Announcement Folders, URL matching and compromised password alerts are rolling out for Proton Pass

We’re releasing three Proton Pass updates that a lot of you have been asking for: folders, customizable autofill with URL matching, and compromised password alerts. They’re rolling out gradually over the next few days, so if you don’t see them yet, update to the latest version and check back.

Folders are one of our most requested features, so they go first. You can now sort vault items into folders and subfolders, nest them as deep as you need, and drag and drop items between folders and between vaults. Search and filters work inside a folder and its subfolders too. Folder sharing is on the roadmap but isn’t here yet, so for now a folder follows the sharing settings of the vault it lives in.

Folders are available on Pass Plus, Pass Family, Proton Unlimited and the business plans (Pass Professional, VPN and Pass Professional, and Proton Workspace). If you’re on Free or Pass Essentials you can’t create folders, but you can use the ones in vaults that someone on a paid plan has shared with you.

Autofill is now configurable by site. The basic options are matching the parent domain and subdomains, matching the exact host only, or never autofilling on a URL you pick. The advanced modes take wildcard patterns and regular expressions. You can also choose which fields get filled, so sensitive information stays out of forms where you don’t want it.

Compromised password detection joins the existing checks for weak and reused passwords and breached email addresses. Proton Pass compares a password’s fingerprint against a list of fingerprints from known data breaches published by security researchers, and alerts you if there’s a match so you can change it. The comparison runs locally on your device, so no one at Proton has access to your passwords or anything else in your vaults.

Well, at least for Visionary users...

It defaults to base domain, so you don't even have to go fix everything one by one unless you want to tweak it.

Some huzzahs from all the Bitwarden converts such as myself.

Discussion Proton Pass URL and app matching is pretty bad and unreliable

Imported stuff from other password manager with intent to switch over to Proton Pass just to be disappointed it just doesn't detect logins for whole bunch of Android apps as well as webpage URLs that other password manager detected perfectly to then detect input fields. Proton Pass just flops at that and I verified them side by side, both had same URI/URL listed yet Proton Pass just didn't detect it. I had to manually do it and even after it didn't offer to correct or add to stored login like other password manager always does when you manually tell it to input something and it asks if I want to add or update the entry.

Was thinking how to deal with stupid synergy of Proton Pass having same login credentials as e-mail which would then also be recovery method on most services, but this further prevents me from even going into that rabbit hole. If it can't reliably detect and input logins, then it's not really a functioning password manager.

Extension Help Password for local router's site not filled - why?

Hi,

I use ProtonPass with Firefox and I am pretty content with it. One thing that keeps bugging me: ProtonPass does not fill out the password for my router's webpage. It open the page (a local IP address), the site is recognized as I can see at the extension's icon, but even after selecting it from the popup coming up at the password field it is not entered. I am sure this worked some weeks ago. The local site is http (which is activated in my settings). Any ideas what may cause it?

I use proton pass in android as main password manager that uses autofill service, then use keepassdx as backup if proton fail to detect.

Discussion Razer also prevents the use of alias emails

Just attempted to replace my regular email address with an alias, but didn't even get to the email verification part. Both passmail.net and passinbox.com are considered invalid.
