Arts and crafts Turrets- Turrell

Has anyone noticed that the Turrets in the first portal game appear in a setting similar to art works of James Turrell? James Turrell is a modern artist who ... among his works creates environments of ambient light filtered through squares in ceilings. In the first portal game x's on the ceilings indicate "jumping" the Turrets through putting a portal in the ceiling. Later in the game the turrets appear under squares of ambient light appearing on the ceiling over the turrets. Could Portal be engaging in some intentional wordplay between Turrets and Turrell? Could this be some kind of secret meaning encoded into the game?

I could maybe see that. I think the overhead portals are just because it’s the most logical point to ambush them from using the cubes. Not sure about the other thing.
