Independent researchers at Graphika examined the claims and found no significant change in activity among the political communities they studied. The widely reported drop in Russian bot traffic largely involved automated web crawlers, not political trolls.
Russian disinformation is a legitimate concern, but spreading an unsupported story because it fits your political beliefs is hardly fighting misinformation. It's contributing to it.
