Discussion Why is this community so indecisive when it comes to private servers?
The only thing people agree on is that the official ro is not good and that mobile games should be avoided like the plague.
Every other MMO I know has "preferred" private servers, yet I can never find a definitive answer from this community
People say UARO but then get downvoted into oblivion by people who don't seem to have an answer as to WHAT SERVER THEY SHOULD ACTUALLY PLAY.

Nightmare RO - A new experience
I tried making a post about this server a few days ago, but it got removed because I made it in a rush, so here goes.
I have been playing at Nightmare RO for about a month or two. It has been one of the best servers I played. Ever. Do note that it's a fully custom server, so it might not be for everyone. But I think it really captures the essence of RO, even if it has completely different gameplay loop from the original game. The progression and gameplay loop is really satisfying. As it has so many changes and new systems, it would be too long to list everything here, but I will talk about the the main changes:
-Fully Custom - Every skill and class, monster, gear, cards, gameplay loop is changed. If you played or heard about PRM (Project of Morroc) it is similar to that.
- MVP altars - Very different from the normal mvp hunting experience from most servers. Here, there's an "altar system" - essentialy you hunt certain items from champion mobs in certain maps so you can summon the MVP from that map; MVP hunting start at level 30 and go all the way to max level. That also means that the progression is very satisfying, as low level character have powerful gear to go for early on, coupled from the fact that gear and card from mvp's are set to 5% drop rate.
- Explore, explore, explore - As most things are custom, there is a lot to learn and explore. Tons of secret quests and systems.
- Nightmare Dungeons and Challenge dungeons - Tied to the overall lore of the server, there are different types of dungeons, each with its own mechanics and gear necessary to progress through. Nightmare Dungeons are much harder than the "Overworld", but with specialized gear you will be 10x stronger too; Challenge Dungeons act as high-tier endgame content where.
- Community is friendly and helpful. It is, however, sadly very low pop. I would say 10 to 100 online players (not counting merchants). This is one of the reasons for me posting here, as I would like to see the server grow. The dev is also very active and you can see it's a passion project for him.
Cons: Low-pop, there are constant changes, which may not sit well with everyone. The server sometimes suffer from lag spikes. Balance is a mixed bag, some classes feel really strong, while others are kind of weak.

Renewal Guide on how the Betelgeuse fight goes. Help!
I play in iRO Chaos. I'm currently trying to take down just 600% Betelgeuse solo and I'm having the hardest time. I'm using my IG Cross Rain build. Phase 1 is easy enough, he goes down easy, phase 2, he becomes invulnerable for some reason, I can't deal any damage. I've scoured the web for any guides on how to beat him but I only see videos of people showing off how they kill him in 10 seconds, no guides whatsoever. Can somebody help me please? Thank you very much!

I need a backup of Ragnarok: The Lost Memories
I love this game and I'll try to RE and recompile it to play single-player, but I need the files. By any chance, does anyone still have it installed on PC? If you could upload it to Google Drive, I would be really grateful.

AI What Ragnarok Online looked like a year before launch (2001 alpha, rendered from the original files)
Some of the 2001 alpha files survived (Ridley posted them on the Hercules forums in 2016), but they were packed in a format none of the usual tools could open. I wrote an extractor and loaded every map. Back then, Prontera wasn't even one map.
Video (8 min): https://youtu.be/9iOs57j156c
Sources and credits are in the description. If you have old clients or files from 2001 or 2002, I'd love to load them.

Discussion at this point, i just want a private pre-renewal server with a monthly subscription or credit-based model
that's it. anyone whos willing to play are at least in their mid twenties / early thirties and can afford to pay to play for nostalgia sake. id rather pay to play something consistent and stable, and its totally reasonable! theres no free lunch; hosting a server costs time and money, and im willing to pay for the product and service to support it. much better than some silly pay-to-win cash-grab model.

Someone just released an open-source Ragnarok 3 server emulator
Looks like someone has already reverse-engineered the Ragnarok 3 server and made the entire project public on GitHub.

Einbroch Reimagination!
Hello everyone! Rumi here! Today the Gearfinder team showcases our "Einbroch 3.0" prototype map. I guess we can all agree that while Einbroch has a pretty nice theme and ambience, it truly lacks in proper navigation, being one of the most annoying towns to walk around when playing...
I personally love the city, but in past projects where we used it as a main town a few years ago, it was absolutely terrible for the player experience. Then we made 2.0. While it was decent and fixed most of the issues, it was built with a certain lack of understanding on how to use BrowEdit3 and had LOADS of design issues.
Today! We present a prototype of our "3.0". With replaced tiles, new trees and better movement to navigate inside the town. Do note: those are BrowEdit3 screenshots, not actual in-game views!
Thanks for reading my small post! 😄
See you soon!

Windhawk AA Build is it possible ?
Is there any viable auto-attack build for the Windhawk? I was told there aren't any viable builds anymore, since the damage can't even come close to what you get from spamming skills. I'm an old player who came back recently and i remember doing Sniper mvp builds with full agi + luck. Is there anything close to that ?

Zero Ragnarok Zero Global Design Audit: How Autopilot & Obliterated Job Quests Destroyed the Social Core of Midgard
An Open Game-Design Audit of Ragnarok Zero Global: Nostalgia, Baffling Progression Reworks, and How "Auto-Hunt" Killed the Soul of the MMO
Introduction: The Magical Chaos of 2004
To understand where Ragnarok Zero Global fails, one must first analyze what made Ragnarok Online an icon in the first place.
Cast your mind back to the European release on April 15, 2004. Many of us jumped into Midgard with zero English proficiency, completely oblivious to math-heavy mechanics or optimized build paths. Yet, the sense of exhilaration was unmatched. Whether you were testing a newly learned skill on an innocent Poring, or getting instantly stomped into the dirt by a Rocker because you dared to venture one map too far—every single interaction felt alive, dangerous, and rewarding.
Standing outside the gates of Prontera was an immersive spectacle. It was a chaotic, beautiful ecosystem: a sea of Merchant vending bubbles, players spamming public chatrooms to build leveling parties, Acolytes and Priests sitting in circles spamming Heal and Blessing, and Bards playing instruments in the crowd. Public chat rooms weren’t just a social gimmick; they were the structural backbone of the entire community. You watched someone walk past in a slick 2nd Job costume, asked them how they achieved it, and built genuine connections along the way.
It was unscripted, unautomated, and utterly phenomenal.
1. The Identity Crisis of Job Changes: From Achievement to Instant Gratification
In original RO, changing jobs felt like a rite of passage. The initial Novice grounds taught you the basics (Levels 1–9), and once you felt ready, you made the conscious decision to travel to a specific city—Morroc, Geffen, Payon, or Prontera—to seek out your guild master and prove yourself.
Ragnarok Zero Global has completely gutted this core loop:
- The 25-Second Job Change: You are now teleported, funneled through a repetitive tutorial instance, and handed your 1st Job in roughly 25 seconds. The sense of atmosphere, world exploration, and accomplishment is entirely gone.
- The Forced 50/50 Job Level Requirement: Originally, players faced a meaningful choice: switch to 2nd Job early at Job Level 40 for a fast power spike, or push through the grind to Job 50 for extra skill points and prestige. Zero Global forces a mandatory 50/50 requirement.
- The "Level 37–50" Purgatory: To make matters worse, the Base/Job EXP scaling around Base Level 37 to 50 feels as painfully slow as grinding from 90 to 91 in classic RO. It completely drains the momentum out of the mid-game, turning what should be an exciting milestone into an artificial wall.
2. The Autopilot Plague: How "Auto-Hunt" Destroyed Social Dynamics
The most baffling design choice in Zero Global is the implementation of the built-in Auto-Hunt (Autopilot) system.
Presumably, someone in Gravity’s design department held the patronizing belief that Western/European players "don't like grinding," or perhaps local publishing regulations demanded an automated system. Whatever the internal justification was, Auto-Hunt has effectively murdered the game's social heart.
- The Lost Interaction with Acolytes/Priests: In the original game, running past a Priest on a leveling map meant a genuine human connection. You’d type "buff please" or simply say hi, and 90% of the time, you’d receive a friendly Heal, Blessing, or Increase AGI before continuing your journey. It made the world feel warm, collaborative, and alive. Today? Every Acolyte and Priest is running on Autopilot. They run past you like brainless NPCs, completely oblivious to their surroundings. You get 0 interaction, 0 help, and a depressing, hollow map experience. It is genuinely heartbreaking to watch.
- The Ghost Town Effect: Walk up to a player today, send a message, or try to start a conversation, and you will be met with absolute silence. You quickly realize you aren't playing with people; you are playing alongside AFK scripts running on autopilot.
- Multi-Client Stacking: The system actively encourages players to open 3, 4, or 5 simultaneous paying accounts, set them all to Auto-Hunt on a single map, and walk away from their computers.
- Zero Communication: A game that once thrived on player-driven coordination has been converted into a glorified single-player idle game where everyone pays monthly sub fees to watch their characters auto-attack walls.
3. The Prontera Market Instancing: Sanitizing the Soul of Midgard
To add to the list of baffling modernizations, someone at Gravity evidently decided that Prontera was "too messy" and banished all Merchant vending shops into instanced Market Maps (Market 1, 2, 3).
- Where is the Iconic Chaos? Classic Prontera was legendary precisely because of its organic, teeming market chaos. The rush to secure a prime vending spot near the South Gate or the central fountain gave the capital a heartbeat.
- Sterile Vending Zones: Moving shops into copy-pasted, sterile market instances turns the game’s primary hub into an empty ghost town. It entirely misunderstands why players fell in love with Midgard's world-building in the first place.
- The "Modernization" Fallacy: If Gravity’s counter-argument is "We aren't trying to remake classic RO, we are building a new game," then mission accomplished: you’ve successfully designed a sterile environment that drives veteran players right back to private classic servers.
4. The Hybrid Skill Illusion: Great Concept, Exhausting Execution
To give credit where it’s due, the underlying mechanical premise of Zero—blending 2nd and 3rd Job skill interactions and rebalancing core abilities—is actually a brilliant game-design concept on paper.
However, the journey to reach that content is so tedious and soulless that most players burn out long before they ever get to experience it. Why market a game as an "Authentic Subscription Experience Like the Old Days" when the core progression loop has been fundamentally rewritten into a modern, automated mobile-game hybrid?
Conclusion & The Question for Gravity
If players wanted an idle auto-battler, they would play one of the dozen mobile spin-offs already on the market. We play Ragnarok Online for the community chaos, the manual skill expression, the player economy, and the earned sense of progression.
Where is the logic in taking a legendary MMORPG formula, stripping away its social friction, forcing rigid job requirements, and replacing player interaction with an official botting system?
Ragnarok Zero Global has incredible potential in its itemization and skill reworks, but until Gravity realizes that automation and over-sanitized systems destroy MMORPGs, players will simply abandon ship and return to classic alternatives where the soul of Midgard is still alive.

Classic Crafting
Helloo, I'm new to Ragnarok (I'm playing Ragnarok orgin classic) and I somehow can't craft any weapons. How do you guys get weapons? (I'm currently an assasin)

Classic It's time to go back. Veins is calling.
It's been a while since I play this game. Raiding dungeons with my friends, participating on weekly siege events, playing RO BGM via Winamp.
I take a break for now to check the RO Renewal (iRO Chaos) and pre-renewal after hectic work schedule. I recall taking a screenshot of the game few days ago and forgot to upload it due to work schedule.

WASD, Dual pet Tether Job, Modernization, Proper Rain, Fog, Auction House, Costume Archive, Monster Compendium, Nightmare Map State, unique equipment and stats systems, 32-Bit range colors vs original's 16... and so much more, all done in client - Luna Obscura Update
AI Disclaimer: AI is used for research, as a tool to properly map the client and find where to do each part. Work on luna is done by hand and AI is currently restricted to placeholder asset (world map menu) or Monster Cards (way too many to make and pay for).
All else, UI, systems, mechanics, mobs and such are done by hand.

Rebuilding RO from scratch as a solo dev
I played this game a long time ago, in my childhood. I've always thought Ragnarok Online deserves a real rebuild.
I've spent months rebuilding RO from scratch in Godot with C#. It mounts the original data.grf and parses the maps, models, sprites, effects and music at runtime. Nothing is redrawn.
My current plan is a classic ARPG, single-player. I want to focus on what classic Ragnarok was about: the journey, the leveling, and the party play (party building with bots).
Where it's at:
- data.grf parser (done)
- Day/Night cycle + Dynamic lighting (done, probably need more optimization)
- WASD control with Free camera + target-lock combat (done)
- World map / minimap + navigation (done)
- Pre-renewal + Renewal Support (done)
- Muti-language support (Partly implemented, translation text not done)
- NPC script parser (partial)
- Jobs / Skills / Quests (WIP)
- Controller Support (not yet)
What do you think the look of it? Any suggestions are welcome. which town should I work on the Day/Night cycle next? One per comment — I'll count votes here and on the video. Cheers!
