If you like MoL, give The Years of Apocalypse a go

I keep trying to get into Hundred Reigns, but it feels like all the side characters receive a lobotomy any time the MC shows up, so that he can look like a hyper competent mastermind.

Is it finished? It’s one of the strengths of Mother of Learning.

Yep, it just finished!

Yay! I’ll check it out. Thank you.

I did! It was very good and very different despite having the same premise. I loved the description of the psychological toll and the darkness of the series - very realistic and I loved the OPness of the MC by the end. But I still prefer MoL because of the premise - Zorian accidentally joining the loop showing that he wasn’t some special chosen one, just a guy made his progression so much sweeter.

Read the first book and dropped it. Not as good of characters as MoL and the same story beats.

Definitely this! I just finished it yesterday and I think it's my favorite read of the year.

Bonus points for it is that it's actually finished in this sea of ongoing series that is progression fantasy.

Glad it still holds up for ya. For me the ending is what seals the 10. Rare to see a long serial stick the landing that cleanly.

It's like all good endings. Too little text, too much for me to think about what could still be written.

Everybody wins… sorta.

Yeah. I think every 2-4 years or so I'll give it a reread. I came back to it at the beginning of this year and it was so good.

I dropped it after book two it was not for me. But I’m glad you got enjoyment out of it.

Too much of a slog

Read Years of the Apocalypse mate. They're both so good.

10/10 is fair. I still think the character work on the side cast is what makes it special more than the pure progression.

My favorite book by far.

Also I kept seeing YoA popping as recommendation and started reading it and partway through the first book. So far MoL is still far better IMO. Perhaps because I love the MC in MoL even in the early part of the series.

The Years of the Apocalypse is a better time loop story, buy I still like Mother of Learning.

Is the third book written yet? Like on RR or patreon or something? I love loved the first book. The second was a bit of a slog for me but clinched it in the end.

Yes the rest of the series is on Royal Road but I'm waiting for Kindle releases to read 3 to 5.

The full series is written. Books 1 and 2 are on Amazon and books 3-5 are on RR.
