I worked really fkn hard on my first pixel landscape and was SO excited to post it last night. Woke up this morning to my post having been deleted and some mean comments. I wanted to share a video of my aseprite layers/animation in hopes that it would help show how much time I put into this.

I know it seems suspicious that something like this could be someone's first dabble into the medium. But like I said, I'm an acrylic landscape painter and have been for 15 years. Before that I did some digital art in high school, anime stuff and shit like that. So I had some experience with a drawing tablet too. I bought myself a new wacom intuos tablet for this and basically created it like I would a regular painting or drawing...first outlines and mid tones, then LOTS of shading. I wish I had a time lapse but I didn't think to do that. I'll be working on a winter scene soon and I'll be sure to take a timelapse this time!!

Some of those were made from collages from stock photos, some from artwork bought by the company, some are my original designs entirely. Either way, making it into a pixel art was my primary job.

Here are some screenshots of a small forest map area I've been working on for way too long.

There are still specific details that I feel like I need to improve upon, such as the giant tree just not matching the roots around it design-wise, or certain flora having different rendering quality because I've been working on this for a year (and have thus improved on my skills over time), but I'm happy to finally put the pen down and say I've finished this map scene, for now...

My goal is to make several hand-pixelated map environments that feel immersive to explore in, so no using tilesets for me.

jmw327 and Nathanpxls was a major inspiration for me as I adore their pixel artstyles and because I'm not an environmental artist, my strengths are in creature designs lol.

Anyways, I'd love to hear feedback.

Phantasy Star was definitely one of the most impactful games of my life, so I made some pixel art of Dark Falz!

Making pixel art at my spot, and walking through lit streets at night. This project that I made is kind of a reflection of how those moments feel sometimes.
