Destination Wedding

Hi! Looking for help/advice/guidance!

My fiancé and I are traveling to San Juan to visit and tour the area in thoughts of having a destination wedding there. A few questions: 1. Does anyone have recommendations of LARGE welcome party venues? (Maybe a rooftop that fits 150 people) 2. Is anyone familiar with hotels that are used for wedding room blocks? NOT as a wedding venue but where our guests would stay for the weekend? 3. Any other recommendations of places we should check out while there!

Travel the week after Christmas

My family and I will be visiting Puerto Rico the week after Christmas. We plan to stay in San Juan through Wednesday 12/30 and then explore another area of the island for the rest of the week. Which cities on the island will have the most restaurants/bars/tourist sites open on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day? Is it better to plan to go east or west?

Is an Air BnB on Playa Azul in Luquillo safe for a family. Is it safe to explore outside of the house? In the daytime? Night time?

Do Cruise Passengers Clog Old Town San Juan?

I'm a travel advisor crafting a trip for clients who want to visit Puerto Rico in late Jan / early Feb. I'm looking at San Juan since it's a shorter trip, only 5 days / 4 nights.

They want to avoid crowds, so I'll avoid booking their trip during Fiestas de la Calle San Sebastián, but I'd love to get local insight into how much crowding is caused by cruises coming to port. It looks like there are no cruises docking on Feb 1 — is it worth factoring that in and scheduling any Old Town activities that day to avoid crowds and cruise-related traffic? Or do excursions disperse enough across the city that it's not noticible?

Culebra on Thanksgiving?

I just booked nine days in Puerto Rico for my family of three adults and two kids, and I am now tasked with the exciting and daunting task of when to slot all of the things we want to do.

Culebra is the part of the trip I am most looking forward to. I have been before and just loved it and vowed to return. I will need to work remotely for parts of the nine day trip (I work for myself).

Because I will be able to be offline on Thurs/Fri of thanksgiving week, I am thinking of scheduling our Culebra days on Thanksgiving day and on the day after Thanksgiving, with the assumption that weekdays are less crowded on Culebra than weekends are.

But will that still be true given the Thanksgiving holiday?

Should we take a ferry on Wednesday before Thanksgiving and return on Friday?

Is there anything else I should keep in mind about possibly being on Culebra on Thanksgiving? My family will want to eat out all of our meals while we were there and we do not need to do anything special on Thanksgiving (i.e. we will not be searching for a place that serves turkey).

I would be so grateful for any thoughts on timing considerations for a currently wide open nine days in PR over Thanksgiving (Nov 22 thru Dec 1). We have booked our rental car and our flights.

Cruise - 8 hour port day in San Juan

Is it a bad idea to rent a car and go to El Yunque for a few hikes? We arrive at 10 and I'll have to be back on the boat no later than 5:30.

I've considered renting a car to travel there myself and hike. I've also seen tour options (not through cruise) that pick up in San Juan to go to the park, including sliding rocks etc. Very on the fence about whether that is worth it vs. just going it alone.

I may be better off exploring San Juan and hitting a beach, but I just wanted to get people's thoughts. I love hiking and visiting this rainforest sounds awesome. My other port stops will give me plenty of beach time.

Solo traveling Puerto Rico in December

I’m planning to solo travel around Puerto Rico from early December through Christmas and New Year’s.
My plan is to spend about 2 weeks in Rincón surfing, then head to San Juan for the rest of my trip.

I’m pretty introverted, but I’m trying to push myself out of my comfort zone and meet new people. I’m excited about the trip, but also a little worried about getting lonely, especially during the holidays.

I was wondering how easy it is to meet people in Rincón and San Juan as a solo traveler. Are there any surf camps, bars, group activities, or social events you’d recommend?

Also, what’s the vibe like around Christmas and New Year’s? Is it easy to meet other travelers, or is it mostly people spending time with family and friends?

Would love any tips or recommendations! And if anyone’s going to be around during that time, I’d be down to hang out! (28f)

Activity recs for PR

My wife and I are going to San Juan for our honeymoon in two weeks. I have a close friend from Ponce who has given us a lot of recs, but so many it’s hard to sort through all his suggestions. We did rent a car so we can drive to some other parts of the island like Isabela, El Lajas, Rincón, Luquillo. We’re looking for must-see places and activities for our time there. We’ll be there for about 6 days. Please give us recommendations!! :)
First time in PR and we can’t wait.

Thanksgiving in Rincon

I'll be in PR Thanksgiving week. I'm planning to be in San Juan the day before Thanksgiving and in Rincon on Thanksgiving. Will there be restaurants open on the day of? I don't care if it's not Thanksgiving food. Will the art market still be going on?

Any tips for this time and area would be greatly appreciated.

Paradors, Bed and Breakfast or Hotel

Husband and I are considering our first trip to Puerto Rico over Christmas and New Year and we want to support the local community and not the big chains! We would rent a car and our budget is mid range. Any thoughts appreciated!

Commuter plane thoughts

Just wondering if I could get a local’s opinion, or even a frequent traveler, on how the intra island travel process goes.

Would it be worth it for instance, to fly from San Juan to Culebra rather than renting a car, to drive to catch a ferry over? Would it be more worth it to fly from SIG vs SJU?

First time in PR, traveling solo

I'll spend the weekend in PR and would like some recommendations. Found a nice Airbnb in Viejo San Juan, which seems to be a cool place. Open to suggestions, locals and frequent visitors. Pretty beaches won't hurt either.

Traveling to Vieques and considering logistics

San Juan where to stay

I am planning a family trip to san juan in march. Was anyone stayed in the Loiza area? Originally we were going to book a Airbnb in Condado but are now thinking of staying further out and renting a car. Pros and Cons of both options?

Anyone know a good plug in the area or a dispensary that doesn’t card?

I’m from Colombia so I just don’t have a U.S id to use for the tourist medical cards

Is mosquito bay worth the hassle?

Planning on January trip and would love to do the bioluminescent paddle. I'm aware of the 3 locations, Vieques being the best, new moon etc etc.

I'm a bit irritated when I found out the ferry to Vieques does not leave from San Juan. I wanted an easy relaxing trip, the thought of having to book an additional shuttle, and getting onto a new island without local transport just don't sound very appetizing to me. In additional I would HAVE to round trip back to San Juan b/c there is no cheap flight or cruise out of Vieques for my next leg of trip.

I had thought about asking the tour company who does the Yunque tour to just drop me in Ceiba, or book a shuttle from Yunque to Ceiba, but I'm not sure if the timing would line up with ferry schedule.

For people who's gone to both Vieques and Laguna Grande, (Merritt Island too if you've been), how much better is Vieques compared to Laguna Grande, or Merritt Island?

Bonus question- do I need to anticipate no hot water in most airbnb? I was originally planning on staying longer, but not sure now about the hot water situation.

TIA

Puerto Rico in Jan with 4 young kids

Hello! I booked an Airbnb in Rio grande for 4 days and then Isabela for 5 days in January. We usually go to Florida every winter, but wanted to try something new. We rented a van and like to adventure, but also are content with letting the kids swim and hanging at beaches. My kids are used to traveling and hiking and we are all planning to just bring a backpack each to keep it simple. They are 9,7,5,3. What are some must dos/sees? My older kids want to snorkel. I love scenery and turquoise beaches and hiking. My husband loves a good restaurant where the kids can play while we have a drink. Thanks so much!

Looking for advice on places to stay with a large family. I found an Airbnb in Ciales I really like but I’m not sure if that’s a good area to stay in. Anyone have recommendations?

Ideas/suggestions/baby moon

Hi, my partner and I are going to Puerto Rico in Nov, we’ll have 6 full days. I’ll be 25 wks pregnant. Looking for some suggestions. We both like nature, animals, music, and food. I also like architecture and night walks in cities.

Looked into the bioluminescent bays, but it’s off the list bc I’m pregnant (limited options). Also sounds like sargassum is affecting the dinoflagellates. We’re hoping to hike and snorkel.

We prefer Airbnbs or smaller hotels. Never been to an all-inclusive but doubt that would be enjoyable for us. I’d rather explore a new place than be stuck at a resort that could be in any tropical location. Hoping to say in at least two spots but no more than three. Will probably rent a car.

Food wise taste is paramount. Don’t get me wrong a nice atmosphere and fancy food is great. That stuff comes in second place. In Mexico hands down best food we had were two different taco stands away from the main tourist areas.

TL:DR - pregnant 2nd trimester, suggestions for food, snorkeling, hiking and anything else interesting. Don’t want an all inclusive resort.
