Hey, everyone! I'm feeling a playthrough of Ultra Moon coming on, and I'm looking for good suggestions for team members. My goal is to build something not unlike Cynthia's teams, super well rounded in stats, types, and aesthetics. I plan on starting with Primarina and I might actually use a Spiritomb I decided to breed a while back. I also tend to use Alolan Raichu, but I'm down for a little variety.

There are 134 days between today and when the pokemon bank officially breathes its last breath. I’ve decided to challenge myself by completing a living national dex in my copy of Ultra Moon. This will be my journal/log of my quest to “catch em all” on legitimate physical hardware before it becomes impossible.

I started this quest once right before the covid pandemic shut the world down. Unfortunately for me, I had an “essential” position during the lockdowns, and went from 40 to 60+ hours a week, causing my living dex quest to come to an abrupt halt. I’ve got a kid in grade school now, so my free time is a little strained, but I estimate I can carve out 2-3 hours at least 4 nights per week to work towards this goal. 

Hardware available: 2x “New” 3ds consoles, 1x DS lite, 1x GBA SP
Physical Cartridges (in release order): Ruby, Fire Red, Leaf Green, Diamond, Pearl, Black, White 2, Soul Silver, X, Y, Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire, Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, Ultra Moon. 
Virtual Console Games: Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold Silver, Crystal
Saves in post game with catching/hatching teams: Ruby, Leaf Green, Pearl, Black, Soul Silver, Y, Omega Ruby, Sun - VC Blue, VC Yellow, VC Crystal.

I created a tracking spreadsheet to aid in completing each generation’s dex as I tackle them one by one, then migrated a batch of transfers into Pokemon Bank from my VC Yellow, VC Crystal, Y, and Omega Ruby save files. Then I sorted all generation 1 species in Pokemon Bank into national dex specific slots/boxes before I transfer anything into my final landing spot on a fresh save file on Ultra Moon.

I’ve got an optimized catching/breeding/hatching team, as well as a exp/money grinding team on pokemon Y and Pokemon Omega Ruby, so pokemon will drop into those games as needed.

Stage 1: Generation 1 dex
Current Progress : 141/151
Target Pokemon in current Generation: Squirtle, Weedle, Kakuna, Exeggutor, Hitmonlee, Seadra, Electabuzz, Kabuto, Kabutops, Mew.

Plan of action for the next session: 
VC Crystal - Fly to Lavender town and go north to Route 10, Catch 2x Electabuzz
Poketransporter - send Electabuzz to bank
Pokemon Y - Fly to Ambrette town and fish 2x Horsea (one to evolve into Seadra, one to evolve into Kingdra.
Pokemon Y - Hop over to Glittering Cave and smash-out 2x dome fossils for Kabuto
Pokemon Y - Visit friend Safari to catch 1x Kakuna and 1x Wartortle, and 3x Tyrogue (1 for Tyrogue, 1 for Hitmonlee, and 1 for Hitmontop later)
Pokemon Y - Route 12 to catch Exeggcute 
Pokemon Y - Fly to route 7 and breed for Squirtle and Weedle
Pokemon Y - Fly to Lumiouse City to purchase a leaf stone (evolve for Exeggutor)
Pokemon Y - Battle at Cafe Le Wow to level/evolve Hitmonlee, Hitmontop, Kabutops and Seadra

This leaves me with 1 gap - Mew (mew is unobtainable and not required), effectively completing my generation 1 Dex.

Next Step…
Prep 4x boxes in pokemon bank and filter bank refugee pokemon into generation 2 slots/boxes.
Update tracking spreadsheet and  outline my Generation 2 hit list.

i don't know how many soft rest I have done so far at this point and I am currently lock in for a shiny fossil pokemon for Pokemon moon and I hope I get a shiny shieldon so and I haven't gotten one before and for the shiny fall season Phantum I didn't get it and also currently taking a break from that hunt for a while

8.7.26 - 8.13.26 ~ 45 Hours

First team member for my mono-ghost/Halloween themed Moon DTQ.

Only my second Masuda hunt, I forgot how quick hatching is in these games. 1622 eggs for 45 hours really isn’t bad compared to the dreadful 150 hours I spent hatching 2000 Beldum eggs in Alpha Sapphire.

Back in 2017 when hatching just 3 eggs for my USUM living Dex I got a random shiny Rowlet. It’s cool to get another one to be able to play through the game with 10 years later.

Normally I only hunt full odds but with the Bank shutdown rapidly approaching I’m planning on chilling out with some method hunts to put more focus on my bigger full odds goals and Dex completion.

Im doing some unfinished business in ultra sun before pokemon bank ends. Should I evolve my shiny Poipole here or should i send it to pokemon home and evolve it in pokemon sword? Would it be worth more?

hey everyone!

i've already played Pokémon Sun, putting around 50 hours into it, and even got some event Pokémon and other special mons. i tried Ultra Sun too, but eventually lost motivation because it felt like i was replaying an expanded version of the same game.

i'm now planning my next Pokémon playthroughs and wondering whether Ultra Sun is worth giving a shot instead.

does it offer enough new content, story changes and post-game stuff to justify another run, or will it feel too similar to Sun?

for context, i already have a Rockruff with Own Tempo, so getting Dusk Form Lycanroc is a reason for me to replay Alola.

would you recommend it, or should i move on to the next region?

Was hunting for 4 hours before it finally decided to show up, I had to decimate the Bagon population to get it.

I tried doing it and got around the 25th battle with Lele, Naganadel and Primarina. Mainly want the ribbon for Naganadel and Type Null

so this picture is from nov 2023. I was playing pokemon moon and when switching pokemon I noticed that it said primarinas water moves are super effective against staryu. i took a picture and thought I had to be missing something. then I realized I could ask Reddit today when I saw the picture again. I feel like theres a reasonable explanation I’m just too dumb to notice but I want to ask anyway. since it was so long ago idk if I tried the moves to see if it actually would be super effective or not. so is this a glitch?

Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter should have been an offline experience. Once the servers shut down, a lot of content would be lost to time if we didn't have homebrew.

Took the last week to write a patch so everyone that still likes to play after 27 Febuary 2027 will still be able to.

Im trying to evolve happiny but when I try to give her the oval stone it just says unable. I got her by catching her as an ally while battling igglybuff, if that makes any difference. Any help is much appreciated!

Hey so I've been shiny hunting rockruff in ultra moon for about 3 weeks with absolutely no shiny, I have an exeggutor and have been using the SOS method, but is there any other way other than SOS to catch / get a shiny to spawn WITHOUT cheating? I'd really like to know so please help!! ;<

I obtained a copy of pokemon sun, the game had progress on it. I already transferred the pokemon they had to Pokemon bank, is there anything else you recommend me do before I start a new game, Ive never played this one before. I should note that sadly I don't have a second ds or a copy of moon (YET) so I'm just curious if there's any items I should look out to keep, so that if there is I can wait to get hold of a second copy and DS to transfer those things if it's worth it.

Just 19 more Pokémon to catch in Gen 7 & then I'm moving on to Gen 4 before Bank closes.
