Frats allow it, that’s for sure. And that’s gross. But there are no sizable groups promoting it. It doesn’t mean the culture shouldn’t change, but vast majority of people agree - rape is wrong.
In other words, if there isn’t a group of people out there advocating for the Cornell 7.. it’s less likely people are going to feel the need to yell from the rooftops how wrong it is. You don’t really have too many people to convince that rape is bad..
This whole post is engagement bait so i feel silly but:
Fraternities have a long history of date rape and coercion culture, even long in the past there was a lot of colleges that encouraged the fraternities to prey on sororities. Alot of people know this, most people agree rape is wrong yah, alot of people, including in this thread have a really awful grasp of what constitutes rape.
Scroll down a little then lol, even beyond that alot of grifters are pushing the narrative that this situation was "someone who had sex and then regretted it and is call it rape", idk it definitely seems as though there atleast a minority that is vocal enough and feels that way that we are having this conversation to begin with.
I saw one of those comments too. There have been cases, as rare as they are, where women have lied about not giving consent. I tend to believe the women, first. Then, wait for the facts to come out. Some will believe the men, and hopefully change their minds if the evidence proves them wrong.
Also I believe the point is if these people cared about women they would be advocating for the victim and charges/punishment for the 7 individuals who carried out the act, and a better response from the colleges/universities in general.
But, I can say that about anything. Have you been promoting equal rights for women in India? Or do you just not really care about women? People can only advocate for so much.
Just because the same crowd that is the loudest about women’s sport isn’t the loudest on every other women’s issue, doesn’t mean they don’t care.
Fair. I guess I think you’re just painting with too broad a brush. There is nuance here, and there are groups of people who both believe women’s sports should be for cis women and are outspoken about situations like the Cornell 7. I do get your point though.
I don’t want to seem cruel, but most democrats don’t think trans women belong in women’s sport. Do you also think most democrats aren’t outraged by this incident?
