?
I’m trying to see what a ‘typical’ turn-around time would be for real estate media services. Keep it to the basics like photos, videos, aerials, 3d tours, and floor plans/measurements.
Be as specific as you can. Next-day could be 9a or 5p. I realize there’s variance for videos since there are more detailed and less detailed videos, but give me as specific as you can for the basic ones you do.
TIA, yall, and happy photographing!
