My boyfriend is about to go into prison, for 3 years (as long as the judge accepts the plea deal). Im moving into his house and taking over his mortgage while he's gone. (No biggie. I wanted to move anyway, im happy to do it, its a win for both of us). He once spent 10 days in county jail like, 10 yrs ago. Other than that. He's always made bail and never made it past booking. Ive sat 30 days in my longest bid in county jail and many long weekends.
Needless to say he's scared shitless, and i remember that feeling all too well. Ive been in AA recovery for 3 years now and I've seen many others come in the program with much harsher stories than I ever could imagine. I lnow theres life after prison but he obviously cant see that far ahead.
He thinks therapy is a joke, he's isolated, he's full of fear. Im walking on eggshells. He's asking me to reassure him multiple times a day I can keep his house while he's gone (im more than capable) but he doesnt really remember that its either me taking over the mortgage or its going to foreclosure if i dont take over. Im so confused over the constant questioning. Like, he was a foster kid with no other family. Im his only hope. He says he trusts me. And Ik he does.
I need some help to better serve him. I need some outside assistance, im looking for anything. Like... if there are online zoom meetings for men going into/coming out of prison, thats the only thing my creative mind can come up with.
I JUST got him applied for state insurance hoping this will fast track health services even when he's inside. He's 29 days away from his plea hearing.
Anyone with advice or suggestions? I can see he's living with the "impending doom" and there's nothing I can do to help him.
