Psychologically speaking, this man thinks everything is a television show. He gets his information from television (news) and he knows television is produced (fiction - reality TV - etc) and he conflates the two. He is so busy being a narcissist that the entire “rest of the world” is the information coming out of this little box in his room. He believes news is “fake news” because if it’s not the thing that HE willed into existence by thinking it, then of course it’s “fake.” Anything he wills to be true is the only reality. He had enough money growing up to have people who made this happen for him, and now he has an army. He has ALWAYS been delusional. So delusional that the weak minded believe his confidence means he MUST know something that they don’t know, and they exalt him. This is now mass delusion.
The history books by the time I am dead will have it much more thoroughly spelled out. And due to human nature, we will keep doing this throughout the entire human timeline…
This is the story of the dictator who believes his own delusion.

People forget all he wanted to do was be on TV
He spent the 80s and 90s failing at every business venture under daddys control. Failed casino, steaks, water, airplanes, no NFL deal, overpaying to get his name on a building, ect.
Then in 2000 he got what he wanted : the apprentace. A sucessful show where he didnt have to be competent to succeed. He got to sit on the top and judge others without repurcusion and have the producers do all the work. And he got seen as a businessman while playing a fake one.
Then that was taken away from him, all he wanted. He was back in a world which reqiured work and competency. He had none. So he retreated to TV again and fell into the Fox News rabbit hole. He watched so much he memorized the way they talk. And he saw how the talking heads on the network worked. They would include former politicians, people who lost their elections, say anything without being held accountable. Exactly what he wants.
But Rupert Murdoch was playing a tight game at the time. While Fox News would say anything to rile up the base, the politicians in power would use tonwd down language to keep their hands clean. Then Trump jumped in the race. Not to win but to spin off Trump TV, which was more set up than his campaign. So he spouted what he heard watching Fox 10 hours a day. And it worked because it went to a Fox audience that were riled up by fox but let down by the political speach. Trump was the perfect parrot to just say what they want to hear.
Trump didnt come up with Drain the Swamp. He repeated it after someone said it in a rally and the crowd cheered. So he kept saying it. And he kept repeating anything they wanted to hear. Build the Wall with no plans of how to do it.
Then the calls came in, Epstein, Russia, Isreal, Saudis. People that look into political candidates for any amount of blackmail and with Trump it was easy. And Trump had no plans for the presidency, so he just had to play along with what they want.

Fear. Fear of the other, fear of the unknown, fear of the military, fear of their friends and neighbors, fear of change, fear of brown people, fear of their own repressed sexuality(that's a big one)
Lot of fear really, just a bunch of itchy little cowards
3
u/iMecharic 2d ago
Fear and hate. You can’t just claim people were scared of the other, they very much hate.
3
u/TK_Games 2d ago
Oh, my mistake, I operate on Star Wars rules in which hate is a given byproduct of fear. I was digging into the root cause of the hate, not saying it isn't there. There is absolutely hate. Anecdotally, a majority of it is motivated by a fear of what isn't understood coupled with a pride that tells them that fear is rational when it is not. And that 'narcissistic bias' (that everyone subconsciously has, btw. Imo we all should be questioning it constantly, but that's a different subject), fuels this idea of, "Oh, not only is there this 'other', and you compete for resources and their way of life affects yours tangentially and that's a little scary." Right? Nobody likes change.
But the kicker isn't there. The kicker is in the 'other' is also somebody you wronged. Because you wronged them hard. You expect the retribution, and that's even scarier. So you deny, 'Oh that never happened. You're remembering it wrong'. And what that does is it just makes it worse, it compounds that fear until you're not thinking straight. You need to get 'them' before they get you, because they're going to get you. That turns into hostility. That hostility, is taught to others and and suddenly this nameless fear, that nobody could identify becomes organized hate. I work rehabilitating assholes and I see it over and over and over. They think they're the heroes in the story, it's my job to make them realize they aren't. I like my job

I was watching a show yesterday and one of the characters said that she had come to believe that there were only two reasons people do anything - love and fear. This really resonated with me and helped me to realize how often I'm actually afraid and how that fear drives my interactions with others, particularly my loved ones. Definitely food for thought.

u/kbeks 2d ago
As a former fan of the apprentice, that was apparent from the jump. And that’s the production team putting him in the best possible light, they still couldn’t hide that if he decided he wanted to blame someone or not, he would. If it went against what his advisors said initially, he’d always make sure to get them to say “yes sir, good call sir, tough decision but you’re right, sir”. He always sought and received that feedback. Every. Single. Time.
It’s not just that they say yes, btw, he seeks the yes. He needs them to tell him that he did a good job in order to feel whole. I’m sure there’s a ton of shrinks who would love to get access to him for a long series of conversations about how little affection daddy showed him.

Pod que no los dos?
I was talking to a coworker and he said the exporting country pays the tariff. I said no, the importing company pays the tariff, and then they increase the price of the goods so as to recoup their costs. He didn’t believe me. I sat the man down, I pulled up a few econ articles about the tariff process, he didn’t buy it. I found a Wall Street journal article on it. One of his trusted news sources. It said precisely what I had told him.
I saw a grimace, for a second, before an immediate pivot to “at least he knows what a woman is.”
Wait wait wait. Hold on. He lied to you. To your face. Over. And over. And over again. He lied to America. He got his media apparatchik to amplify this lie and beat you over the head with it, but you so quickly pivot to some culture war nonsense without even so much as a shrug?
Idk maybe I’m a special kind of petty. The only time I voted republican was for a certifiably insane lady who was running against a Democrat for city council who happened to lie to my face. About redistricting, and then he tried to run as a spoiler when he lost the primary. Failed both times. But that really pissed me off, so when he got onto another ballot for lower office, I damn sure wasn’t going to vote for him then. She’s crazy but at least I know where she stands. I don’t expect my coworker to suddenly vote blue, but damn, at least reflect for a second…
Long story short, yeah, they all need to be studied. Probably me too.

9
u/CaptainBayouBilly 2d ago
Coming to grips with how rightwing fascists lie is important. They don't care if they're caught, they don't need to believe the lie, they need it to be uttered. Speaking it gives it a magical ability to fracture reality. They aren't trying to convince you, they are forcing their will. Regardless of factuality, they have forced you into a different context- where instead of dismissing and crushing the disinformation, the battle is determining if the liar is being serious.
In all cases, it doesn't matter if the liar believes, or intends to convince, the reality is they have broken the veil and created an unreality.
27
u/gdshaffe 2d ago
Long years have taught me that trying to parse what a narcissist truly believes vs. what they know they are lying about is largely futile. "Reality" only exists for them insofar as it is willing to adhere to the Prime Directive, which is to reinforce the Narcissist's perfection.
38
u/Bezulba 2d ago
Why do you think the Military will do any of that? They've purged anybody they think might not be on board with the MAGA movement..
Besides, do you want to have a military that feels it's it's duty to keep a check on the government? That's a sure way to end up with a military dictatorship because they will inevitably believe they'll be able to do better
18
u/VoxCacophoni 2d ago
The military has an oath to fight enemies both foreign and domestic.
I agree that the military has been ideologically purged by this lot, but strictly speaking every military is supposed to watch against overreach or usurpation by civil leaders, much the same way that a referee is meant to enforce the rules during a football match.
The problem here is that the military hasnt acted to enforce the rules since Reagan.
7
u/LuxNocte 2d ago
Holy shit, no.
The "foreign and domestic enemies" but was added in 1861, referring to people who literally take up arms in revolt against the union.
The military is very explicitly underneath civilian leadership because they are very explicitly not the referees. That way of thinking is the opposite of the intentions of the Constitution.
I'm curious how you think the military "acted to enforce the rules" under Reagan. Are you referring to illegally selling weapons to Iran?
11
u/VoxCacophoni 2d ago
I'm saying that they didn't enforce the rules under Reagan. Since he was negotiating with Iran to hamstring Carter before he even took office, ie committed treason, he never ought to have been allowed anywhere near power to begin with.

u/tea-drinker 2d ago
Firing on the shipwrecked is literally the textbook example of illegal orders that must not be followed in the literal textbook they use to learn about illegal orders and not following them.
18.3.2.1 Clearly Illegal Orders to Commit Law of War Violations. The requirement to refuse to comply with orders to commit law of war violations applies to orders to perform conduct that is clearly illegal or orders that the subordinate knows, in fact, are illegal. For example, orders to fire upon the shipwrecked would be clearly illegal.
- Department of Defence Law of War Manual (https://media.defense.gov/2023/Jul/31/2003271432/-1/-1/0/dod-law-of-war-manual-june-2015-updated-july%202023.pdf)
Yet, they fired upon the survivors of the "drugs" boats destroyed near Venzuela.
The notion the military will not obey every order given is not one you should plan on relying on.
3
u/Cargobiker530 2d ago
If we've learned anything in the last ten years we should have learned that sworn oaths don't mean shit. The U.S. Armed Forces, Congress, & Supreme Court all swore oaths to uphold and defend the Constitution and they handed it all over to an obvious moron & traitor.
2
u/Dagordae 2d ago
Oaths aren’t worth the paper they’re printed on. Turns out anyone can just say anything, they’re not mystically binding.
The military has already been following his illegal orders. You know that time they blew up a boat then blew up the survivors? That’s very literally a textbook example of illegal orders they are absolutely not supposed to follow.
The idea that the military would stand against illegal orders and so on is simply not an idea that has any basis in reality. They talk a big talk but the cases of soldiers(much less generals) refusing to follow bad orders are incredibly few and number and always end with the military doing its best to destroy the dissenter. Usually succeeding.

u/intangibleTangelo 2d ago
as a trained trump translator, i'm legally bound to point out that there is another interpretation of what he's saying. he may be saying:
i forced them to agree because i'm strong and i bullied them into it.
if that's the case, it's one of those "nobody had the courage to do what i did" kind of statements. in terms of the ceasefire, it's a distinction without a difference. in terms of his mental state and worldview however, it's fairly consistent with his lack of rigor or attention to highly significant details, and not necessarily an admission that he made it all up.
i can't wait until he stops talking.

So, there was almost certainly some level of fuckery involved, but I still agree that pretending that's the only (or even primary) reason he won is nonsense. That’s because Republicans have made the entire US about Trump. And TRUMP is a paper tiger. He always has been, his entire “you’re fired” tough business guy trope is a character he plays. While he seeks validation from the famous and connected in Hollywood. The insecure little boy that begs hookers to stay with him, while he lashes out at women in public. Trump is a colossal pussy flailing around making noise and throwing tantrums to disguise his insecurities, he’s the biggest paper tiger there is. He’s the literal definition of it.
