Sadness My cat died from a urinary blockage and I feel devastated

I’m so sad right now. My sweet male cat had started struggling to use the litterbox and had a blockage. I took him to the vet to get checked out and he had the blockage removed and was prescribed amoxicillin.

I thought he was on the mend and going to recover but later that day he was blocked up again and passed away suddenly during the night. He wasn’t crying out in pain or yowling or any obvious signs of distress. He was drinking water and eating so his death caught me so off guard and shocked me. He was only 3 years old and I’d had him since he was a kitten.

This is awful. I hate this. Rest in peace little guy

This is a community of support for Pet owners whose Pets have passed away. It is actively moderated.

Pet owners, as loving, caring people, often have strong opinions on pet care practices. Some of these are controversial. This is not a forum for debate on such issues, nor is it a place to scold a contributor for a perceived mistake in managing their pet. We intend to provide a safe haven of understanding and support. Strident, mean-spirited posts or comments will be deleted. Those who persist in preaching versus caring may be warned and then banned or may be banned permanently based on nature of the topic. If a conversational thread meanders into a discussion unrelated to pet loss support, it will be truncated.

Those who post here are vulnerable and hurting. Even a minor slap has a hard sting. Those of us who are lucky enough to be able to turn away from our computers or put down our phones and hug a healthy, happy pet are truly blessed. Threads must remain supportive and caring, even if one disagrees with something that has been said.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your sweet boy. 💔 It's heartbreaking when we think our babies are getting better, only to lose them so suddenly. They are such a big part of our lives, and it's so difficult to accept that they're no longer here.

I also lost my boy recently, and he was only about 1 year 2months old. He had a urinary blockage, and I took him to the clinic almost every day, hoping he would recover. Unfortunately, he passed away on September 30, before a surgery that had been planned for him that morning.

I'm still struggling with grief, guilt, and so many unanswered questions about whether things could have turned out differently if I had made different decisions or chosen another vet.

I understand how shocking and unfair it feels to lose them when all we want is to see them get better and come home to us. I wish we could have saved our boys. I'm so sorry we both have to experience this kind of heartbreak.

Rest in peace to our sweet boys. They deserved so much more time with us. Sending you love and hugs during this incredibly difficult time. ❤️

Thank you for your message 💔 All I can think is “What if” this and “What if” that. Feels awful. My cat was really strong throughout the whole ordeal. So strong that a lot of his symptoms didn’t show up or were hidden until it was too late. He never cried or showed signs of being in severe pain. I initially noticed he kept excessively going to the litterbox and licking himself a lot. Those were really the only warning signs. So many unanswered questions and beating myself up.

I’m sorry you can relate and that you lost your little friend. Rest in peace to our boys 😞
