wanted to spark a discussion about Dhruv Jurel and his current trajectory in the Indian setup.
At just 25 years old I genuinely feel Jurel is the best wicketkeeper in the Indian circuit purely on keeping skills Yet, looking at how things are panning out, it feels like he isn't being backed consistently enough by the team management.
Massive IPL Season: He had a phenomenal IPL season recently crossing the 500 run mark**
India A Performances: he has consistently scored runs for India A against tough overseas opposition like Australia A, South Africa A and England A in testing conditions.
Red-Ball: Whenever he has gotten a look-in for the senior Test side (mostly when Rishabh Pant has been unavailable), he has delivered that stunning century against Sri Lanka that showed exactly what he is capable of at the international level.
Now, with the New Zealand tour approaching, there's a lot of chatter about Ishan Kishan making a comeback into the Test squad. Let’s be honest if Kishan is in the squad, management isn't dropping Rishabh Pant, meaning Jurel will likely lose his spot entirely to Kishan.
Sure, Ishan Kishan lit up the 2026 Duleep Trophy final with a massive double century but let's remember the context of those tracks. Is a singular explosive performance on batter-friendly pitches enough to jump ahead of a proven red-ball performer like Jurel, who has actually grinded it out and performed in tough overseas conditions for India A?
Personally, I feel we are sitting on a massive, generational talent here. We shouldn't waste him. He needs a long rope in Tests and looking past the 2027 World Cup, he could easily develop into a mainstay in our ODI setup as well.
What do you guys think? Are we mismanaging Jurel's transition or should he be starting ahead of the competition? Drop your thoughts below!
