Hello RX100 community
I'm considering to buy a new RX100 VII, and not a second hand one. Second hand is about 800€ ≈ 900 USD, while a new one is about 1000€ ≈ 1100 USD. I've had two second hand previous, but they were always a bit worn, no warranty and such.
Would you spend 1000 usd for a new camera that is technologically 7 years old?

I got this camera used off of eBay about 4 months ago. Just took it on a trip and was hiking with it. For five days it was totally fine and functional, and I treated it carefully and have a pretty hard case for it when I stow it.
After I got home I opened the case to find it like this. Not sure what this issue is but I placed a thin rubber band around it for now to keep it together.
It’s an m3. Does anyone have any fixes? This is such a new camera I’m nervous it’s already damaged.

I picked up an open box M7 from Best Buy in "excellent" condition. I later noticed horizontal lines similar to noise in an old TV or VHS in the viewfinder. After a quick search, it appears to be a common issue. Unfortunately, there are no other "excellent" condition open box cameras in my area so my options would be to upgrade to a sealed camera and pay the difference, downgrade to a "good" or "fair" open box camera that's available in the area, send it in for repair (I did get the Geek Squad plan), or simply return it.
For those that have sent in in their cameras for repair, was the issue fully resolved or did it still persist? For those that left it alone as it does not appear to affect the actual image, did the viewfinder progressively get worse? Are there any comparable cameras in the market (most interested in the zoom capability in the point and shoot form factor)?
Thanks!

Hello! I would love to receive some advice from more experienced photographers on what would be a better choice for a point and shoot camera for a beginner/ simple to just set up and go and shoot. Ive looked at a lot and simply cant settle.
I would love to not have to spend more than $700 ish. So ive been looking used and such. However I do want this to last and be my one camera so if its worth the money...
First and foremost its gotta be pocketable/small. I’m ultimately looking for an iPhone replacement to take both photo and video of my kids, everyday moments, and landscape photography from hikes and camping, travel. Something i can take everywhere with me that has nice pics and vid doesn't need to be crazy but nice quality. Because of that i was looking into the Sony rx100 v or vii.
I do have basic photography knowledge and editing, but I very much do not enjoy messing around a lot with settings and post editing. Thats why I love the SOOC of Fujifilm cameras however they are quite big for me and not sure about video, especially compared to size of the sony rx100.
I was also comparing with the canon g7x mark iii or the canon g5x mark ii. Just because the photos sooc on those seem a bit warmer and softer which i like but not sure on its video either.
I LOVE that the Sony and canon have a viewfinder. Kind of one reason i hate taking pics on phone, don't want to get a camera that i also just stare at a screen. Idk though maybe it wont be as nice as i imagine it to be.
Built in flash is preferred, however a small flash mounted is not a big deal to me.
Can anyone comment on the low light capabilities of the sony rx100 vii? Seen that it's not as great as the rx100 v. Which i don't need crazy good specs for everything but if I am taking pics and vids indoors in low light of family or evening out on the town and such want it to be decent enough.
Ive also considered the sony zv-1 and zv-7f
Anyways Ik I’m kind of asking for a unicorn camera in every aspect and for it to be small and in budget which doesn't really exist. But based on the kinds of things i have mentioned does anyone have something to recommend that they think would suit me well enough?
Ultimately if its too big or complicated or photos are worse the my phone i just won't use it and I want to actually use it a lot. So maybe any recs on ones I haven't mentioned or something cheaper perhaps. Or if the Sony rx is really THE IT camera for this, any particular settings you'd recommend to just set and go shoot without needed post editing?
Thank in advance, pls be nice.
Or should i just get thr kodak pixpro fz55 and call it a day

Bought the camera from Best Buy in 2023. Used it on a couple of trips, but it's way too complicated for me. In May 2025, I sent it to Precision Camera (authorized Sony depot) to be cleaned and checked for any deficiencies. It was cleaned, and reported to be in good working order. Now I want to sell the camera, along with the 3 batteries and a charger. Where do folks think is the best place to sell it?

Hi,
just a quick question which might have already been asked but I could not find the answer unfortunately:
When shooting RAW only with the RX100 viii at widest angle I get dark corners in the image looking like the image doesn't cover the whole sensor. In consequence I ve to crop every picture later on.
Unfortunately, I don't notice such an effect in the display or viewfinder.

The python approves of the RX100! Gave me some nice poses in front of the lens :)

I loaned my camera out and it was dropped breaking the screen. I ordered a genuine replacement screen assembly which worked when I first plugged it in before reassembly... Somehow I bent the ribbon cable incorrectly during assembly and cut what I presume is the data portion because I now only get a lit up screen without signal. 😞
