Meta Breaks, moderation, sobriety...what "this sub is about."

Hey everybody.

Since the New Year and a welcome influx of new members, there has been an uptick in confidently wrong pronouncements of "what this sub is about."

As the lead mod, being confidently wrong is something I reserve only for myself, so I would like to make it clear how we go about choosing content that is inside or outside the rules.

To begin with, I took over the lead mod position four years ago, and I have made exactly one change to the moderation policies in that time, which is to remove posts discussing moderation from people who indicate they are minors. We remove those posts and have a respectful discussion with them about quitting until they are older. If they aren't open to that then we let them participate here as harm reduction, but we owe it to them to talk them through stopping at a young age first.

Again, that's the only change.

Outside of that, I have worked very hard to maintain continuity with the moderation policies that were established from the day of the sub's founding.

Our mission is, to state it as clearly as I can, to help people who are taking a break, figuring out the best way to moderate, or trying to figure out what a healthy relationship with weed looks like for them.

We are not leaves and we are not trees, and we should leave the discussions of quitting for good or smoking without issue completely to them.

But I will say, because this is where most people get it wrong, that contemplating stopping for good, and wanting to talk about it, is part of trying to find a better relationship with smoking.

If you want to smoke and are having problems, and are trying to figure out whether to find a better way or quit completely, then that discussion is fine here. If you then decide to quit for good then we refer you to Leaves.

Relevant to that, there should be absolutely zero "take this to Leaves" or "wtf I'm here because I didn't want to hear this shit" or any variation of those rude BS comments.

If you see something that you don't think should be on the group (like "I'm quitting for good, what's the best way to...") then report it and don't comment. Being rude to other people or trying to be a Petioles mall cop is out of line.

I know people just love when moderators post about the rules, so I suspect I will be greeted as a hero, but if you have any questions I'm happy to answer them if I can, but I am going to filter them before they go up because I'm not an idiot. :-)

Love you all, and I'm happy to have the oppotunity to do my part to help keep this place running.

Discussion Weed is just... Candy. (Bear with me)

(I'm not saying to give it to children or not to be appropriately cautious with it. Please still be responsible with how you treat cannabis.)

I'm just saying that it's literally just candy for adults. It's a sweet treat that just so happens to make you feel funny for a little while.

I fucking love those Goetze's caramel creams. I can't control myself around those, I will inhale the entire goddamn bag in one sitting. Normally I'll just keep them out of the house and only buy them once in a blue moon when I really feel like treating myself. I'm starting to understand that no amount of moderation will work for me long term and I will ALWAYS eventually crack and want to overindulge, so I need to start treating weed the same way I treat those damn caramel creams.

It goes up on the shelf with fancy teas and bath soaps and other creature comforts that make life more pleasant as a whole, and you don't need to do it every single day- it's just a treat after all and too much of ANYTHING is bad for you.

I live in a legal state where I can't throw a rock without hitting like 10 dispensaries. There is no shortage of it and I can just go buy it whenever I want. It's not that exciting "forbidden fruit" that it was when I was a lot younger, it's literally just funny adult candy, and it's not the end of the world if I run out and don't have any for a while.

My wallet will thank me in the long run 😭

Discussion Has anyone previously identified as an addict and were able to change your relationship to weed?

I'm looking to see if I can find people who have successfully gone from harmful and excessive smoking that's hard to stop even though you want to (what would be defined as addiction) to a new healthy and balanced relationship with weed.

I've heard of people who were heavy drinkers before, and really struggled to cut back, but managed to do it and now only drink socially and don't have a problem with it. I assume this might be possible for some people who smoke weed too, but I've never heard of anyone, so I'm not sure.

I wonder if the narrative of "once an addict, always an addict" is true for everyone. There are some vices you couldn't possibly stay 100% away from, or it would at the very least be very hard and limiting to do so (like sex, food, shopping, etc). So people who are addicted to those things often learn to moderate them using sets of rules, contextual changes, professional treatment, etc. Then, they can have a romantic and sexual relationship, eat food or do their groceries in a healthy way. I'm wondering if there is something fundamentally different about psychoactive substances that makes it impossible to treat addiction to them the same way.

Discussion Stepping out of my safe bubble, again

Maybe this is a tad extra, but weed is essentially the only ā€œcompanionā€ that I’ve had with me for the last 20 years. I’ve had long breaks, taking 6 months to a year off at a time to focus and maybe re-evaluate the relationship I have with it. Overall I’ve led a pretty solitary life for as long as I can remember, and cannabis has been my retreat from all the pressures of life. It’s not something I want to stop doing completely, as I’ve been too sad whenever I tried that before.

It’s really been a safe bubble for me at times, because I’m a very expressive, talkative person but also *highly* sensitive. That combination makes life extra hard to get through socially, and weed sort of helped me hide out and focus on necessary tasks, which take me longer to complete than most.

(Sorry, I’m a bit stoned as I write this, forgive any vague rambling)

I know that I can’t do this alone, and as I get older it seems harder to step away from it without asking for a bit of help. I suppose what motivated me this time is that I’m tired of keeping my life so small and tired of hiding out. I know it’s not like that for everybody, but this is how it is for me, and I’d like to be able to put myself out there, talk, express, and be open to receiving both love and criticism without letting it push me back into a corner. For me, this takes immeasurable courage, so I wanted to mark this moment as the start of my next prolonged break.

My last one was 6 months long, so I’d like to go for as long as possible, maybe even a year or years, so I can save some money, time, and energy and put it toward some things I’ve put off for far too long and take care of some personal business.

Discussion Took 10 mg gummies fter 45 days free.

Thought it was 5 mg As I was going to start small but it turned out it was 10mg. Usually gummies never did anything for me but I actually felt it this time around. I've been having really bad cravings lately . I also started a new depression medication that's been kicking my ass with sleep and just makeing me feel awful so I decided to just pop a gummy or else I was going to go ahead and take a couple puffs of my cart that I still have. But that's how it starts just a couple puffs that turns into everyday thing..

Discussion Tolerance break while on vacation is so much easier than any other method

Anybody else feel this? On a trip at the moment for a week and because I’ve broken out of my normal routine, my brain doesn’t get the same cues each day which induce the cravings I feel at home when I smoke routinely. Not only that, but because I’m so busy and so stimulated the entire time, I don’t miss it or think about it really. I’ve noticed a few fleeting thoughts here and there but they just appeared as thoughts but without the craving feeling I usually get with them. Anybody else have similar experiences?

Advice Cannabis use and generalized anxiety disorder

Hi everyone, throwaway account for obvious reasons here.

I've been smoking weed on and off for about 12 years (the first few years were only on vacations or particular celebrative days with friends), and about half a year ago I've started using it quite a bit more than I used to.

I used to smoke about half a 0.3g joint which is a very small amount, and that was basically only on weekends. Now for the past year I've been smoking once or twice a week, the amount is a little higher as I smoke the whole joint but it's still about 0.3g.

With that situation said, I'll now talk about my general health:
For the past couple of years, I've been having physical pain in muscles and joints, mainly my back and hands / wrists, and I've been trying to understand where the hell it's coming** from.
I also had other issues like shallow breaths (sometimes), brain fog, and just a general sense of dread and that everything in the world kind of sucks or is evil.

Went to physicians, physiotherapy and all sorts of stuff but nothing fixed it so my brain of course started monitoring more and more my situation to see if it would worsen or not.
About a year ago, as I've said before, I started using a bit more and it felt less and less exciting than it used to be, while highlighting my issues more and more.

So of course I went to a psychologist (which I already went to before so I knew them), we talked about these things among others that happened in this time period in my life, and we've come to the conclusion that I needed a psychiatrist's consult on this. So I went, and they gave me a medication for generalized anxiety disorder called lyrica (pregabalin), a common SSRI called bupropion, and another one for sleeping, because I told them sleep wasn't restorative anymore.

I've been on these medications for about two months, not much has changed if not that I feel a little bit more flat, I can recognize bad thought patterns (like realizing I'm getting angry at someone for no reason), but I feel like when I'm high things have worsened again.

**Whenever I smoke, my brain starts flipping through toughts, my physical pain seemingly worsens, which triggers my self monitoring, which triggers my anxiety which leads to shallow breaths, palpitations and most if not all that is included under this disorder.

At this point, I don't know if I truly do have a medical condition, if my anxiety started from a panic attack or something else, if it's weed that's causing all of this, or what.

So today I've decided to share my story, hopefully finding someone in a similar situation that has sorted things out, any help is appreciated.

Oh and about two years ago, when all of this started, my thyroid started acting up again (basedow disease, so hyper) and from then I've been taking medication to keep values under control. Some people suggested me to simply remove my thyroid as this is the second episode and it's most likely going to happen again. Just throwing this out there in case it means anything.

TL;DR: I probably have generalized anxiety and don't know if weed makes it worse or not.
Sorry my post isn't really that readable I assume, my attention deficit doesn't allow me to write coherent paragraphs

Discussion Suddenly weed feels uncomfortable

Hi everyone

I've been smoking for 12 years, 9 of those daily.
At first it was recreational, then i began to use it a lot more due to my life going to shit, and i read a lot of scientific researchs about medical cannabis, and due to the fact that i suffered from depression and anxiety.
And so it went, i smoked more and more and more and the last year i must have smoked 100g a month. I'm not okay with it and my bank account isn't either. I used to smoke at night. Then late afternoon. Then i blinked and now i'm high 24/7.
Also lately my psychiatrist added autism and ptsd in my collection of diagnostics, and i know cannabis is widely known to help those specific issues.

But for the 10 last days, it has been non stop over the top anxiety and cannabis does not help and hits me way harder and i feel random bad things that happen when you green out (blood turning to ice, sweating, skin crawling, you know the drill).

I don't want to quit, i don't know how to live without cannabis. Before that i abused alcohol and benzos which are objectively worse, and before even that when i didn't drink or take anything i would self harm, which is objectively worse too.

My mind is a box of racing thoughts, feedback loops that drains all my brain energy and channels it into ruminations, reliving trauma and abuse, self hatred and everything. Weed used to really slow me down and allow me to not be a constant emotional wreck.
In the morning i'll go buy some CBD and mix it 50/50 to see if it helps and i hope it does.

I'm sorry for the long text, truthfully i'm scared, i would like to know if anyone of you experienced something of the sort and how to help it.
Thank you.

Discussion Going from traditional smoking to dry herb vaping after a period of abstinence?

Is there anyone on here who primarily smoked cannabis for multiple years, took a fairly long break, and then started only dry herb vaping flower. If so could you share what differences you noticed?

Wonder if it’s less addicting, possibly more medicinal rather than recreational use, and did it have any affect on levels of brain fog or waking up feeling very groggy? Basically does dry herb vaping diminish the negative effects that often come with the combustion route?

Discussion can u help a brotha out

i started smoking when i was 13, 8.5 years ago now. since 16 years old, i have not had a day without smoking. i now go through about 5-10 joints a day, smoking them from when i wake up to when i go sleep.

i can’t keep this up.

i have no confidence, i weigh 180lbs at 6’7, i can’t make friends, and my therapist thinks i’m crazy (maybe unrelated).
what do i do? every time i try quit i feel like i’m going insane by the end of day one and i fold. i don’t know what my personality is because i’ve never been a sober adult. are there medicines that can help? is it rehab for me? i’ve been for other things but my weed use never felt like the problem back then but it definitely feels like it now.

tl:dr how do you quit when you don’t know who the man without the weed is?

Discussion Is my T-break worth it? How much more up can I go?

I’ve been a consistent daily toker and smoker the last four or five years or so. Started out with maybe evening puffs on a joint or a couple tokes, and maybe it went a little up and down from that depending on the time of year (winter or not) but I’d say it was a slow increase in consumption amount . But then, had a working term out in BC for the last year and well you could say I enjoyed the farm grown BC bud, a lot. I probably went from maybe smoking a half a gram at Max to buy the end of that working term I was smoking at least 3 grams daily. I’m trying to finish up my degree now and I made the decision that since I was basically smoking to smoke and wanted to get high again I took a t break. In late August. Here I am a month and a half later and honestly I’ve been feeling pretty elite my brain works better than I thought it ever did work, but maybe I’m just hitting the point of the t break where it’s almost like I’m getting used to this feeling of not being high and the craving has been definitely creeping on me. Imagining how zonked I get if I took a fat toke or ripped a nice joint is so killer 🤣. Actually this past weekend I had a point where I was so close to Downing a 10 mg drink but I just couldn’t do it because I felt like I had made progress and I’d be throwing that away. Maybe that was my ultimate sign.

Can someone maybe give me the details and timeline of THC in your system and when it’s fully out or sort of how that whole process works from here on out because other than I guess craving it things have been feeling pretty flatline and not like they’re getting better from here, but I’m just I guess interested in the whole process so geek me out.

Discussion Relapse shame and guilt

I have CHS and have known it for a while. I stopped smoking regularly, but have still hit a coworkers dab pen maybe once a week occasionally. Yesterday, I don’t fucking know why, I bought a preroll. This morning I woke up with the nausea and stomach pains. I’m terrified of a full blown episode again.

Going to start going to cannabis anonymous or NA because I need to really stop, I have such a psychological dependency it’s awful.

More than anything, I’m so traumatized by these episodes. I think the anxiety of having a full episode is contributing to my nausea too.

I just feel so shitty about myself and my stupid lack of self control. I truly don’t know why i relapsed and I really hate myself for it right now

Advice How to stop smoking all day

If I wake up at 5am I'll smoke and that makes me sleep so much later, and then I smoke right when I wake up and throughout the day. I'm not even getting high anymore, not sure why I'm still addicted to smoking without the high. I want to just get to a point of only smoking at night but I can't seem to kick this habit. Any tips?

Discussion Therapist that smokes more than any client

I’m a therapist that has normalized my weed dependence for a decade. I’ve been a daily user for a decade. Longest I’ve gone without is 2 weeks while on vacations. I’ve had clients express concern about how they smoke a few times a week. I’m embarrassed. I’m also a recovered alcoholic that drinks socially now. When I’ve gone without weed I tend to lean on alcohol and this is something I’m afraid of. Ive spent my whole adulthood identifying as a stoner which feels so lame. There’s so many other more interesting things I’d rather be known for. I’m also afraid of what’s underneath this thc dependence… my entire adulthood it’s been in my system… it’s terrifying. My husband consumes more than I do and wants to quit together so it’s really happening this time. Last night we smoked for the last time and were doing edibles until the end of the month to ween off. I need to get a therapist for myself man oof.

Discussion Smoked some weed after over 4 months abstinence. I don't regret it because it taught me a lot.

I had been on a 133 day sobriety streak but kept thinking about weed and I guess I eventually got frustrated and caved in. The experience was honestly underwhelming and there was a lot about it I didn't like, although I did note what I DID like about the experience. Since the time I had initially decided to quit, I have also gotten diagnosed with sleep apnea and started using a CPAP machine and I kind of understand why I turned to it when I was experiencing what I now realize was pretty debilitating long-term fatigue. But daily use no longer seems to match what I want for myself and my life and yesterday really solidified this for me. I was on the full abstinence train but now I am giving myself space to fully solidify what my next steps are, since weed did have legitimate medical use for me in the past in terms of various forms of pain relief and I may benefit from low doses of it for very specific circumstances. But I am sitting on this choice and looking at alternatives to Marijuana Anonymous for addiction recovery and for setting new goals for myself. Thanks for this channel and giving me a space to share when I am at the "train station" contemplating whether I want to get back on the train. Have a good day y'all :)

Discussion New set of rules

I'm posting this as a way of making it feel more real and keep myself accountable. I stayed sober for 134 out of the past 140 days and I found out some things about how I do and don't like smoking weed. Giving moderation another try now, I'm going to try going by the following set of rules for my weed consumption:

1. Never solo: Smoking alone is a trap for me, specially inside my own house. I don't like how it makes me feel and how it affects my life. I get way too complacent, lazy and obsessive with it. It quickly becomes a daily habit and hinders my ability to do anything else. So I'm prohibiting myself from doing it entirely. What I missed the most while I was sober was smoking with other people anyway.

2. No stash: Keeping weed in my house is simply way too much temptation to deal with. I get constant impulses to use it when it's right there, too readily available. My mind feels more at peace when I just don't have it with me. So I will only ever have what I'm using in that moment, and if it needs to be stored for a later time, it will remain with my partner or friends.

3. Weekends and holidays only: No "special occasions" during the week. No "just this time to wind down". No exceptions. If I have a birthday to go to on a Wednesday, I can very well go sober. Business days are for taking care of my life priorities and myself. I need my mind clear and sharp in order to build a life I'm proud of living.

4. Never when hanging out with friends unless it's planned: If I'm going out with friends and the plan is specifically to smoke and do something silly together, that's okay. But if I'm just going out with friends, period, I'm not going to smoke. I'm way better at socializing when I'm sober, and I want to actually be able to keep a conversation and remember what's going on in my friends' lives. I'm a better friend when I'm sober and I want my friends to have that version of me. I also enjoy other people's company way more when I'm clear-headed and present for it.

5. Late afternoon and night only (or after 4:20pm for reference): No wake and bakes. When I get high too early in the day, I spend the whole day in a haze, trying to get that high up again because I'm coming down in the middle of the day. It's not pleasant. There's no reason to do it. Better to just live through my day and get high when I know I'll be coming down right when it's time to call it a day.

6. Never if I'll have to hide it: There is simply no reason to smoke if I'll have to hide the fact that I'm high. So if I'm gonna be with my family, around kids, need to drive, or have to do anything important at all, I just won't smoke.

7. Never if I'm already going to do something awesome: If I'm going to a cool park, a museum, watching a cool movie, playing a cool game, going somewhere new, going out to exercise or trying a new activity, why should I smoke? I've discovered that I enjoy new, beautiful and exciting experiences way more when I'm sober. I get to feel more connected to nature, art and novelty when I'm experiencing it raw. Weed does not enhance everything as I once thought it did, it only blends it all together with its own flavor (in my experience). So I'd rather have all the different tastes of different experiences, and not make it all taste like being high.

8. Never let myself go because of it: I'm not allowed to smoke instead of doing things that are important to me. I'm not allowed to skip exercise to smoke. I'm not allowed to skip class or work to smoke. I'm not allowed to skip a meal to smoke. I'm not allowed to skip appointments to smoke. I'm not allowed to skip doing chores to smoke. I'm not allowed to skip socializing to smoke. Smoking comes after all of that, never before or instead.

9. That leaves me with the situations when I actually want to smoke - with my partner or friends, purposefully, in order to experience the high, do silly stuff together and eat some delicious food. Weed is great for me when I'm watching a stupid movie, a silly show, some crazy videos, playing a dumb video game or talking nonsense with friends and/or my boyfriend. Smoke weed - be silly - have some munchies-fueled ice cream - go to sleep - wake up sober and go live my life. That's where I want weed to be.

I will update here soon to tell you all how it's going!

This week in particular I don't see a reason why I would smoke, because on Friday I'm going to my mom's and I'll be back home by Wednesday next week. Should maybe only smoke on the weekend after the next then, if the right situation for it arises.

Stay healthy guys, you got this! Let's make this plant a detail and not the base of our lives!

Advice Does anyone else prepack bowls to help with moderation?

The basics, 46M, been smoking for about 8 years, the last three with a DHV. I have a Venty and use the dosing capsules for easy cleanup. I also add in CBD flower to counteract the THC a bit. I’m currently taking a T break and am on day 7. I have generally been able to taper myself down to a couple of bowls a day but want to get lower, that’s the reason for the T break. I travel for work and stay in a hotel 3-4 nights per month; and that’s where I want to contain my intake to. Has anyone else tried to prepack a few bowls to restrict yourself from overdoing it? It seems like a good idea but I’m not sure if it will be enough.

Discussion Giving moderation another try?

I was an avid user for 8 years between 18 and 26 years old.

In the beginning of 2025, I did a 6ish month break for the first time and it was great for me. I got to study more, focus on my routine, saved some money and time, felt more clear headed. I ended up getting back to heavy use by the end of the year, though. At the beginning of this year, I did a one month break or so, but then continued to use too much.

I decided to quit in July and successfully did 10 days sober, then smoked for 2 days, did 90 days sober, smoked for 1 day, did 35 days sober and then smoked for 3 days (until yesterday). It's Thursday now and I'm sober again today.

I'm thinking about giving moderation another try, but I'm scared I'll just go back to unhealthy use. I already feel like I used a little bit too much this weekend, because there were times I thought "I don't really wanna smoke today/right now" but then I did, and kept doing it even if it didn't feel that good.

My main issue is I'm afraid I'll just end up replacing things with weed again.

When I'm sober, I feel like I can do way more stuff, not just productively, but leisurely as well. I found out I prefer being around friends sober rather than high, because that way I can actually keep a conversation going and remember what we talked about. I like playing board games and video games with other people when I'm sober, because I'm better at it and can enjoy it more. I like spending time with my partner sober because I feel like we try more new stuff, we're not as lazy, and we connect more. I prefer to be sober to study because I can actually keep a train of thought. I prefer to watch movies and shows sober because I can understand and remember them better. I prefer to be sober in nature and while interacting with art because I feel like I can be more present. I like to take psychedelics without smoking weed too, because I feel like the experience is clearer. I don't want to use weed to deal with anxiety, depression and stress because I want to develop and strengthen other more reliable and healthier skills to do so. I prefer to spend most of my time sober, in general, because I feel like I'm my best version that way.

What I do like smoking weed for is doing silly stuff. Watching a nonsense movie or show, playing a silly video game or just goofing around are all activities I like doing when I'm high. I also love having some very tasty food when I'm at it. And I mainly like doing it with my partner and, sometimes, with friends. I feel great satisfaction when I do it alone too, but I don't think being high alone is good for me, because it's too difficult to regulate.

I think my biggest problem is, if weed is available, I have a hard time turning it down even if I don't want it. If I have it in my house and I'm alone with it, it feels like it's haunting me and I get impulses to smoke it all the time. If it is available when I'm with people, I find myself going for it even though I'm doing one of the activities I mentioned before and I know I'm gonna have a nicer time if I just stay sober.

I really want to be able to just use it once in a while when I want to have a silly fun time and eat some delicious ice cream with my partner or a couple of friends. How do I change that all-or-nothing relationship I have with the plant?

My boyfriend told me he thinks I need to make changes to my life and my context in order to feel differently about the drug, not necessarily the other way around. I currently don't like the house I live in and I'm tired of living alone. When I'm there, I feel overwhelmed, lonely, tired and depressed. My partner and I are working on moving in together, but there's still a ways to go before we'll be able to do it, so I have to bare with my situation until then. I'm autistic and I struggle with executive dysfunction, so I often have way too hard of a time cleaning, cooking, studying, working, and keeping any routine consistently. So it's safe to say I don't feel good about a huge part of my life, and it makes sense how I'd be vulnerable to seeking weed as a main source of satisfaction, pleasure and relief.

I'm trying to be more physically active, and I've been successful at it so far. I got a climbing buddy and a gym buddy and we go consistently through the week. My biggest issues are motivation to get out of the house (even though I don't like being in my house, go figure) and staying consistent on it, and having other people to keep me accountable and provide me support and company while exercising is huge!

I'm also on therapy and on medical treatment, of course. I'm waiting for a psychiatrist's appointment to make adjustments to my medication because I feel like I'm taking too many meds and it's weighting on me financially without that much benefit. I've also been trying to practice more meditation and take time to have a sleep routine and rest properly.

As of today, I've started coming to my university's library to study and work instead of staying home. I hope it will help me stay focused and avoid distractions (like video games and youtube) since I'm not in my usual environment. I also hope it will help me eat more mindfully and healthily, because I'll be having lunch at my campus restaurant and I won't be snacking all the time since the library doesn't allow food inside. I think it might help me keep things separate too, so that when I'm here (in my study/work setting) I can focus entirely on work, and when I'm home I can focus on resting, enjoying my free time, taking care of my house and myself. I hope I'll feel less lonely throughout the week this way too.

I think those changes have a potential to make my life more meaningful and fulfilling for me, and make me crave the comfort of weed much less.

I'd like to hear about some of other people's strategies too. How do you go about smoking only when you truly want to, and not giving in every time it's available as if it's free money? Have you developed a set of rules you follow strictly? Do you have a strategy to figure out if it's a good time to smoke in every moment of decision? Do you just make it not available when you don't want to smoke?

When I was trying to quit for good, I was able to be around weed and turn it down. But I haven't yet developed the ability to tell myself "not now". It's either "yes always" or "no never". That's what I really want to change. Appreciate all the help and thanks for listening <3

Hello im about to be 18 and ive been smoking since I was 15 with no breaks daily. I’ve noticed a difference with how I felt about a year ago. But I didn't stop. I feel insanely paranoid, scared and everyone is out to get me. For my 18th birthday my goal is to take a year long t-break. Im wondering if i should ever come back to plant or quit for good. Im 3 days in, it fucking sucks. Im open to any criticism and suggestions.

Discussion Successfully cutting back so far

It’s almost been a week since I started smoking only after 10pm, allowing myself to hit a roach at 4pm or 5pm on some days. I was smoking spliffs all day everyday, and I would put the roaches in my bong to finish them off or just straight up smoke a spliff out my bong sometimes. I would wake up, smoke two spliffs cause one was never enough, and continue that probably every 2-4 hours.

I ended up in a forced cold turkey due to circumstances I could not control, but I didn’t want to go back to running through a 3.5 every 2 days, my wallet was truly suffering. Since smoking only at night, I’ve noticed the introspection I loved about weed so much returning. My highs actually feel like something now, which I’m enjoying. The days are a little bit hard to get through because I have a nicotine dependency, but I’m on pysch meds, and I refuse to hit nicotine outside a spliff since nicotine itself already fucks with the absorption of my meds. I’ll typically just sit in my car, read, or fuck around on my phone and cravings settle down.

I feel much more confident about myself but I know I could slip back into chronic use if I don’t rebuild a strong sense of discipline. Matter of fact, I want to smoke right now. I haven’t eaten all day and typically use to just smoke whenever I did get hungry to kill my appetite, so I know thats why I’m having cravings. Yet, after I post this I’m going to eat instead! Hooray, wish me luck friends.

Discussion Oof - just learned 3 lessons after almost a year clear

Quick background - I’ve been nightly smoker for years, quit, then come back, did everything in between too - once a weekend, 1 week breaks every month, etc. Like each part of that I’ve done x4 or x5 times.

But it all changed for me last March. I stopped after probably my heaviest usage ever - using my classic taper-down method with the THC drinks - and for a month straight I didn’t just have the usual intense dreams (I’m no stranger) I had straight up spiritual visionary dreams that changed me, and got me into Sufi spiritual practices.

For the last 9 months or so, not only didn’t I touch weed, I had zero desire too - it seemed like something I did because I hadn’t found the real thing (a spirituality that resonated) but now that I had… why would I?

Ok. So I start skipping my practices after some tough times… that leads me to feeling really dry. So let’s trip with mushrooms, right? Easiest way to get the magic back.

LESSON #1: Psychedelics make it easier to start bad habits again too. Don’t get me wrong, they’ve changed my life in lots of good ways too but that plasticity can also lead you to try things you shouldn’t. This time, even though the mushrooms straight up told me ā€œdon’t get back into cannabisā€ during my trip, in the looseness of the following weeks the idea grew and grew and grew… why not have 1 fun night? ā€œWhere’s the harm?ā€

So I pulled out the old drop herb vape and had some fun, thinking ā€œI’m glad I didn’t throw this out!ā€ā€¦

LESSON #2: There is no ā€œ1 night onlyā€ for me, even with this supposedly solid spiritual foundation. 1 night turned into a second night, into. 3rd etc… and I had a solid week of it.

LESSON #3: It only takes 1 week to fuck myself back up again. OK so I pulled myself out of it (Im on Day 3 now). And even though it was only 1 week… super tough sleeps, sadness, irritability, cravings, restlessness… as bad as if I had been going for months. I think tonight will be better, so it will pass more quickly, but still - my body has zero chill and will immediately assume we’re back in THc land,

Friends, for me I think this is the end. What a brutal reminder that I just can’t fuck around with this stuff. It takes over.

Other people are different, I’m not saying you’ll be the same, but these lessons were another wake-up call to me.

81 days with heightened withdrawals still

Post image

Been a smoker for 8 years since 25 and smoked every night just to sleep then started creeping to earlier in the night like 6pm then just last year started doing it during the day (I work remotely most of the month) then starting doing it while getting facials then at the gym then when I get massages then when I go out etc etc it really creeps up and takes your whole life. I smoked a bowl and did about 2-4 bowls a day (idk how much that is but assuming more than average for sure… I smoked quite a lot and was known as a stoner among friends) I then went to Japan recently and totally was depressed and anxious the full 3 weeks due to weed withdrawals… that’s when I knew I had to decide between smoking and traveling / having kids eventually . Had to make the hard decision and started tapering since Feb using Venty vape and 95% thc and 5% cbd, reducing thc and increasing cbd by 5% every 2 weeks until I got off on July 21st to 100% cbd.

81 days but still having insanely vivid dreams, feel like I’ve barely slept, everything feel flat or useless, lower energy, brain fog, and worst of all heightened anxiety out of nowhere.

I can deal with the dreams and coffee helps a bit with the brain fog… still not great and I work an intense corporate job that has definitely noticed. But the anxiety is insane, feel it through my chest to my feet.

I keep searching for posts on here or PAWS or leaves for people who are at 60/90 days to see if this is normal but more importantly.., when will it stop and how can I minimize it? I have super intense corporate job that also requires me to travel monthly so every little mistake I make, makes me feel so stupid or anxious and I can’t keep up like I used to. It’s high stakes sort of job.

I have a therapist and psychiatrist and take buspirone but can’t increase dosage until things calm down since temporarily I get more anxious when I increase dosage and I can’t handle that now.

Got hydroxyzine for short team in the moment issues and it helps most of the time but sometimes it’s just not strong enough. I’m smoking CBD to deal with it for now but need to stop that as well…. Eventually. I also meditate daily - or at least few times a week - and I do Pilates 2/3 times a week and go for a week 2/3 times a week. TBH I’m eating a lot of sweets and chocolates since it helps with feeling depressed or anxious.

Need some insights on this since in PAWS some folks still had issues for even a year and idk that sounds awful, really awful. Needed to stop since we are trying to get pregnant but we haven’t been able to conceive in a few months so I keep getting that little voice that wants me to smoke just once but based on what I’ve seen here I can’t do that or else I’ll fall back in.

Regardless, super happy to have found this group since reading the chats when I get anxious and seeing people who made it to the other side is the only way I’m pushing through. Okay rant is done.

Discussion 14 days free - negative thought cycles has stopped

I love when people share their insights from quitting so here’s a big one for me…

When I’m high a negative voice is there, that isn’t there when I’m sober. When I look in the mirror I see my flaws. When I’m around people I put myself down and become uncomfortable in my social abilities. When I’m getting dressed I can’t seem to find something I look good in.

Since quitting I like who I see in the mirror. Yesterday I saw my reflection and felt beautiful - without makeup. I haven’t felt that in a long time.

Even when I’m not high, I smoke often enough that these negative thoughts tend to overtake my opinions of myself. Being free of these negative thought cycles has started changing how I feel about me.

Another one is the ā€œI’ll do it later // I don’t want to :(ā€œ thoughts when I need to do something has also significantly quieted since quitting. Getting things done has been so much easier…
