I’m starting an internship in Abbott’s Vascular Division in Clonmel this January and was wondering if anyone could give me some insight into the onboarding process.
I’ve completed my pre-employment medical but haven’t received my contract of employment or a job description yet. All I know so far is that my role will involve supply chain and continuous improvement.
For anyone who has worked at Abbott Clonmel or any of their other sites, I’d love to hear about your experience. What are the benefits like, what’s the work culture like, and more specifically, what’s it like for interns?
Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone, I just scheduled an interview for a senior scientist role. I’m reading some horror stories on here and wondering if it’s worth it and if I should continue for interview experience? I’m currently working as a clinical scientist (and have been full time for 1.5 years and part time for 5 years) for 45k and I have just completed my PhD so I’m looking for a salary to match. From reading here Thermofisher may not be the place to get that….

With the recent news from J&J about the future of Depuy Synthes, how do people think they’ll cope in today’s market against other competitors without the J&J backing or brand, and is this better or worse for CPL staff

Hello everyone,
I saw in post on [r/irishpersonalfinance](r/irishpersonalfinance) about whether employees have switched companies or stayed and how that affected their salary:
https://www.reddit.com/r/irishpersonalfinance/s/Kwd69bBY2m
TLDR: A lot comments were saying they moved company for a pay rise but the also mentioned they worked in tech. I know this practice is common in that sector as I’ve a few friends who work in tech.
I don’t have anyone really to turn to for advice on this in the biopharma sector.
Can ye share your experience of moving companies? Did you stay loyal and did it work out?
I work for a pharmaceutical company as a process engineer and want to make sure I grow my salary (as I’m aware corporations want to pay as little as possible)I’m 27 so I still have time to move before I get tied up with kids and settling down. I’m also considering contracting as the experience I’m getting currently would be suited towards startup/cqv/project engineer work.
Thanks!

I’m looking for advice on whether I should apply for an internal job opportunity. I’ve been at my current company for 2 years originally on a mat leave contract that ended up being 16 months. Then 6 months ago I was offered a permanent role and with it a promotion in title and salary increase, which I had not really been expecting.
Anyway 6 months down the line I’m not overly happy in the role, but I like the company. An internal job has come up in another country that I would love and it’s the same level as my current job. Salary is much the same and they are looking for 2 years experience aswell. The problem is I feel it’s too soon after my promotion that it will either make me look flighty or be blocked internally.
I was thinking I might speak with the hiring manager informally and see what they think. If I applied I would tell my manager. I feel guilty for trying to leave so soon when they gave me a chance but I want to be in a role I enjoy. Is it took soon or should I go for it ?

I’ve worked in two pharma companies now (that really were one pharma company not too long ago) but with both companies: everything needs to be done yesterday.
It genuinely feels like you’re breaking your back to get things over the line and someone has their foot on your neck pushing you to your breaking point.
I genuinely can’t do this for life. Is it the same in all companies in pharma?
I originally came from the tech world where projects were predicted accurately with buffer time. Unfortunately here it seems managers agree to unrealistic targets and whip their employees to make them look good.

Hi.
I’ve happily been accepted into Amgen dun laoghaires student placement programme for next year and was wondering if anyone here has experience with it (manufacturing floor based).
Im wondering if they offer flexibility for start/ end times as I hope to avoid rush hour traffic on my commute! My contract won’t be ready for several weeks so I’m not sure if this applies to interns.
Thanks.

Hi all, I have a level 8 in biopharmaceutical science with 5 years experience in a medical laboratory. I am querying moving to a different area and wondering what job titles/opportunities other people are in with the same degree or experience? Sorry if my wording isn’t the best 😅 thank you.

2 new rules posted - please read them
Only content related to pharma in ireland is allowed.
No more posts asking for jobs or referrals.

Anyone notice a huge increase recently in posts not related to Ireland recently? I'm guessing it's because of Eire not Ireland in the name. It's fairly cluttering up the sub, hopefully mods can do something about it.

Anybody known if Lilly are gonna be hiring again, i know theres been talk of a downturn with them but they just announced massive profits so surely site will just be repurposed to other drugs if original prospects fail

General question for the more experienced people here. Given the larger supply of MSc students/graduates in Ireland. Are companies seeing a tangible benefit/improvement in quality of work with MSc compared to BSc workers?

I'm looking for opinions from more experienced professionals on what they would do in this situation.
I started as a contractor for Company A about 2 weeks ago, but I also did an interview for Company B the day before starting Company A. Company B have now offered me a contract position (same role, negligible difference in pay). Would it be very unproffessional to hand in my notice after only 2 weeks? My fear is that I would burn bridges by doing this and make myself unemployable to Company A if I ever decide to return. All opinions are appreciated!
EDIT: Company A would let me save more money since I can stay with family but I would much prefer the location of Company B even if I would have to rent/commute.

I know that industry placements are much better in general, while research is better for those who want a PhD.
However, I have the chance to apply for a research placement concerning the development of 3-D in vitro tumour models for therapeutic testing. It would also be in France, so international stuff would be nice on the CV.
I don’t plan to get a PhD (maybe an industrial one in a few years), but given the nature of this particular research role I can’t tell if it would harm my applications to graduate programmes once I’m out of college. I already have a pretty bang average BSc (2:1, ~5 months in the lab, no previous internships) so if not getting industry will just harm me further, I won’t apply. I’d really like to though.

Hiya! So I (23F) graduated college last year with a BSc in Biopharmaceutical Science. I'm currently working as a QC Microbiologist and I've been here for the last 1.5 years (straight out of college basically). It's a good job and I do like working in micro, I've always had an interest in it, even did my thesis on testing bioburden in pharmaceutical samples. However the pay is not great and over the last year and a half I think I've realised that working in pharma maybe isn't for me.
I would love to study a masters, it's always been the plan to study one but I just don't know what to study it in. I feel like I need to go do something soon because everyone I went to college with is advancing their careers with a masters. My problem is I have so many interests and unfortunately a lot of masters here the career progression usually leads back to pharma and I want to get away from it. I have a lot of interest in health sciences, medical sciences, immunology, microbiology and molecular biology.
Does anyone have any idea or experience in what I can do to advance my career in science or what kind of masters I can do that won't lead me back to pharma, or a more enjoyable aspect of pharma?

Hi all, I am a recent PhD graduate in biomolecular medicine with a major in Immunology research from Italy. I have been searching for a job in the pharma or biotech industry, but unfortunately I have not been successful. I need to understand what are the entry level jobs after PhD or PhD is considered not enough qualified for pharma? Considering I am applying for positions all over Europe. I really appreciate any help you can provide.
