Oh yeah this is going on the playlist FOSHO!
It's exactly this dazed synth jazzy vibe I love in Phantom Siita and this song, as in a means to give you that "ballerina in a box" feel, alongside the choreography it all comes together for that idea neatly
Their acting is on point (big shock amirite), I mean, the first image alone should sell you on that but especially that one scene at the dinner table 😫 them looking at their maker with some sort of inane curiosity like they're strangers to both the concepts of death and affection but still are living through them after his death
I also always like to see how they dress the gore up in shrouds of pretty, it's that interesting kind of tongue-in-cheek visuals that they've mastered at this point.
The melody and singing reminds me of Co Shü Nie, this lingering "stitching" of verses like they're about to run out of air at any second (the breath control required is immaculate btw) but they use their breathing to space out the thoughts of the song...
The story. So good. Even things built to last meet their end, sooner or later. And without their maker, who they deeply miss, his care and devotion, they meet their decay too. If that ain't gothic-ish retro horror at its core I do not know what it is. They always find a new way to grapple with these ideas of love, life and death whether on the psycho or the grieving ends of the spectrum
Not a particular fan of the dresses because I always prefer the intricate designs of Horror Queen, Zoku Zoku and Suki/Kirai rather than the shorty ballerina doll model. Like, Hisui's Suki/Kirai era is as short as I go, but this one serves the theme all too well for me to hold that against the design
Melody: 9/10
Lyrics: 8/10
Costumes: 7/10
Visuals: 9,2/10
Acting: 9/10
Choreo: 7,5/10 (we've seen all too little of it)
No bad thoughts, just a couple of personal taste things, like feeling like it's missing a climax (kinda justified because they kinda just died partway through their lament), but like the rest, nothing I'd really hold against the song.
Anyway, those are my thoughts on Sweet Pea. What are yours?
