I love having my collection organized to my liking! I used to have them all in Pokédex order, but with the newer games releasing dlc mons that order started looking off to me. For the most part it’s still Pokédex order, but the changes I made are:

- moving cross gen babies/evolutions next to the original form (example is moving Elekid & Electivire next to Electabuzz)

- pseudo legends are moved to the end of the generation group they came from, right before the legendaries

- and some miscellaneous changes are moving pokemon that are related next to each other like Enamorus next to the 3 other genies or Regigigas, Drago, & Eleki being moved next to the original gen 3 Regis

Dex numbers is the way to go imo. Easy to locate anything you wanna look for bcs its orders are always starters - early route encounters - some random bunch of stuff - pseudos or endgame encounters - legends/mythicals and repeats for every gen

At first it was National Pokedex Order (I had a living dex), with additional forms following that in the form of an appendix. Then I had "extras" by region.

However, it turns out I had A TON of extras, so I started to do boxes by each game/generation (memorializing each generation) with the order following each regional dex. Then extras were included at the end of each "run" in their own box in a kind of appendix. This made it so the majority of my mons had a "spot" and I could actually find them when I went looking for them.

I have so many extras. So, I get doing one in order. But then in your separate boxes. How you leave space enough for new guys. Like. I’m constantly shiny hunting (probably get about . Maybe do a shiny order and the. Just throw the rest together?

Well I usually try to have one game in a generation be the “main game” I collect my mons from and have that TID take precedence over the others in that generation in the event of a conflict (It’s usually the first game I have played in a generation)

They’re sorted according to the following:

  • regional dex sequence for that game (later generations, this became just the new pokemon because catching all 400+ mons resulted in too many duplicates and I didn’t need yet another ratatta)
  • evolutions that may have occurred in a later generation (ie a Magmortar)
  • alternate forms appendix by dex number
  • pokemon from other games in that generation that didn’t come from the main game but also don't have a spot in the main dex sequence.
  • any extras in that generation

I am generally shiny-agnostic when it comes to sorting, but if I have one then I usually have it occupy the main slot. I also move onto the next "box" once a grouping is complete rather than fill them all to the brim.

I have a much more complex ruleset I have been developing to govern this because I’m building an Origin Dex and trying to have as much as possible be caught by me. But this is the general gist.

I do this and I think it’s the most future proof sorting method. Not as much moving if a gen 1 pokemon gets a new form for example.

National dex all together (no forms included yet), regional forms (each gen gets their own box), Unown dex in its own box, other Pokemon with less than 15 forms all together in national dex order (Deoxys forms, Rotom forms, Minior forms, etc.), Vivillon forms in their own box, Alcremie forms in their own boxes, Female forms in their own boxes, and Gmax factor Pokemon in their own boxes.

Same deal for shinies just on their own page of Home. I have an Alpha dex too but I keep them in their native games. For other event and unique pokemon I keep them at the end of my home boxes.

Been wanting to separate shalphas for the longest. I like your method.

I currently have boxes for event pokemon, shinys, and pokemon that are special to me in some way.

I've tried doing a shiny dex and I do want one of every shiny but I like to use shinies in the games that I own from previous so then they get mixed up again and again. Along with thag I almost wanted to order them but dex number but that will take too long and then ill have to sort it again when I get more.

  1. first row of boxes are empty for pokemon Go deposits (when uploaded they launch into the first available space)
  2. Living National Dex
  3. boxes for extra legendaries, sorted by Generation
  4. forms, like Alolan, Galarian, Vivillon, Unown, etc
  5. Shiny mons
  6. a box dedicated to each

    generation’s starters

  7. A hot mess of everything else

lol. Hot mess.

The other thing I see is popular is a living SHINY national dex. But that scares me, and I don’t wanna go that hard

Living forms dex and shiny living forms dex are organised as per this spreadsheet.

Everything else is in categories like spare Shinies, spare Legendaries, spare GMAX, competitive mons etc

I’ve been meaning to look at the John Austin way.

They aren’t 🥲

There needs to be a way for a guest to log in and sort for you 😂 I found sorting my boxes cathartic

This is just proving I need to do a give away. 2,600 Pokémon. 600 shinies and 450 floettes. lol.

1

u/darth_n8r_ 1d ago

You've been genning lol. I think I'm just under 3k. But 800 of those are random junk. I've only got ~30 left to fill out my OT+all form+ pokeball living dex

u/Witty_Necessary7181 1d ago

I don’t gen. I have an 8bitdo controller that shiny hunt in za. Then I started gts trading for floettes because they are pretty much the currency used in gts. And use those for guys I don’t have. I catch about 30 shinies a night.

1

u/darth_n8r_ 1d ago

Oh dang that's impressive. I don't have the patience to hunt the gts lol

I keep all my shinies together starting with the last boxes (starting at box #300 and counting down). Other than that it’s pretty much random.

2

u/Witty_Necessary7181 1d ago

That’s exactly what I have right now

I customize and reorganize every gen. I prefer to keep certain groups and all evolution lines together (except for the Hisuian starters that i keep together). I also like to balance by row, so no line is broken by different boxes. I'll use certain combinations of Pokemon to keep a row/box even.

My first boxes are all starters, all grass, then fire, then water, then the Pikachu and Eevee lines.

I then prioritize keeping each line with its origin region and keeping lines with regional variants/evos (or paradoxes with the lines they resemble).

Then I'll fill out the remaining gen by changing patterns, color groups, type or shape groups in aesthetic patterns. I don't collect every form- just those with significant changes- types or full movesets/ability differences (so sets like all unown, all wormadam and lycanroc, but not mons that are just based on gender like jellicent that are otherwise the same).

Living dex (forms and gender diffs) then shiny dex (separate boxes for forms)

I am ordering them by number and it is rough.

I wish there was an auto-sort function.
